[00:01:39] Speaker B: Yeah, Just extremely blessed for our following in the community that we've built over the last handful of years. How long have we been doing this? How many years are we doing this? [00:01:49] Speaker A: Oh, man, I think we're coming up on three, maybe two or three. [00:01:52] Speaker B: Three years, man. It feels. It doesn't feel like that. [00:01:56] Speaker A: No, no. [00:01:58] Speaker B: Yeah. But, yeah, I just wanted to say thanks. You know, I. We've had good conversations over the years at meetups and such, and, you know, just. Just an absolute blessing to hear from from some of the. The followers and, you know, we. We do this for. For you guys. You know, this isn't for us. Dwayne and I talk regardless. Yeah, it's just nice to, you know, it's just nice to hear some of the feedback and hear some of the stories and, you know, how we helped. So I think that's some of the homework that we can take out of this is, you know, how. How is this podcast helping you specifically? And personally? [00:02:33] Speaker A: Yeah, I like that, man. A read and potentially give it a shot on the next cast, man. So. All right, Brad, man, let's jump into it, man. Let's jump in. Literally, [00:03:06] Speaker B: this is the season, man. So when we're recording this, it is extremely toasty in western New York and down where you guys are at, you know, and really countrywide. But we're going to talk a little bit about swimming today. And, you know, I got quite a background in swimming. I've done an ironman. I've swam across Chautauqua Lake, which is, I think, just over a mile. You know, I grew up in a pool. But right now, my little rushy bear is learning to swim, and he's, you know, he's wanting to, you know, look like Michael Phelps out there. He wants to do the freestyle, he wants to do the breaststroke, he wants to do the butterfly. But he's, he's having a tough time staying afloat. And, you know, it's hard to tell a young, A young person that you are going to sink before you swim, because when you're young, you just have an expectation that you're going to succeed, right? Yeah. And as we progress through life, sometimes we have that same expectation that we're just going to succeed and there's not going to come all those, those steps of failure. You know, you, you, you failed. I failed. Anybody that's had any sort of success in life has. Has fallen on their face. They. They've tripped up, they've faltered before they got onto their feet and succeeded. So we're going to talk literally about swimming today, figuratively about swimming today and how you can utilize and just really hone in on the reasons why you fail and some of the practical takeaways to. From failing and how you, how you overcome and succeed ultimately. [00:04:44] Speaker A: Yeah, no 100%. And it's great that, you know, both of us is on this podcast because Brad, bring you the side of experienced swimmer and miles of swimming, and I bring you the side of struggling. You know, not, Not a lot of experience with swimming. You know, the. I grew up in the country and, you know, we didn't have a neighborhood pond I mean, neighborhood pool. We had a pond, but it was too moccasins in it and so, you know, couldn't. Yeah, Brad, we. It was bad and garter snakes. Yeah, we have, we have moccasins, brother, in the, in the swamps and, and creeks on, on our side. And then I actually took swimming in college, you know, because phys ed major and you know, pretty much I could say what it. I. I propelled my way to an A because I didn't get too many strokes. I just kicked off the wall hard enough. So it took me like most. I only had a stroke like two or three times and I was there. So. Yeah, man. But you know, before we kind of get into the application of it, you know, my wife, you literally tells the story. She says, I almost became a. I was a wife and a widow almost at the same time. We went to the Bahamas and I tried to snorkel. You know, I thought, you know, I got. Had the little mini floater thing. I was like, okay, you know, I'm good. But every time I would try to suck air in, I was getting water. And so it was like panic and almost. Yeah. So Brad is experienced, I'm not experienced. We're going to talk about both. [00:06:24] Speaker B: Yeah. Well, I like the word that you use there is panic. And so panic's a great word to describe swimming because that's what my Rushy Bear does. And so I'm going to actually take it back a couple of months. And I think we talked about this previously, but in February we were in Florida and my Rushy Bear went underwater twice. He is definitely afraid of water. Leading up to that Florida trip, he was all about jumping in and going underwater and having a blast. But now he's got some fear instilled down to his core. And it's, it's kind of frustrating to watch and discouraging to watch. It's sad to watch because I know how much he loves water, but I know that he panics in water now because of that instinct instilled fear. And that's, that's sort of how life goes and fitness goes and self development goes is we have these fears of going all in on something because we have in the back of our