Episode Transcript
[00:00:00] Speaker A: What up, what up, what up? What's going on, everybody? Hey, if you can't see it, you can never chase it. Let's talk about building that vision, man. Give me that quote, brother.
[00:00:09] Speaker B: When you combine powerful visualization with deliberate actions, you can have whatever you seek.
[00:00:16] Speaker A: Oh, I like that, brother. Let's get into it.
Are you ready?
[00:00:22] Speaker B: Are you ready?
[00:00:38] Speaker A: What it looked like, Would it be like, what it do? Back in here, another episode of the Bad podcast. Brad and Dwayne, back here with my brother Brad, man, we are super excited to come to you on this Monday or whenever you're in the beautiful bird. What? No, wherever you are in the beautiful world, as Bradley like to say in his class, and whenever you're listening, whenever you watch it, man, we appreciate. Appreciate you guys, man. So we're going to jump into the episode pretty quickly, but before we do, man, I always like to take a moment and thank you guys for commenting, sharing, all of those things, man. Though that is what helped propel this podcast. And, you know, more people can find it and share it, and we're. We're not, you know, we would love to be sponsored, you know, outside of, you know, regular E2M stuff, which we, you know, you're definitely welcome to do that, but me and Brad just love to do this, man. We love to motivate, we love to encourage, we love to just. Just speak positive, man, for people and. And help you. You know, we. We are regular guys that just love motivation, and we love to inspire, man. So by commenting, by sharing, that helps, you know, just grow this platform to a place where, you know, we can. We can sit and put our feet up one day, Brad, and just do podcasts.
[00:01:48] Speaker B: Yes, sir.
Yeah.
[00:01:51] Speaker A: Yeah. So let's get into it, man.
[00:01:52] Speaker B: Yeah, no, I'm glad you said that, because I just had a really good conversation with a good friend of mine yesterday, the day before, and he asked me, he said, man, didn't. Didn't you love teaching? I said, I loved teaching. He says, why did you ever get out? I said, because I. I had a. I had an opportunity to inspire and motivate hundreds of thousands of people with my platform and stage, and that's why I made that transition. That's why you made the transition. And, And. And, you know, if you don't have hundreds of thousands of people right at your fingertips, folks, start with where you're at. I mean, I was doing the same thing of what I'm doing now 10, 15 years ago, whether it was coaching, whether it was teaching, whether it was you know, hosting my events.
So what, whatever your stage is, folks, just, just pour into whoever's watching. And you don't think anybody's watching, somebody's watching. But that was a little, little, little segue. A little, a little bit.
[00:02:47] Speaker A: Yeah, let's get into this vision.
[00:02:49] Speaker B: Yeah, the bifocals, man.
Yeah. Visualization isn't, is imperative in, in all growth. And I, I was talking about this just recently in one of my lives. We all have imagination, right? We all have imagination. And, and a lot of times our imagination works against us because when you go through life, you're progressing through life, you have fears. And what happens is when we see something we fear or we have something in our lives that we fear, we use our imagination and we come up with this hypothetical scary circumstance and it talks us out of it. And what you have to do is you have to look at the thing, reading a book, writing a book, listening to a podcast that instills personal development and ask yourself, is this going to be life or death? And chances are it's not going to be a life or death situation, right?
So engage with that thing only if it has a healthy return, right? In everything that you do, you can ask yourself, does this have a healthy return or does it not have a healthy return? And if it has a healthy return, like healthy foods, investing your money, exercise, like things that have a healthy return, engage with those things. And if you ask yourself, because every decision you make and every action that you take has either a healthy return or an unhealthy return, it's just like temptation. Like a Friday night, like your boys call you and, and you go out and you, you make that decision to go out Friday night, maybe that's what you need emotionally like that, maybe that's what you need physically.
And, and if, if you ask yourself, you know, use that imagination to your advantage. If you ask yourself, does this have a healthy return or not, if the answer is yes, boom, do it. If it doesn't, maybe, maybe hesitate to go that way.
