[00:00:41] Speaker A: What it looked like, Would it be like what it do, baby? Back in here, another episode of the bad podcast. Brad and the Wayne in here, man. Super excited to bring you another episode, man. And, man, Brad, we just getting over a holiday and officially when this drops, and then we're talking about, you know, decisions, man. So I know it ties hand in hand, but before we jump into that, I have to shout out colleen Herbert again. Yeah, 3484 for saying woohoo. Can't wait for my first meetup. So make sure you make your way to us and. And. And holla at us, let us know who you are and. And we're excited for your first meetup. You're gonna love it. Bring everybody you know, tell them to jump in the car, carpool over. It's gonna be a great time, man. So, Brad, I'm sure you want to mention something about that before we jump in. [00:01:33] Speaker B: Yeah, I got two mentions. So the first one I want to shout out Leyland Pitts. She won. She won the book of the month in June. Guys, we're doing the same thing for July. So all you got to do is send me a screenshot. Contact eagertorun.com and that's the number two. So Leyland won the. The June book giveaway. And I. I am. I'm gonna throw this out here right now. And I just made a post recently, for every. For every three books that I sell, I actually give one away. So for every three I sell, I give one away to somebody that I see in my personal life that's in need or somebody that I see from a distance that's in need. And the reason that I do that isn't for the cloud or anything like that or the attention. It's merely to help. And that's. That's the absolute bottom line why I wrote this book. So shout out to Leland. She's the. The giveaway prize winner of June. All you got to do is take a screenshot of you listening to the podcast, send it to contact Eager to run dot com. It's right below there in the red, and just shoot me an email with, you know, the proof that you Listening to the pod and, and tell us what you think. You know, be honest, be transparent. Like, that's the only way Dwayne and I grow. We want to know the, the feedback, positive and negative. It's just like, you know, we're going to talk about decisions today, and I will. I will talk about step jamming in a minute, but we're going to talk about decisions today. And in your life, you're going to have two types of people, right? You have enablers and you have accountability, folks. So those enablers, those enablers are going to tell you what you want to hear. Those enablers are going to tell you, yeah, yeah, eat the cookies, eat the cake, eat the sweets, eat the salt. You know, that's what the enablers are going to do. The enablers are going to tell you the sweet nothings that you want to hear, but the enablers are not going to promote you or help you progress in life. But those accountability partners, they're going to slice and dice you. They're going to tell you things that you don't want to hear. They're going to tell you the hard truth. And that's what we need right now, folks. We want to. We want to hear the hard truth. We want to hear, hey, you got to get better in this area. We want to see you improve in this area. We want to hear about this topic. Like, we want to hear what you want to hear or what you want to listen to on our podcast. So positive and negative feedback. Step Jam north, folks. We'll be in Sewell, New Jersey, July 19, and we are amped about the opportunity. Of course. We have the. The run walk to kick off the day. We have, you know, a stretch and then the run walk, and then we're going to do the celebration, the workout. We're gonna have refreshments. It's going to be a celebration. It's gonna be a party. Make sure you bring your super soakers, your short, Your squirt guns. Make sure you bring the good vibes. We're amped about Sewell because this is a place that, you know, it's a. It's a second home to all of us. E2M folks, because. Because that, that, that New Jersey group, man, they. They know how to bring. They know how to bring the good vibes, D. They. [00:04:14] Speaker A: They know. They know how to do it. Yeah. Yeah. No, I mean, you know, I. I missed the very first New Jersey joint. Like, I wasn't. I wasn't on the team yet, and I couldn't convince my wife to let me go. But, you know, I almost, like, vow to never miss another one because every time, man, it's just a. It's an amazing event, man. So we're excited. I got my whole crew with me. We're making a whole weekend out of it, so. [00:04:40] Speaker B: Anniversary. [00:04:41] Speaker A: Yeah, man. Yeah, man. We even got inbox about the chicken and waffles already, so. Yeah, yeah. Maria said, hey, she could bring. She knew a spot. She bringing them Friday night at this shout out to Maria already lining up for the chicken and waffle fiasco. So we're gonna. We're gonna make it a thing, man. [00:05:06] Speaker B: So that's enabler. Enabler. I'm enabling this enabler. Gotta make good decisions. Yeah, yeah. Well, you know, the quote that I had had right in the beginning of the podcast didn't really align with the decisions, but it did at the same time. So this is like twofold. To dream, we must first decide, like, if you