[00:00:01] Speaker A: What up, what up, what up? Welcome back to the Bad Podcast. You ever notice how thinking too much can have can be the reason why you're stuck?
Let me get you straight. Your mind is actually sabotaging you. Today we're going to blow the lid off that myth with my brother Brad. Overthinking, man, that that sometimes equal procrastination, man. Let's talk about it, brother.
[00:00:20] Speaker B: Blow the lid. Everything difficult that's happened in the past is behind you. Stop dwelling. There's nothing you can do to change it. But you can change everything ahead of you. Every bit of energy you spend focusing on the past, energy you've taken away from building a better future.
[00:00:35] Speaker A: Let's get it.
Are you ready?
[00:00:40] Speaker B: Are you ready?
[00:00:56] Speaker A: What it look like, what it be like, what it do? Back in here, another episode of the Bad Podcast, man. Thank you guys for checking us out, man. We're super excited to come to you Monday or whenever you're listening. Like Brad intro is, you know, good. What do you say? Good morning, good evening, good afternoon, good night, great beautiful world.
Whenever, however you're listening. If you're on your iPhone, take a screenshot of that player, man. If you're on your, your Spotify, take a screenshot of that player, man. Throw it in your stories. You're watching us on YouTube, man. Take a screenshot of that player and throw it in your stories and tag us, man, so you can get the word out. So, Brad, you just put a metal around your neck.
What's going on here?
[00:01:33] Speaker B: Yeah, first and foremost, man, I, I love the energy coming from the other side of the screen this morning. I just feel like some high energy and I'm hurting.
So this is, we're recording Friday, the day after my 24 mile challenge.
And the reason I just put this sucker around my neck is because sometimes, man, you just got to convince yourself that you are stronger than you think. And yesterday I embarked on a fun challenge of 24 straight miles. And I haven't went beyond 13.1 since 2022 with my iron man. And, you know, I hit about 15 miles yesterday I started to walk and, you know, things started to happen in my mind, right?
And it's in those moments where, you know, you, you can't think, you just gotta do. You just got to keep going.
And I thought about this mantra. This is something I talk about my kids a lot.
And so my son, what he does is he sprints up and down the hallway in the morning and he wants to show mom and dad how fast he is and you know, he started getting tired at the end, you know, and. And he looked at me, he says, dad, I don't care how tired I am. I'm gonna keep trying my best. And I was just like, my kids. My son's 4 years old, man, like, in. In you and I experienced this. Our clients experience this. Like, no matter how hard it gets or how. How tired you are, like, just keep giving your best. And I. I don't know how many times I said that out loud on the asphalt, but I'm in pain today. I'm. I'm sore today. I'm. I'm feeling it today, but I am rocking this with some pride. 24 for 2024 challenge. I got my 24 miles in, and my wife picked me up. We went and had a cold, hazy ipa, and I capped the day off. I was. I was hurting. I'm still hurting. I'll be hurting for a few days, but just a very accomplished moment for me, so.
[00:03:16] Speaker A: Well, first of all, brother, congratulations. Let's start there.
Let's start there. Man, that is an amazing feat.
You know, it. It takes, you know, it takes some. Some. Some courage, you know? You know, it takes some. Some grit to. To, you know, they even set that goal, man, you know, and to say it out loud, you know, because I. That's one thing that me and the ladies were talking about when I was in the studio, man, there's so many times, you know, you set goals in private, in your head, but when you say it out loud, man, that, you know, that. That takes to the next level. So hats off to you, brother. That. That's an amazing accomplishment. Y' all know that.
I. I say this here on record. I would never.
I walk 24 miles. I won't run it. I won't run it. But. But no, that. That's amazing, brother. And I mean, and it even goes to, you know, what we're talking about, you know, as far as, like, you know, that mindset you talked about, your. You know, the conversation you were having in your mind, man. So I guess let's. Let's start digging into that a little bit.
[00:04:18] Speaker B: Yeah. You know, and you speak to saying it out loud, you know, and. And a lot of the things that we say out loud, they don't. It's not congruent with the things that we're saying inside of.
And. And I. I think. When. I think that's a lot of the difference. I watched the David Goggins documentary one time, and he did, like, a 200 mile race, and. And it was like 90 degrees, something wild like that. And then when he crossed the finish line, the. The guy's like, wow, you just set our new record. And how did you feel about the heat out there? He's like, I didn't notice it, you know, And I. I think. I think, like, externally you notice it, but some people in process, internally, different.