[00:04:35] Speaker A: Yeah, man. So I, I found, I saw a quote earlier this week that made me think about it when he's talking about, you know, like your imagination creating the worst of the worst.
And it was anxiety is the mind rehearsing worst case scenarios that may never happen.
You know, a lot of people put themselves in like, you know, anxiety. They think through something that that hasn't happened, may never happen.
And, and they let that, you know, you know, stagnate them, you know, and, you know, there are a lot like, you know, not, not to call out my wife, but, you know, she, she, she's a thinker, she's overthinker. You know, she runs all the scenarios. I think it's synonymous for a lot of women, but they run all these scenarios and then they get like, stressed out and I'm like, yo, it ain't even, that ain't even happened. Like, like the, the thing that's happened is already. Like some stuff has already passed. Like this could have happened. Like, no, no.
Well, don't be anxious about what could have happened. We already passed it, you know, but it's just amazing how your mind does that. And what made that quote stick out to me was, you know, you are running a rehearsing scenario, something that never happened. Why can't that something that never happened be good? Like you rehearse a scenario of something positive happening, something. You know, we do that with athletes. I remember our coach used to tell us, you know, you know, concentrate, visualize the game. You know, think about, you know, where you're going to be on the floor, you know, who, who the. You think about all the move all the positive things that's going to happen. And, and that's how you, you know, you kind of, you set that thing. You use that, use that overthinking in a way that, that cannot propel you forward.
[00:06:12] Speaker B: Yeah, man. Imagination to your advantage. And, and it's positive imagery, right? And I used to do the same thing for goaltending and I, I had this goaltender. It was an old school video. It's from like the 1970s. It was old school. But one of the things that I still do to this day at 37 years old, I don't, I don't do it as much as I used to, but it'd be a mental exercise, a mental rehearsal. Every game I would sit all by myself. My coach at every game, hey, you all right? Because I'd be just sitting there and I wouldn't be talking to anybody. I had my eyes closed. But you mentally rehearse the game. You imagine yourself making the big save and, you know, doing a full split and doing the glove save. And you have to create those positive images and use that imagination to your advantage. You will always, you will never have any problem creating a, a scenario like a worst case scenario. There's no problem. There's no problem making a worst case scenario. Yeah, very easy. But to make the best case scenario, like, I'm going to be a state championship, I'm going to be a state champion, I'm going to lose £100. I'm going to do an Ironman. I'm going to. You know, it's so difficult to create that image. But if you can let your imagination run wild, man, there are some cool things you can rehearse in your mind and then you just got to follow up with all the, you got to have some congruency with, with your decisions, your behaviors, your actions and make sure you're, you're, those are congruent with your imagination and your dreams. Like that's, that's, that's how you got to use your imagination to your dreams. And again, you know, I, I like to use spiders and snakes. I always use spiders and snakes because I hate spiders and I hate snakes.
And you know, when you look at a spider or a snake, when you look like when I look at a spider, the first thing that I think is that movie Arachnophobia, man. Those suckers were like that big and they just pounce on people, right? I think snakes, I think the movie Anaconda with, with the ice Cube and JLo Golly. You know, but again you ask yourself, is that little, is that little two foot snake? Is that a, is that a real life or death situation? Chances are probably not. Is that spider that's the size of a 50 cent piece. Is that a life or death situation? Probably not. You, you know, it's, it's not gonna, it's not gonna take you out. It might take me out, but take my wife out.
You gotta shift your imagination.
[00:08:26] Speaker A: Yeah, yeah, no, I, I just made that face, man. Because spiders, it don't matter. The south, them jokers, man. Yeah, yeah, we don't do them.
[00:08:36] Speaker B: I hope Pete is not watching the best spiders. A dead spider.
Peter will not sponsor us. Right, right.
[00:08:44] Speaker A: Sorry, sorry. No, no, no animals were harmed conversation here. But no man.