want to have a big dream, you want to. You have big aspirations and big goals in your life, you got to first cultivate the ability to make conscious decisions that align with your goals and not align with what feels convenient or what feels, you know, good. And, you know, those. Those things that seduce you in the moment, like, you can't be saying yes to those things just because they feel good. Like, cutting corn feels good. Cheating feels good. Like, all these things feel good in the moment. But you, you know, I. I always use the 3, 6, 9 rule, and I think we even talked about it last podcast. Like, take yourself out of the body, right? Put yourself three, six, nine weeks, three, six, nine months, years down the road and look back upon yourself. Would this decision align with who you want to be in three, six, nine weeks, months, years? And the. If the answer is yes, keep doing that thing. If, if the answer is not, then you got to realign. And that's the ultimate key to creating the life that you want. You have dreams, you have aspirations, like cultivating the ability to make those conscious decisions when the, when the moment doesn't align with. With what you want to accomplish. Like, that's. That's. That's the. That's the secret sauce right there. In. In, in, in. Cap. Capturing what you want. [00:06:31] Speaker A: Yeah, no, for sure. It's, you know, it's. It's really the. The line in the sand. If you think about it, you know, how you respond to whatever it is, whether it's a win or a loss or it's a disappointment or a happy moment, like how you respond in. In Those moments pretty much decide, you know, the trajectory of, you know, in your life, you know, whether it's fitness or whatever. And this is a huge part of that because, you know, you can decide to take your foot off the gas, you can decide to put up on the coffee table, like, you know, all of those, all of those things, or you can decide to keep grinding. You can decide to, you can decide that, hey, that was good, but it's not enough, you know, and so it really boils down to, you know, how you respond to those moments and then the decision you make. And, you know, a lot of people don't bring this up. At least people that I know that they're. You can make a bad decision. And I call it, you know, I call it the gps, man, the re. The re. The reroute and redirect. You make a wrong turn, I mean, it's not the end of the world in most cases. You know, in most cases, you can, you can re. Redirect, you can reroute, you know, you can hit, you know, what is it? Two, two lefts and you're back on, you know, back on the register. No. Yeah. And that, that's what I, I. And, and, you know, I think a lot of people are, they get frozen by making a decision and making their own decision, and they don't do anything as opposed to being willing to make a decision, you know, find out, okay, this was good or this was bad, and then adjust from there, man. So, yeah, we can go in so many directions with this, man. But definitely, you know, I definitely think it's a good topic. [00:08:20] Speaker B: Yeah, well, we place so much emphasis on making the right decision instead of making the decision and making it right. I've always said that, like, you, you have to make a decision like, like, okay, bench press, push ups. Bench press push ups. What does that lead to in action? Like, you're, you're wondering which is going to be better. Just decide, right? Just make the decision and say, I'm, I'm gonna do this, and I'm gonna make that the right decision. And you go right back to your gps talk. Like, if you, okay, so you miss a right turn, what's it gonna say? Hey, next right turn, you got to make a right turn. The only way you're gonna get lost is if you continue to ignore the gps. Like your navigational compass is going to point you in the right direction. You got, it's, it's in your lap to make that decision. I have a funny story. So this is a couple months ago. And this was a viral thing that went on, on social media. You place some candy in front of your kids and you're like, touch, don't touch. And you walk away and see what happens. So what I did with my kids is I put a piece of candy in front of both of them. My wife and I did. Adrian and I did. And we said, hey, listen, if you don't touch this, we will give you more candy when we come back. But don't touch. Now, my, My older son, he's. He's a rule follower through and through. Beckett is a rule follower, like to the T. Now, Rushy, on the other hand, he's a bear. He's. He's a grizzly bear some days a polar bear, the other days he's. He's a bear. So as soon as we walk out the room, Rush, you looks at Beckett, he looks at the candy, looks back at Beckett, looks down at the candy snatch, and Becca goes, no, no, no. We get more candy if we don't touch it. But temptation sometimes is uncontrollable with kids. They don't. A lot of them, Becca does. But a lot of kids don't know the difference between temptation and long term results. Adults, grown folks like you and me, sometimes we got to make the big boy decision. Sometimes we got to make the hard decision to say no to that one piece of candy, because we know that 10 pieces of candy are