Um, and I think that's, like, for me, I think that makes the difference a lot of time is how you process things internally. Like, you know, that heat or the pressure or the, the pain, the discomfort. And that's what happened to me yesterday. Like, I. I. I didn't plan this at all. Like, I just decided, like, I. I just posted a video.
[00:05:11] Speaker A: Dude.
[00:05:11] Speaker B: It was. It was a clip from Forrest Gump, and he was sitting in a rocking chair, and he got up, started running, and that was literally me. Yesterday. Adrian was on her way to drop the kids off. I'm like, hey, I think I'm gonna run to 21 bricks today. She's like, what?
Right now?
And, I mean, it was pouring rain. It was 50 degrees. Like, it was. It was a miserable day. And she's like, why? I'm like, why not? You know? And I. But again, like, that processing phase is. Is just different with everybody. And I. I encourage everybody to, you know, when you feel something, go for that something, you know, when you're feeling it, just go for it. Because if you delay, every second you delay is. Is more chance that you do it.
[00:05:54] Speaker A: Yeah. Yeah, that reminds me. And to the, to the faithful listeners that hear all heard all the podcasts, I apologize in advance, but that reminds me of the, the. The Kobe clip, man, where he talks about every summer he writes a contract with himself. He's like, I write a contract with myself that I'mma work, you know, do this. I'm gonna do these workouts. I'm gonna do this and do this. He was like, because he. Does he do that? Because we're the best negotiators when it comes to ourselves. And you're talking about, you know, when you feel it, do it. Like, act on the impulse. If you don't, boy, that, that, that, that. That little self come on your shoulder, man.
He's like, you know, Brad, like, yeah, you can do it Saturday, man. Saturday, it might be better. You know, it's raining. You know, you didn't plan it, man. Did you even stretch this morning? Like, Brad, like, you know what, what do you, you know, you, You. You automatically, the more you kind of, you know, ponder on it and, and let it, you know, mo, sometimes, man, you, you'll talk yourself out of it. And that's, that's why, you know, the late, great Kobe talked about making that contract. Because you, if, if you do that, you put it in stone, you say, okay, I'm gonna keep this no matter what my mind says, because your mind will try to talk you out of it every single time, you know, no matter what it is. I mean, and that goes, that goes for anything that you do, not just on a physical aspect, but even, like, with your career and whatever, you know, you, you, you'll say, man, you know, I, I should. I should try for that, that new position. Then your mind was like, oh, but you don't have enough schooling. You don't have enough, you know, experience, and, you know, that person is way better. You know, your mind immediately just kind of try to play those tricks on you, man. So I love the, the thought of, you know, when you feel it, you know, go ahead and make that move. Go ahead and jump.
[00:07:40] Speaker B: We become expert negotiators when it, oh, for sure.
When we're in discomfort, it's like, you know, you, you could probably take the foot off the gas. And I, I think that's why a lot of people get, you know, caught up in, in delay and in contemplation, because we get ourselves to the crossroads of, of discomfort and, and perseverance, and we would rather just, you know, accept where we're at instead of acting on that impulse, like you said. And I think a lot of us just get caught up in that. And I love the contract idea because if you sign a contract, like, you, you ink it in paper or whatever, you make it physical. You know, I've mentioned this a hundred times, but I, I literally have sheets of paper around my house, like, hey, this is your goal. Just a little reminder, like, this is where you want to be. This is what you want to accomplish. And I, I, I reassess per quarter. You know, I, I'll throw up a new piece of paper every quarter I got. You know, I got a piece of paper. I got a thousand sticky notes. I'm a sticky note.
[00:08:37] Speaker A: Listen, every time you say that, I think about the, that clip from Bruce Almighty when he was trying to organize the prayer.
He's like, stickiness in the whole house was like, yeah, I'm gonna have to, I'm gonna have to find that clip and make a, Make a real. When we talk about this part, that.
[00:08:54] Speaker B: No, dude, it's legit like that. That's how my office look. It's it's sticky notes everywhere, you know, reminders, but also just those mantras, man. And yesterday speak to the 24 miles. I, I say this sometimes my class. I, I say something as simple as mantras kick in. And I think a lot of people kind of downplay this, this, this, this simple phrase like mantras kick in. And when I say that out loud, I'll be out in the asphalt or I'll be on the treadmill doing, like, my personal workouts. I'll be in the gym doing my personal workouts. Mantras kick in. And in that moment, I know it's time. Like, that's, that's my. That's my rocket fuel to say affirm yourself, you know, and, and just say, Just say strong phrases like I can, I will, I must, I am strong enough. You're strong. You know, just start to affirm yourself and fill your brain with positivity, because if you can flood out all that toxic energy and all that, that negativity, all that doubt, that that's how you're gonna persevere. But as soon as you let that doubt seep in there, like, the longer you have doubt and fear and all those things in your mind, the less chance you are going to have to follow through with those things.