mind that we may fail or we may sink. And that's what we're talking about today. But right now, you know, I'm trying to teach him how to swim, do the doggy paddle and I'm holding his belly, but as soon as I let go, what happens? He stops doggy paddling. He stops the fundamentals, he starts to panic. And when you start to panic, that' going to fail. That's when you're going to sink to the bottom. So when you, when you, when you take the training wheels off, so to speak, those are the most important moments not to panic and just kind of fall into the fundamentals and the basics. And everybody here that is watching this podcast hopefully knows the fundamentals and the basics of fitness and nutrition. And all that is. That was what E2M8 Week was all about, is teaching the absolute foundation to weight loss and health, overall wellness, you know, and, and so it's frustrating right now and sad to watch my Rushy Bear panic because of that fear. But what's happening also is when he, when I let go and when he takes a couple of paddle paddles and, and you know, he can stay afloat for a little bit, the smile that he has. Right. And I think, you know, when you can overcome some of those fears. Yeah, you know, that's, that's when the, that's when the joy comes out. That's when true happiness comes out and is, is really highlighted. So it's neat to, it's neat to watch firsthand. Don't panic, don't panic. Don't panic. Go back right back down to the, the fundamentals and, and, and, and settle in instead of panicking. [00:08:52] Speaker A: Yeah, man, that, and that's, you know, we kind of talked about it, we teased it in the beginning. You know, part of doing something or accomplishing something, there is going to be setback. Like, it's very few things that you're going to start out with and just be really good at. You know, it's funny, you know, my, my uncle, one of my uncles, you know, they, they, if you leave it out of them, they were the baddest man to ever walk the earth, you know, from their teenage, you know, up until I was conscious enough to know what's going on. They. So I, I actually made a post about, you know, nobody is born strong, nobody's born a leader, born whatever. And he, he commented, he was like, I must be special then, you know, but, but that's the, that's, that's the mindset some people have, man, is, you know, and then there's some places where you may be. But you know what I love about. Especially when it comes to fitness, man, you know, it's humbling. You know, you, you can go in like, okay, I'm gonna do this, do that, and you grab that bar, you pick up a dumbbell. He's like, like this is a little bit more. But the difference is you don't quit, man. You keep showing up, you know, you don't, you don't fall into a place of imma. Just give up. I can't do it. But that's, that's another reason why fitness is so important, man. It, it can be applied everywhere else because it teaches you how to show up and do the same thing over and over. Trying to get better when you're not seeing, you know, progress immediately, what do you call it, Instant gratification. You're not seeing that with fitness. You got to keep showing up and keep doing it. And that applies to business. You know, I, I watched Jeff do stuff and make moves and talk to this person, talk to that person, all of these moves. We don't see nothing right away, man, but it's something that's building, that's gonna, gonna pay off in the long run, man. And I think, you know, when it comes to any kind of success, you know, like we mentioned there, there's, there's points where you fail, there's points where you, you know, my favorite thing to talk about is those 100 pound dumbbells, man. Like, I could only get them two or three times. You know, two or three years ago, I can only, you know, I can only get them ways high. And now, you know, this morning ripped out 10, ripped out 11. [00:11:01] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:11:02] Speaker A: You know, and, and just to look back at that, man, it just, you know, it's just amazing. And, and I know I keep going back to that, but that's just my life, y'. All, Y' all gotta deal with it. [00:11:10] Speaker B: Yeah, no, I, I think that's great to go back to that because that's a, that's a prime example. And if you would never have posted that video and you had, you would post this past week and you did it 10 times, 11 times, 12 times. You know, a lot of people see the results, they see the stage, they see the outcomes and, and that's what they want. Like, so when this drops live, Team USA plays tonight in, in, in the, the final 16. There's a special name for it, like the round of 16 or whatever it's called, but it's a, it's a very special time for USA Soccer and a lot of people just think that, oh man, USA is good. No, I, there's, there was levels to it, there was step, there was tryouts. Like they had been practicing for years to get to this stage. And, and so many people see the stage. So I, I Do a lot of motivational speaking and you know, these people reach out to me and like, hey, how, how did you get into that? Like how, how lucky guys, I've been