right on the other side of that one. No. Now, as adults, we have to understand the difference. Do you want to feel good right now or do you want results? Like, plain and simple? [00:10:25] Speaker A: Yep. [00:10:25] Speaker B: Do you want to feel good or you want results long term? [00:10:28] Speaker A: Sometimes you want to feel good. [00:10:32] Speaker B: Sometimes. [00:10:33] Speaker A: You want to feel good. [00:10:34] Speaker B: We always want to feel good. We always do. I was just listening to the Secret to Success podcast, and they were talking about this exact topic, and Jamal said something like, what do you say? He said, God chose to make broccoli taste like broccoli, and he chose Krispy Kreme donuts to taste like Krispy Kreme donuts. He could have reversed the effect. He. God could have said, I want broccoli to taste like Krispy Kreme donuts, but it's broccoli that gets you the results. And it's boring. And it's the, it's the monotonous daily tasks that we do that are boring. And, and nobody wants to do it. And it's mundane and it's, it's. It's cyclical, but we know what it takes to get to the top and we know what it takes. It's going to be boring, it's going to be bland, but you gotta, you got to make those decisions daily. [00:11:21] Speaker A: Now I'm just thinking about broccoli flavored. [00:11:24] Speaker B: Krispy Kreme, but you know what I'm saying? And, and it was like he hit the. I was listening to that. [00:11:31] Speaker A: I'm like, I, I had to pause for a minute. [00:11:34] Speaker B: Yeah, everybody be rocking broccoli. [00:11:37] Speaker A: I didn't. [00:11:38] Speaker B: You. Because the masses of society are going to choose what, what, whichever tastes better, whichever makes you feel better in the moment. And it's, it's, you know, it's that dopamine effect. You know, you, you get on social media, you, you know, you engage in television programs and different things just because you want to, you want that spike. And everybody's in, in pursuit of that spike. I want to feel that's why, that's why so many people lose weight and they can't keep it off because they want to get to that finish line as fast as they possibly can. And they spike, right? And they have all the motivation. But motivation is not going to get you there. It's not going to sustain. It's not. That's one of my favorite words because that's the, that's the, that's the, the trigger word here in E2M. Is that really sustainable? Yeah, anything sustainable if you make it. But when people spike and they, and they run out of the gates as fast as they possibly can. No, you're not going to sustain it because you're in it for the wrong reasons. You got it? You got to fall in love with the process and not the finish line. [00:12:36] Speaker A: Facts. Facts. Yeah, no, you know, and it's a funny thing, the, the, the, I guess pursuing that gratification, you know, that early quick gratification, that's the thing. And then, you know, because I even, I even deal with this personal. Like if you are in a tough situation for some reason, I don't know if it's just me, but food just, it's, it's a comforter, man. Like, I, like, listen, like I'm, I'm being real transparent, man. You know, if, if I, if, if there's a jam going on in my head and you know, it, it is way easier to, to go to which I don't understand it. Like, I don't understand the, the mechanics of it or the, the physics of it or why it even, why it's even the thing, but it is really a thing, man. And so I, I. You're not talking to people that don't know what you're going through when it comes to that. When we're telling you about making a decision and, you know, doing the mundane, you know, these are, these are conscious efforts, like, it, It's a, It's a battle. There's two packs of Oreos in. In the kitchen right now. There's. There's a. The gold pack and then the birthday cake cream. [00:13:50] Speaker B: I never even heard of those ones. [00:13:53] Speaker A: Both of them in there right now, man. And, you know, I got back from the studio yesterday. I, I had, I had. Yeah, yeah. You know, but the decision and the discipline comes is not clearing out a whole sleeve, you know, that's, that's, that's the difference. You know, my man Kevin on stage, he's a comedian and a good friend of mine, he was talking about his trainer. He says, my trainer said I could have Oreos. He's like, all right, man, how many Oreos? Like, you know, you get the serving side. He's okay, let me see what the servici is too. He was like, what human can eat two Oreos? He was like, I go in with the claw. Like, you can't. You gotta watch YouTube. He said, I go in with the claw. Like, you know, and he's like, two is what you eat on the way to the couch. He was like, and your goal is not to clear out a sleeve, man, when I tell you, that resonated with me because that. You go in with the claw, man, you at least five or six, man. But, yeah, I said all that. And I know I'm gonna get teased on Oreos, but. But it's. It's decision, man. Like, it's, it's, it's being able to be, you know, mental fortitude, but it don't come overnight, so don't. This. That's what I don't want, bro. I don't want people to beat themselves up when