And you know, not to, not to go too deep or spiritual but you know, it's even.
I call it the good Book, man. It's even in there about, you know, you know, make the vision and then write the vision and make it plain. Like not only visualize something but also write it down and also make a plan, you know, to, to, to, you know, to I guess to achieve that thing. And you know, like you said, it starts with the imagination. It starts with that, that thought and, and thinking of something good and thinking of, you know, ways to improve. And I, I think and you know, we say it's, it's harder to do that. I, I know people that they do that easy. It's the next Part that they struggle with, it's the making a plan. It's the writing it down. It's to execute, you know, it's the next part that, that a lot of people struggle with, man. So it, it all ties together. When it comes to your fitness journey, you have to, you know, you want, you want to, you want to imagine it, you want to visualize it, you want to make your plan, then you want to execute. It all works together.
[00:09:52] Speaker B: Yeah. Forecasting, man. Put, put it on paper. And I, I've told the story a hundred times. I, I don't do it.
I, I. What's that?
[00:10:00] Speaker A: He said tell it again. Let's go.
[00:10:02] Speaker B: Yeah, I'm going to tell it 101. I, I've told, I think I was on the last podcast. I have sticky notes, right?
[00:10:07] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:10:07] Speaker B: And for me, like, I, it's not a sticky note, but it's a piece of computer paper, and I, I randomly will put one next to my bathroom mirror or in my bedroom with my current goal. And what happens way too often, this, this is kind of off, off the beaten path a little bit, but not really.
What happens too often is, is we start to pursue a goal, right? And it, it's two weeks into the game, and we don't quite obtain that goal yet, and then all of a sudden we're changing our goal. And that's why we can't get the goal is because we're forever changing our goal. And I'm all about evolution, I'm all about change, I'm all about all that. But if you have a goal, you got to stay constant and consistent towards that goal for long enough to obtain that goal. Once you obtain that goal, then pivot, then adapt, then evolve, then go after the next one. But until you have that, that goal, like you have to have, again, positive imagery, keep that, keep that, keep that image of where you want to be, you know, where you want to go, what you want to become. Keep that vision at the forefront until you obtain that vision. And when you obtain that vision, then, then we can just start to adapt. But don't, don't bail, don't jump ship until, until you see Land Ho. And then once you get on that land, okay, now we can adapt. Now we can set sail for something else.
[00:11:24] Speaker A: Yeah, yeah, we can. We did talk about that a little bit, too, because we talked about the people that, you know, were doing Vacation Body, and then we came out with Lean, and they weren't finished with Vacation Body. You know, it was like, it's okay, you know, if you want, like, in that circumstance, it's okay, you know, but. Because it's all the same company. It's all the same, you know, whatever. But in. In general, you definitely want to try to see it through. You definitely want to, you know, because it's hard to. It's hard to say something don't work if you don't, you know, take it all the way. You don't take it to the island. Like you said, land hood.
That made me chuck a little bit. But. But that's the thing, man. It. It don't.
You know, you really have to.
You. You can't discredit it because. And we see that so many times, man. We see that with our clients. I mean, you know, they. The folks that. That last one or two weeks and fall off, and, man, this ain't for me. This ain't working. You don't know. Like, you didn't. You didn't take it to the eight, you know, and that was one of the things I always said in my journey. And like, I said. I said that before on the, you know, my friends would ask about it, and I. I quote an old, old church. Him. You know, I'm gonna see what the end gonna be. I'm gonna keep going. So I see what the end gonna be, because that was. I was determined. Like, I'm gonna give it eight weeks. You know, where we go from there? I don't know.
[00:12:42] Speaker B: Sure.
[00:12:42] Speaker A: But, you know, you. You want to take it all the way, man, so that you can, you know, then make the adjustments. Then what. What. What's our. What is the Emerald City? Then find your next Emerald.
[00:12:54] Speaker B: I heard that story.