doing this since 2020. Like I, I didn't just wake up yesterday and, and people are getting hold of me to do motivational speaking. Like I've been doing this since 2020 and gradually got to the stage. Like I didn't just jump on the stage yesterday, but that's what people see. They see the final product and they want that. And, and you had mentioned something about fitness being extremely humbling. So you know, with my, with my 10,000 miles of bike riding and 17,000 miles of bike riding, I lost an extremely insane amount of muscular strength, especially with my pull ups. And you want to talk about humbling, take even five days off of doing pull ups and then go do, try to knock out seven pull ups. Like, good luck, right? So I took off. Probably eight months of no pull ups. I jumped on that pull up bar thinking I'd do five sets of seven. Like I was with, with weight around my waist. I couldn't even do five sets of seven without any weight on my waist. Humbling. But again, you don't give up. You don't quit. You align, you know, your, your work ethic with where you want to go and you put in each step and each, each progression and you have an understanding and you have an expectation that it's going to pay off. But you got to keep putting in the work. You got to keep coming back. You got to keep, you know, here's, here's what I want to tell everybody that's listening. Failure is not the opposite of success. It's the price of admission. If you want to get on the stage, if you want to cross the finish line to an iron man, if you want to write your own book, if you want to do something, you got to play. You got to play the game. You got to pay the price of admission. Failure is a part of success. It's, it's, it's, it's, it's level one. It's like playing Mario. Like you get knocked down by Bowser 25 times and you finally overcome Bowser. You win the game, then it's, it's prosper. I prosper. You have to fail. You got to learn through your failures. That's a price of admission. [00:14:04] Speaker A: No 100%. And part of the reason why a kid struggle with failure is because there is no Mario nowadays. They out there playing Roblox and it's Endless. There's no. You don't die. You play for hours. You know, you build on this, you build on that. Mario, they didn't care where you were in that game. If you got out, you starting over, bruh. Like, that was so frustrating. Ah, that was the worst. It don't matter. You. You. And. And. But that was life, though, Brad. That taught us life, bro. Because, you know, you. You. You finish that first stage and you go underneath, and then you get farther than you were. You get out. You're not gonna start under that. You got to start from the beginning, man. And so that's the thing, man. We. We. And. And I've seen that it was saying that video games, you know, kind of reshape a generation. You know, we. We know what it's like to. To, you know, lose all your lives, have to start over. Like, we. We understand, you know, having to try to strive for perfection and continue in repetition and failing. There's no failing in Roblox, Brad. I don't know if. [00:15:09] Speaker B: I don't know if you can know what that is. [00:15:12] Speaker A: Okay. It's like a 3D virtual world. Believe me, it will come to your house when they get a little bit older brother. [00:15:18] Speaker B: Like Minecraft. [00:15:21] Speaker A: Yeah, yeah. Roblox. Minecraft. Roblox is like, for the younger kids. Minecraft is a little bit. [00:15:26] Speaker B: Yeah, Becca likes the Minecraft. [00:15:29] Speaker A: Okay, okay, so it's the same thing. It's a 3D world. You don't get out in Minecraft. Look, only thing you got in Minecraft is you gotta. You get more money and so you can build more stuff. Yeah, you don't know. Okay, well, listen, but what I'm saying is it's not teaching the kids the value of having goals, setting goals, accomplishing something, failing at it, because everybody want in. Mario, you wanted to win. You fail. But you didn't put the control up unless you. Unless you got tired for that day. Because I know I would if I. But you keep trying, man. You keep picking yourself up, you know, and. And the thing that. That we really want to drive home is every successful person, man, they've experienced rejection, they've experienced setbacks, they've experienced failure. They've experienced those things, like. And I'm glad you brought up, you know, the final product. A lot of people see the final product. You don't know the. So many shortcomings and. And setbacks and failures. And, you know, we. We're sports guys, you know, missed shots, you know, the game winners that they lost. You know, the. The practice that they played, they didn't practice well, or they, they twisted the ankle. You know, all the things, man, lead up to that, that glorious moment that we all celebrate. So anybody that you see, anybody you see successful, or anybody you admire, they did not get there without failure, man. And you know, Gary Vee, one of my favorite guys, you know, when it comes to socials, you know, he said, man, I, I love the process so well. He's like, I love failure so well, could that let