they can't. Because, listen, there's plenty of times I lost that battle. I think even one time, man, you was texting, and I was like, yeah, Brad, I just smashed out, like, you know, like, it's plen plenty of times. But the difference. And it goes back to the, the redirect when you turn on that wrong road and you make. Make a couple more turns, get back on track, man, because, you know, you don't have to stay there in that, that state of mind. Right? [00:15:34] Speaker B: Well, just to get scientific, you know, when you're stressed out. Yeah, yeah. When you get Stressed out. It releases cortisol through your body. And what cortisol does is it triggers that, that appetite, it triggers that, you know, that hunger. And, and right away, like I, I do the same thing when I'm, when I'm sitting. Back in the old days when we did the, every eight weeks we had to do sign ups. Every eight weeks, dude. You know, you remember, every eight weeks I would, I would regress, I would regress for, for three, three to seven days because it was a grind and it was a high stressed, high tension situation and circumstance where, you know, we'd be grinding for 12, 14 hours a day. And what I would do is I'm a savory guy, man. I, I'd go after, you know, I go after the Doritos. You know, I, I like the Doritos. So, you know, I'm all about the savory stuff. But yeah, just to speak to what you're saying, man, you know. Yeah, yeah, yeah. The claw. I like the claw. I like the claw concept because the claw is something that you have control over. Like, yeah, how many times you go real why with the clock. But that's in your control, right? That's, that's your goal. And you know, it all boils down to how you think and even how you speak about the claw. Like, okay, I, I, I can go in with the two. Boy, I go in with the two and I, you know, and, but it's just reframing that mindset and, and you know, making that, that tough decision. Like, okay, I, I know I want four. I know I want the extra big claw today. I got big hands, man. I got 16, 16 Oreos in there. But you know, just reframing, you know, the acceptable thing. Like, yeah, again, you go back to my kids, like, they, they don't understand why they got to limit the cloth. What, why do I only have to go for one piece of candy when I can have unlimited candy? Well, because I, I create the rules. This is my home. But they, they, they just don't even understand that there's, there's bigger prizes and bigger rewards if you have that, if you have that mindset of delayed gratification. And I think that's, that's, that's like, I don't know, it's a, it's like a, it's like a gem. It's like a, it's like a, it's like a treasure that, that, that many can't get there. Like, we just can't get there. Because I, I think, man, I I'm big on this. I. I think it's all about who you surround yourself with. We've talked about this a million times. I really do. Like, you know, when. When you go to that next level, you go to that next room, and it is so extremely uncomfortable because people are smarter than you, people are stronger than you, people are faster than you. What. What's normal is I want to go right back to the room that I was the strongest, I was the smartest, I was the fastest. And. And then those people, they're the ones that. That also don't understand delayed gratification. And then all of a sudden, it's. It's. It's ingrained in you. Act, speak, decide, like everybody else around you. So I. I think everything boils down to. To who you surround yourself with. So get around people that are accepting delayed gratification. [00:18:37] Speaker A: No, absolutely. And so here. Here's the option, because I can almost see this. And I mean, honestly, even with me, it's. You. It's not always easy to find those circles. And so if you can't, we have this wonderful thing called the Internet. And you could literally connect with people that are in those circles that you want to be a part of, whether it's, you know, via a podcast or. Or, you know, YouTube or Instagram. Because my. I mean, listen, my. My Instagram is like constant, like some sort of learning AI prompt slash, you know, like, so you can curate that. If you don't have those circles physically around you, you can definitely curate that virtually. So don't feel limited by that. And then that's also a less. That's less of an intimidating way to get a part of those circles. And then what you'll find out is the more you. You're listening to those folks reading those books, being around that stuff, those conversations will lead to people that, around you, they hear you talking about it, it's like, oh, you know, about. You know, and then that'll open up the door for that, man. So I definitely wanted to put that out there because I, I know that can be intimidating. You know, you just ain't gonna roll up in, you know, you think your boss, hey, man, we should hang out. You know, you just don't do that. [00:19:59] Speaker B: No, no, that's not working. [00:20:02] Speaker A: Yeah, but, yeah, definitely. Don't, don't. Don't take that as don't do it, but take it as, you know, use resources, be smart. We got the Internet. You can find groups, Facebook groups, all kind of things