[00:10:05] Speaker A: No, absolutely, man. Absolutely. And I like, you know, because, you know, you having the mantras and stuff. I think Alicia said, you know, one time, like, you know, write it on a paper and put it in a jar and, like, randomly grab, you know, one when you, you know, when you need a little encouragement, when you randomly grab one at the jar, you know, you feeling down, just like, hit that jar up and, you know, write down your accomplishment down the, like, one of my favorite, and actually I had it on a shirt was I am a warrior. Because in my mind, you know, you know, warriors, they, they, they, you know, they persevere. You know, they.
When you say you're a warrior, you're not saying it's going to be easy. You're saying that I'm going to get through it, man. And so I just remember Alicia talking about putting the, you know, right now, you know, encouragement, accomplishments, you know, mantras, whatever, and putting it in the jar and just going to. Hitting that bad boy up, rattle around and just seeing what you pull out and let that process in your mind and let that, you know, continue to say that. But then I also, because my mind is, I, I think in movies and in, in comedy and everything. I also remember Dave Chappelle said he did that with, With With. With punch lines. And he's like, he randomly pulled out a punchline and he literally built his whole thing, his old series around that punchline at the very, very end. Like. But he read it at the beginning.
[00:11:27] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:11:27] Speaker A: So this is way off topic, but just goes to like, the genius of Deja. But I can't repeat the punchline because, you know, we. We don't have the explicit eg13 here. Yeah, yeah, you know, but he read it at the beginning and he ended the show with the punchline stuff. But anyway, that was off topic, but it just, you know, just goatness going on, I guess.
[00:11:45] Speaker B: Yes, yes, I. I have nothing to say to that, although I'm a huge Dave Chappelle fan.
But you. You mentioned something about a warrior, and, And Bruce Lee said the.
A successful warrior is just an average human being with laser focus.
And dude, that I. I read that years ago and that just like, hit different because, like, a lot of us average folks think that we can't be warriors or think that we can't be successful warriors. And the reason that we don't think we can be successful warriors is because we don't have laser focus. Like, we start heading down the path to success. We start heading down the path to greatness. And what happens?
I'm distracted. You know, this distraction. Exactly. And I'm a squirrel guy. You know, when I'm. When I'm. When I'm doing something, I'm like, you know, it. It takes me off my game. But you notice it too. Yes. How many times do I say that? I. I don't know how many times I say that, you know, but. And. And you can feel it too. Like, man, you. You are deep in thought and you are laser. Like, you're locked in, dialed in. And then something happens over here, and it takes your focus over there and. And then you come back, you think you're going to be as dialed in and you're like, lost my. I lost my train of thought. I don't know where I'm at. You know, the same can be applied to fitness. The same can be applied to profession. Like, when you're dialed in, like, you feel like a warrior, you know, but then as soon as you hear the. The external commotion and the hustle and bustle in the world, you start to be like, over here, over there, over here, and then you have no idea where you're going. I don't know how many people I've met in my life where they are the most talented individual I know, but. Because they're looking over here, and they're trying to get there.
I mentioned this all the time, man. I used to take my son to this. This grocery store to get an apple. This was like our thing when we were, when he was younger, when we were younger, when we were both younger and we go get an apple and he was just learning how to walk, and we'd be holding hands, and he would do one of three things. He'd be looking over his shoulder, distracted by, you know, a dump truck or something behind us. He would trip, he would fall, you know, he'd get hurt and, and get emotional. My, my, my. That's fitness. That's life. If he was looking ahead, you know, looking at a semi or looking at, you know, something cool way up ahead. All right. Both looking over your shoulder and looking way, way, way ahead. I'm all about having goals and milestones ahead of you.
[00:14:04] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:14:05] Speaker B: But to reach those goals and milestones, you got to be dialed in on what's on your feet, like, right here. And that's the only way we would successfully reach the grocery store every single day is when he would focus right here. If he was looking there, boom. If he was looking there, boom. So where is your focus? Is it here, is it there? Is it back there? Like, you got to be dialed in on what is, not what's going to be, not what was. You got to be dialed on what is.