No, you know, I. I like to relate to public speaking because I'm trying to get into public speaking a little bit more. And that's the number one fear in the world, is public speaking. And before I get on stage, it doesn't matter if I'm with a group of elementary kids, a group of high school kids, a run club, a juvenile prison, like, wherever I'm at speaking to people, before I get on that stage, I spend three to five minutes just visualizing me, just. Just capturing the. The. The audience and. And getting everybody's attention. When I. I had one a few weeks ago at. Not my former high school, but a neighboring high school.
And I, I mean, you could have heard a pin drop. These kids were so attentive and so drawn in. But you. But that doesn't happen without that proper preparation. Like, you have to get. You have to get yourself in that state of mind where, you know, you can't be distracted because when you get on stage, there's distractions all the time. When you're in the fitness game, you, you're, you're distracted all the time in anything in life that's valuable. Like there's, there's people pulling your attention over here, there's people pulling your distract. Like there's distraction everywhere.
And this is a little bit off, off beaten path too. And I, we mentioned this. Yeah, we do, we did. We talked about this behind the scenes, man. And you want to talk about distraction to an all time high. There's a lot of people in your life and you know, on, on the outskirts of your life that will try to distract you from where you want to go.
They're called haters and naysayers. But a hater is only a hater if you let them in.
Don't let them into your life. Don't let your attention and your energy go anywhere else. Like, listen to me. So I, I, I just stumbled upon like some social media action and I took my energy and I, I was drawn to that, to that social media action. And it was negative energy, right? But I spent five minutes of my time looking at that and it absorbed some of the good energy that I had. Like it brought me down, right? And when I spend that, that five minutes of energy drawn to that thing, that's five minutes of good energy. I could have been running, reading, writing, talking to my wife, hanging out with my kids. Like that is five minutes of my energy completely wasted in the, the end of this quote. This is, this is something I heard from a man ET he said a hater's only a hater if you let them in. Otherwise they're just delusional because they're creating stories in their mind. Don't, don't be drawn into their delusions.
Stay here, stay right here and spend all your time and energy on creating a positive imagination, a positive image, a positive forecast, and then, and then follow through. See that vision.
See that vision through.
[00:15:30] Speaker A: Yeah, man. No, legit, legit, man. You know, the, the distractions, they, they are everywhere, negative and positive, you know, and you know, you have to, some of them, you know, you have to ignore some of them, you have to tend to, you know, some of them, some of them are the kids, you know, you're working out and hey, they need a peanut butter sandwich. Like you gotta take a break and go, you know what I'm saying? Like that's real.
[00:15:55] Speaker B: Like a crunchy boy, you know what.
[00:15:57] Speaker A: I'M saying, like, so some distractions are. It's a thing, man. This is really a thing where you, you know, you have to adapt.
Whether. Whether it is a hater, naysayer, family member, you know, you. It's not going to be smooth. You know, we literally, before we hit record, I asked Brad if he could help slow down time. Like, you know, because you. There's always going to be something. There's never going to be the perfect time to start. Never going to be the perfect time to. To do this. There's never gonna be a perfect time to do that.
You just have to get it done, man. You just have to, you know, visualize it, you know, plan it executed, you know. It's never going to be a perfect time. I think I even my real. This week was talking about, you know, people that they're working out, you know, because that's one of the things, you know, people like, especially with. With. With the premium lean being every other day, you know, like, okay, Monday I'm doing lean, you know, Tuesday I'm gonna do the circuit.
You know, it's like, like, bro, no, don't, Don't. Don't try to, you know, overdo it, man. But you. You really. You really want to keep it simple, you know, prepare for distractions, you know, give yourself extra time, you know, get, you know, prepare for those things that happen, and then you'll have way more success that way, man. So, yeah, I. I really like that.
[00:17:16] Speaker B: Accidents happen when you're rushing and. And when you're distracted and. And the reason that I bring that up is I. I am somebody that is always on time. I like to be. I like to be to a place early.