that. That can help you grow and help you continue to mature, man. Sure. [00:20:17] Speaker B: Yeah, that, that's, that's a great applicable lesson because I think a lot of times on this podcast we, we, we talk in circles about different things that motivate people and inspire people and engage in fitness and wellness and all those things. But I think sometimes we miss out on those applicable skills. And that's a, that's a, that's a great one. And I'm going to give another one. So this is something that I'm gonna, I actually stole from Andy Frisella. He said anywhere from three to five daily tasks, make them daily tasks that you want to instill into your life. So back, back when I was first getting like really deep and heavy into the fitness game, one thing was drink a gallon of water. So I started drinking a gallon of water. And once you can get that ingrained in, in your daily habits and behaviors, you take it off the list and you add something else and you want to, you want to have between three and five. Right now, I actually have five. One is read 10 pages every single day. And I've been struggling with reading. It's just, you know, it's, it's hard opening the book. Just like for a lot of people, it's hard putting the shoes on. For me, it's, it's. I, I struggle with opening the book. So I open the book, I read 10 pages, 30 plus minutes of cardio every day, 30 plus minutes of strength training every day, send out 10 or more emails for eager raise, for sponsorships, for donations every day. And then 10 plus minutes of meditation. Those are, those are five things that I struggle on a daily basis to get into my life. And all those five things are going to be on that list until I wake up and open the book up on my own. I don't have to look at my list. I'm just opening my book up and I, I read my 10 pages. Now once I can make that a daily behavior, I get out of bed and that's, that's the norm. Take that off the list, add something new. The next one might be, hey, I want to go for a 10 minute walk outside with no shoes. I don't know, that's just a made up one. But connecting with the, with mother Nature. [00:22:06] Speaker A: Yeah, they're grounded, man. You grounded. [00:22:08] Speaker B: Get grounded, man. Get grounded. [00:22:10] Speaker A: I like that, man. Not to cut you off, but I, I like that because I am, I, I'm. What I'm trying to do is something similar is, you know, trying to feel some, some of this like dead scrolling That I do with some productivity because I. I chop it up to. Hey, we. Our job is. Is online. Our job is social media. You know, I'm working, you know, but that. That. There's so much dead time that I. I use for that. And so I literally, like, this morning, like this morning, I. I walked the neighborhood. You know, I listened to, you know, some. Some inspirational stuff, even on the way to the gym. Just really trying to, you know, hone in on that. So I'm. I think I'm gonna do the same thing and make a list of those things. And. And for me, it has to go on, like, my calendar. Like, I gotta. I gotta have alarms and all of that. But I really like that concept. And then like you said, once it becomes second nature, then add something else and continue to grow. I really love that because opening a book is tough for me too. It's so much easier to scroll Instagram than it is to read. [00:23:25] Speaker B: So much. [00:23:26] Speaker A: See that? Take me back to the broccoli thing. Like, why. Why did. Why did God make it like this? Read books just as quick. You know what I mean? But no, like, it's so easy. So. [00:23:36] Speaker B: Well, you cut me off, so I'm gonna cut you off. I. I got. I got two minutes, and I gotta rock because the wife has a meeting. But you might. You might even be on the meat. I don't know. But. So here's what I was gonna say. So I. I've done 50 heart or 75 hard, right? So that's Andy Frisella's thing. I've mentioned him twice today. So Andy Frisella has this thing called 75 hard. And it is pretty intense and pretty extreme, but one of the things on there is read 10 pages out of a book every day, and it cannot be an audiobook. Why? Because that. It. That's convenience. Like, we try to convenience ourselves at all costs, and when we convenience ourselves and we don't inconvenience ourselves, we're not building a kingdom. You want to build a kingdom, you have to inconvenience yourself from time to time. That's why I said it's got to be a physical book where you open it up. It ain't no audiobook. It's no, you know. You know, you're in the car and, yeah, I'll pop this in. I listen to podcasts all day when I'm in my car. But he. He said the reason that it's like that, and. And he's. He also has, hey, you got to do a half an hour workout outside. Doesn't matter. The elements. Doesn't matter if it's harsh. No, he says if it's a safety concern. Okay. Now we can taper back a little bit, but get outside and get that 30 minute workout in every single day. Why? Because inconvenience builds kingdoms. [00:24:49] Speaker A: Yes. I love it. And that's how we're going to close right now. [00:24:51] Speaker B: Yeah. Get it. [00:24:53] Speaker A: Till next time. We'll be seeing y'. All. He's out.