me know I'm actually getting closer to my goal, man? He's like, if I failed, I was like, oh, I'm almost there. Like, let me keep, keep going. Let me keep grinding. And that's just a mindset that, you know, that a lot of people don't have. I mean, honestly, I didn't have until hearing the right voices, man. So this is us giving you that advice, man. When you fail, that just means you're just a little bit closer to that goal. [00:17:31] Speaker B: Yeah. And you're instilling growth into your life. You know, I'll just use you and I as examples. If we're doing an incline bench press and we're doing five pound dumbbells, we're not going to fail unless we do a thousand reps. But if you put £100 on me in an incline dumbbells, I'm probably going to fail a bunch of times. I'm going to have a bunch of rejection until that one day that I have that massive breakthroug. And then, you know, it's, it's. It's like Gary Vee says, the closer you get. So I always like to draw an image with everybody and, and say it's like a target, Right. You know, from here I can see that target, but the closer I get to that target, this, the more narrow the target gets and the target actually shifts. Because once I start to hit that bullseye, the bullseye changes, right? Like, yes. I want to do seven. Seven pull ups. Five sets of seven pull ups, one set. Excuse me. Once I do that. Okay, now, now it's I'm adding weight or I'm adding reps. That's progressive overload. That's how growth occurs, Right? And when you, when you fall short, instead of asking why, ask yourself, what's this teaching me? Mike Jordan missed 9,000 shots, right? Missed 9,000 shots. Whatever. Whatever the quote is. But what did he learn? He learned that the bad boys from the Pistons were taking him out. So what did he have to do? He had to get stronger. He got. He got with Tim Grover. Tim Grover got him into the weight room, weight room, instilled some muscle. Then he went over with Denny Rodman. Then he went over against Isaiah. He went with Bill Lambert. Like, he went after those guys with. With strength. With strength training, but he connected the dots of not. Why is this happening? What's it teaching me? I need to get stronger. I need to adapt. I need to evolve. I. I can't do anything about the pistons, but I can control what I can control, right? And I think that's a responsibility that a lot of people just are afraid of taking, because if I take the responsibility of lifting weights and I go against the Pistons and I get knocked on my face again, we. Again, you come back to that word fear. We fear judgment, man. This kid's been working extremely hard, and he keeps failing. You can't fear judgment. You can't fear what other people are thinking of you. It's your life. It's your journey. It's your path. Prepare yourself, right? And when you're prepared, that's what gives you confidence. That's how you win six chips. [00:19:56] Speaker A: Yes, sir. [00:19:57] Speaker B: How you put the six rings on the fingers. [00:19:59] Speaker A: Yes, sir. Preparation. Man, I love that, man. That was boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, knocking the pins down. I see you working. I see you one at a time. Nah, man. Nah. I don't have nothing after that. That. That is. That is flat on, man. Just the. The connection of, you know, continuing to prepare, getting confidence, continuing to, you know, keep going. When you fail, you know that. That's your message for the day. [00:20:30] Speaker B: Yeah. What do they say? Fall seven times, get up eight. All you got to do is get up one more time than they fall. [00:20:39] Speaker A: That's right. That's right. That's right, man. So as you guys are enjoying your week, this is gonna be after the fourth one is dropped. So, you know, all of that good stuff, you know, and if. If you think, you know, get back up, don't. Don't. Don't drown. We're gonna sink a little bit, but we're still gonna try to keep going as well, man. [00:21:01] Speaker B: You know, with swimming, it's fight or fight. There's no. There's no flight. Like, you can't give up, right? That's true. You've probably heard this story, but there's a story. This guy, he was treading water, and a canoe rode up to him, and he's like, hey, you need help? He says, nah, God. God will. God will send help. We're good, or God will save me, right? You've heard this yeah. And then a boat comes up. Hey, you need help? No, God will save me. Then a ship comes up. Hey, you need help? No, God will save me. Well, he. He ended up drowning, right? And he went up, up to heaven and he said, hey, why didn't you save me? He said, I sent you three boats, right? [00:21:41] Speaker A: A canoe. Boat. [00:21:42] Speaker B: When, when you think of it that way, you know there's always an opportunity to be saved. But when it comes to swimming, like, literally, if you stop swimming, you're. You're done, right? So don't stop swimming. Just swim. [00:22:00] Speaker A: There you go. Hey, that's what we're going to end on, y', all, man. We appreciate y'. All. We love y'. All. Till next time, man. Just keep swimming. Peace. Yeah. Boom, boom. [00:22:19] Speaker B: Yeah.