And the other day, I mean, I'm just cruising along. I already dropped my little rushy off, and I was bringing Beckett to school, and I'm just cruising along, following the speed limit. And some guy, he must have been late for an appointment or late for work. I mean, he came flying around me, cut in front of me, just took off. Well, guess who was pulled over 200 yards up the road. That's how accidents happen. That's how you get yourself trapped. Trapped in. In, you know, on the side of the road. But the one thing I wanted to say to what you're To. To your point, there is. You know, I like to look at life as, like, the laundry. Like, it. It doesn't matter how many loads of laundry you do, there's always going to be more laundry. Like, there's always going to be more. More things to do more, more decisions to make. Like, there's always going to be something to do, you know, and you, you have to create a priority list and you want, you want to talk about any, any growth starts with number one. It starts with you. Like, that's what they tell you when you get on the airplane. Like, if this, if this airplane goes down, don't save your kid, don't save your spouse, don't save your parents. You gotta save number one, and then you can save everybody. But you have to save yourself first. And, and it's hard to deny the fact that fitness, health, nutrition, well, like your emotional wellness, all those things don't pour into that. So first, start taking care of number one. That's number one on your laundry list. And take care of number one. We're all over the map. And I don't care. Two.
And then once by, by taking care of you, then you can start taking care of the laundry. Then you can start taking care of the kids and your spouse and your parents and all that. But you got to prioritize, number one. And, and somebody said, man, I don't get up early. I value my sleep. So do I, folks. I, I really do. And I probably don't get enough. And I know, Dwayne, I know for a fact you don't get enough.
But listen, when you talk priorities, right? And you start to, you start to time, manage, okay, where can I fit in me time. Like, that's the reason I get up at 3:37, because I need me time, right? I need me time. And because my kid, my kids, my, my Becket's in a bad habit right now. He's getting up at like 5:35, 45, and I'm like, buddy, way too early. When you, when the, when the sun ain't out, you can't be, you can't be out of bed, bud.
And, but you gotta find me time and then work around that. Like, most of us have jobs 9 to 5 or whatever. Most of us have kids, most of us have, you know, hobbies. Most of us have Little league baseball. For me, it's T bombing the T ball boy, final game. When this, when this podcast dropped. We got the championship tonight. We don't even keep score, but we got the chip tonight. Come on now.
You know, but find that me time. Find that section of time that you can really prioritize. You and then put that into your imagination, okay? If I show up from, from this time to this time, what could, what could I be? What could I become if I Show up here.
[00:20:32] Speaker A: Yeah, I was. I was trying to. I got two things. I know we. We definitely all over the place.
[00:20:36] Speaker B: All over the place.
[00:20:38] Speaker A: So the first thing, you know, I used to work in logistics, transportation, you know, tractor trailer, that world. And like, there. We like. It's. It's a statistic that speeding on your route does not get you there sooner. If you. You go the same. Do you go to speed limit, you burn. You don't burn too much fuel, you know, you. You less. Like, less likely to have any accidents, of course, but literally, if you maintain the speed limit in between stops, you will. You will be on time sometimes ahead of the person that tries to speed and take shots and, you know, so. And that. I. I think that applies to life, man. Just, you know, you know, don't rush, you know, go to speed limit, man. You know, drive safe with that. But the other thing was, you know, with the sleep thing I saw, you know, you can find. You can prove anything with the Internet, y' all.
[00:21:30] Speaker B: Anything you.
[00:21:32] Speaker A: You can have, I can say, you know, spaghetti, diet, will, you know, well, when. Whatever I could. I could get some research and show you how the complex carbs and. But anyway, somebody posted about the sleep thing, and it was like the studies show it is about. I think they said about four or 40. I can't remember the number. 40 of people that can actually function from four hours of sleep. Like, they don't need the whole eight hours. I was like, man, I must be part of that group or something. I don't know.
[00:22:02] Speaker B: You're in an elite group, my friend.