[00:14:30] Speaker A: Yeah, no, that's. And that's something that's not talked about a lot, you know, especially when it comes to, like, just motivation and things, you know, you know, everybody says, you know, don't look behind you and the, the rear view mirror smaller than the windshield. You know, everybody says that, but a lot. Not a lot of people don't talk about the, you know, forecasting too far, like, looking too far ahead and, and actually getting. And that distracts a lot of people. And it also, it causes fear. You know, it causes fear when people see, you know, the big thing that they're trying to accomplish and then they see where they are currently. It was like, you know, you. You got to stay. You got to focus on where you are, you know, because I could. I can definitely apply that to. To, you know, bodybuilding, because, you know, when you're. When you're several weeks out, you're like, bruh, like, I can't. I can't get on stage like this.
Like, like, man, I hope Eric got a secret or something, because I don't know what you know, but you. That's. That's the mindset man, you, you see, you see the guys on stage, you see the guys that, you know, that are in peak week that, you know, already leaned out and all the things, and you look at yourself, it's like, man, I'm not. And, and if you get folks, you, It'll cause fear, it'll cause doubt, you know, but you got to be present in where you are, where you are in the process. You know how you're feeling. You got to be right there in a moment in order to keep going because you, it's so easy, so easy to look too far ahead and just, you know, be distracted, be, be nervous and be discouraged, you know, and so that I can definitely attest to that personally, you know, because, you know, even right now, because I'm, I'm not technically in prep yet, I actually will start next month. But, you know, I, I was like, man, like, got some work to do.
[00:16:14] Speaker B: And, and I think Gary Vee says, man, just, you know, what's he say? Be obsessed. Be obsessed with the process, be obsessed with the work. And I think that ties into all this. And I, I read this documentary, I was watching this documentary on climbing Mount Everest, and it is like low key on my bucket list. You know, how, you know how I am, man? I didn't like low key. Low key. It's there.
[00:16:32] Speaker A: I know.
[00:16:32] Speaker B: I don't know.
But this, this individual was saying, you know, when you get to Base Camp, which is already like a big accomplishment if you reach Base Camp, like, you, you're not even, you're not even starting the trek yet, but you reach Base Camp, like you're a less than 1 percenter just by going to Base Camp.
[00:16:47] Speaker A: Sure.
[00:16:47] Speaker B: But when this individual got to Base Camp, he started to think about all the past success he's had with training to get to the peak. And, and he thought about all those tough moments that he had to get to, to Base Camp and all those things behind him, he started to work himself up. He's like, man, this is going to be easy. And then all of a sudden he got, he got comfortable, right? And then it started to. Then the fear started to grow in or come in because he started to think about all the documentaries he's watched and everything he's read about reaching the peak and like, how all the, all the hardship and adversity is ahead of him. So because he wasn't at, like, mentally at Base Camp, like I'm always telling our folks, man, be. Get back to base. Like, always get back to base. Don't think about all Your past failure, your past victory. Get back to base and don't think about reaching the pink peak of Everest. Be at your base and, and by getting to the peak, it's going to take some trial and tribulation, but it's going to take one step after another after another and be. And be laser focused. Because if you're reaching, if you're thinking about that peak and you're, you're, you're trekking across one of those darn ladders, man. They, they use aluminum ladders to, like, climb across like that, like, valleys and gorges. I don't know if you ever watched anything or seen anything on, on Mount Everest, but I mean, you got to be next level nuts. Like, I know I'm, I know I'm nuts.
Yeah.
[00:18:07] Speaker A: Next level nuts.
[00:18:08] Speaker B: I ain't next level. Like, I'm watching these. They have aluminum ladders and they like, like, they extend them. They like, they throw them over and like, they're like tied off and everything. And there's ropes and harnesses involved. But anyways, if, again, what. I'm just getting off track here. But no, if you're focused, like on the peak of Mount Everest, you're gonna slip off that ladder. Like, you're gonna, you're gonna, you're going to fail. You're going to fall. If your focus is anywhere else but right here, you got to stay dialed in on what is, bro.
[00:18:39] Speaker A: Listen, you want to go ever, ever, ever, ever, never, never.
Listen, I don't want to climb on the top of my house like, there's a toy up there right now that I hadn't got to yet.
[00:18:51] Speaker B: It will stay there.
[00:18:53] Speaker A: I'm gonna get it eventually. But yeah, Everest. Nah, not on the list. Be not on the list. But, you know, speaking of getting back to basics, man, when it comes to your nutrition, you definitely want to make sure you stick to real solid foods, man. And so we're going to play this quick commercial from E2M Kitchen, and that's really how you get back to the basics.