[00:22:04] Speaker A: But it was saying. But they said it was a. It was a. A mutation, like in, Like a genetic mutation that, you know, allows, you know, humans to get four, about four, four to five hours and function, you know, So I don't know. I. It. It could have been false. It could have been made up, you know, whatever. But I'm running with it. I'm gonna.
[00:22:27] Speaker B: Yes, sir.
[00:22:28] Speaker A: Tell me. Call me, call me. Wolverine.
[00:22:30] Speaker B: You use your imagination. Let it run. Wow. Man, I. I gotta get my six. I gotta get six.
[00:22:36] Speaker A: If I.
[00:22:37] Speaker B: If I. If I'm short of that six, boy, I.
I can still function, but I'm, you know, towards the latter of the day, man, I am. I'm dragging. Hey, drop in the comments. How many hours does everybody sleep? How many hours does everybody need to. To sleep, to. To operate? Not even at an optimal level, but, like, at a decent level.
[00:22:58] Speaker A: Yeah, I would love to see that. Because here's my argument, man, because people always owe me about my sleep. And again, we're all over. But you know, like when they say, oh, when in the evening, you know, you knock out. That's what you're supposed to do at night.
[00:23:11] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:23:13] Speaker A: What am I, what am I up.
[00:23:14] Speaker B: For not running a marathon tonight?
[00:23:16] Speaker A: Yeah, like, you know, when you sit down, you fall asleep. Well, I mean, nothing going on.
[00:23:23] Speaker B: I don't feel so bad dozing off when I'm watching one of Adrian's Netflix.
[00:23:27] Speaker A: Series movies, Bro, all the way.
All the way.
You know, the whole song. I mean, I'd be sleeping, brother, that's for sure.
That is for sure. But no, that and, and just to say, you know, you know, there's nothing wrong. I mean, I'm. I'm definitely advocate if you need your eight hours. They say it's healthy. All that I'm for. But I value that time you mentioned, man. That time.
That's why I do it like it's the only time for me. It's the only time. My phone isn't ringing. I'm not. There's no messages unless it's Brad.
[00:24:04] Speaker B: Unless I need you.
[00:24:05] Speaker A: Yeah, let's. Brad complaining about stuff early in the morning, but other than that, man, it's so quiet, man. And I really, I really appreciate that time that I get, you know, in the gym and there's not a lot of people and, you know, so that's. That's one of the things, man.
I know we're getting ready to land this plane very soon, but I wanted to read a comment because we did ask. When you said leaving the comments about the sleep, I was like, dang. We asked him to say something about the comment in the comments and I forgot to pull it up. My apologies, guys.
My head, not my heart.
But as I look this up, Brad, man, take over, man.
[00:24:46] Speaker B: Yeah. You know, landing planes and, and, you know, value valuing that time in the morning.
That's. That. That's exactly what I was saying about, you know, the stewardess coming across the loudspeaker saying, hey, take care of yourself first. Like that time in the morning that you cherish that. That's you saving yourself. That's you putting the mask on first. And you can't put your kid's mask on when without putting your mask on first. You can't put on your wife's mask or your parents mask without putting your own mask on first. And, and hopefully nobody's plane's going down. But if your plane's going down, your life's going down. Put your mask on first. Prioritize a chunk of time for you. Save. You save number one and then. And then pour into everybody around you.
[00:25:27] Speaker A: I love it, man. I love it. So I hate to do this because I know it personally, but it was one of the best comments.
Dr. Parker is what? Dr. Parker nine one zero says we have to jump in or at least try to.
It keeps. I keep it moving. No excuses. And she said, I love the contract idea and I'm excited about Sunday sizzle. Let's go.
[00:25:54] Speaker B: So Sunday says let's get it.
[00:25:58] Speaker A: Coming. Mark your calendars.
When is this dropping? Oh, so I can let you guys know because you're going to start seeing stuff about it. But Brad's other class, Cardio Fusion will be dropping very soon. Brad and Jeff and Will Carter and Mandy. You're going to see Mandy doing something a little different. Uh, I.