[00:19:42] Speaker B: Code that mine went away. It was only.
[00:19:44] Speaker A: Okay, yours went away because I was going to get on you. I was like, that was the episode. I was running after the mail lady and he snuck it in, like, my code. We got our code, but I got my code.
[00:19:56] Speaker B: Hello, Keith. I plugged that real.
[00:19:57] Speaker A: You plugged it in? Man, I, I saw it, I saw it when I was editing. I was like, throw it in his code now. That's cool, man. But, yeah, bad pod. Get you 30 off your first box. But I, I really, I joke about, you know, Mount Everest and things like that. Like, like, you know, and in all honesty, like, I have no desire, but, like, I admire, you know, the drive you say, you know, it's, it's slightly on the bucket list, man. I don't know, man. I, I, I see it in the cars, man. I think, I think if anybody could do it, that's in my circle, it is Bradley Dean. That's for sure.
[00:20:56] Speaker B: I'm tired. I'm tired thinking about it.
I've watched way too many scary documentaries on it. Okay, I'll give it a shot. I see, man. I've seen too many wild things. Like, they get up there and, like, freeze to death. Like, they, there's, there's, there's, there's people that are deceased from, from bottom to top along the way, and they, and they can't rescue these people. They, they lose them. Like, they, they, they're off.
Yeah, I might just stay, I might stay at base.
[00:21:23] Speaker A: Yeah.
Yeah. Don't do it, man.
Can't lose Uncle Be on the mountain, man. I mean, it'd be epic, but.
[00:21:30] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:21:30] Speaker A: Nah, it'd be a story.
[00:21:31] Speaker B: I'll, I'll stick to the iron man and the. In the long distance running for now.
[00:21:35] Speaker A: Listen, if that would happen, I have to go out there. I have to Clinton flag.
[00:21:39] Speaker B: Appreciate. Yeah, Mr. D's, man. I'll be out there frozen. And yeah. Sunday thunder.
[00:21:46] Speaker A: Boom.
Yeah. Hit him with the boom. Plant the flag.
Yeah. No, that's, that's fire.
[00:21:52] Speaker B: I haven't do you know today. So let's catch. Okay. Do you know.
[00:21:55] Speaker A: Let's do it, man. Let's, let's hit the video. Bring it back. The classic. If you're new to the podcast, this is what we call the. Do you know did you know? Moment. This is something that you have not heard online anywhere. We usually do it with our guests, but Brad got one today. So after this video, Brad, let's hit it.
[00:22:12] Speaker B: Do you know?
[00:22:17] Speaker A: All right, Brad, what's the do you know or did you know thing that you need to tell us?
[00:22:21] Speaker B: Well, so on July 20th, our New England folk has been screaming and shouting and saying, hey, you gotta come and Visit. So on July 20, I'm making a visit to East Lime, Connecticut. I am putting on the first ever Sunday sizzle workout. Sunday Thunder is no longer but Sunday Sizzle. It's going to be the first one. But July 20th, East Lime, Connecticut. Come out and visit.
[00:23:08] Speaker A: I like it, man. I like it. That's right after the.
The. The New Jersey. So you're making a road trip for the north?
[00:23:15] Speaker B: Yes, sir.
[00:23:16] Speaker A: Okay, that's what's up, man.
No, I love it. I love it. So you guys in that area definitely find out, get the information, check out Uncle B and.
And for sure. So that's actually my anniversary weekend, so we'll be around, but we won't be up there. So.
[00:23:36] Speaker B: Hey, man, priorities.
[00:23:38] Speaker A: Yeah, man. Yeah, man, 17 years.
[00:23:40] Speaker B: So, hey, congratulations to you, my friend.
[00:23:43] Speaker A: Yeah, man, we getting there. We're getting there.
[00:23:45] Speaker B: Commitment, commitment.
[00:23:47] Speaker A: There you go. There you go. There you go. For sure. All right, y' all, so listen, first off, we always love and appreciate all the love and all the posts and all the comments.
Drop in the comments. Some love on YouTube that helps us, like, share all the things, man, we super appreciate, we greatly appreciate you guys, man. But, you know, when you get feedback, you see people actually enjoying, you know, what we're doing, it makes it that much better, man. So. All right, Brad, close this out.
[00:24:22] Speaker B: Hey, man, everything that was, everything that's going to be, it'll all fall into place if you focus on what is.
[00:24:28] Speaker A: That's it, baby. Let's get.
