[00:00:00] Speaker A: What up, what up? What up? Welcome back to the Bad podcast, Brad and Dwayne. And here, my brother, Brad Bradley. What are we talking about today, my friend? [00:00:09] Speaker B: I'm going simple with it today. To change your life, you have to change yourself. To change yourself, you got to change your mindset. [00:00:16] Speaker A: Let's get it. Are you ready? Are you ready? Speaking of change, I couldn't let brag out do me with that and the shade. So if you listen to the podcast, make sure you subscribe to our YouTube channel, man, so you can see that quick wardrobe thing I just did there. But, man, super excited, man, to be in here. Another episode of the Bad podcast. Brad, man, this is the highlight of my week, brother. When we get to get behind the microphone, we get to motivate people and ourselves at the same time. Because a lot of times we're talking to ourselves and we're using our own examples and. And I. I'm just. I'm grateful, man, that we can. We can call this a living, brother, for sure. [00:01:10] Speaker B: Yeah, yeah. 100. I. I like the wardrobe. Get up on. On the off state. Behind the state behind the stage, man, that was good. Quick, and it was nice. Seamless. [00:01:20] Speaker A: Yeah, yeah, man, look, change your mindset. I changed my. Change my appearance, baby. [00:01:26] Speaker B: Change the mindset. Change the appearance. You know, when you just spoke to, you know, just the fact that we are literally sitting here talking to each other, but we're talking about our own lives, you know, and yes, you know, that's one of the. One of the big compliments I get with E2M is, hey, man, like, you're really motivational. You have good words that inspire us. But, you know, and a lot of the questions that I get asked are, where do you come up with these stories? And a lot of the stories that I have are, I'm just looking literally in the mirror. I'm looking at the cell phone. I'm talking to myself. And, you know, between you and I and. And all the other coaches, we all have those. Those poor days. We all have those days that we get knocked down and, you know, we choose to get back up. But it's. It's. It really is a mindset. You don't need a new beginning. You don't need another chance. You've had plenty of chances, and, you know, another chance is not going to get you, you know, going down the path that you want to go on. You just need to change your mindset. You know, the. The real that we just dropped this past week. So it was last week. Now it was something along the lines of, I'm not strong. Well, you know, you cross that out and you start to say, I'm getting stronger, right? Like, I, I can't do 10 push ups. I, I can do five push ups and then five modify. So it's all about changing your mindset and change your approach to all the, all the things that you do. And this is, this isn't just fitness. This is a, this is applicable across the board, man. Then, absolutely. And yeah, so let's take it. [00:02:50] Speaker A: I love it, man. You know, the, the, you know, it always. Everything starts in the mind, you know, you know, all. Whether it's a positive outcome or negative outcome, it starts in the mind first. You, you, you formulate it first there. And you know, I, I tell my, my, my baby girl because, you know, she's going through the stage of like, nightmares and, you know, being scared and, and I tell her, like, it's like, yo, you, you control it. You know, it's your dream. You can be like, wait a minute, I ain't she. And it was hard for her to wrap her mind around it, but it's really, that is really like that. Like, you know, because even going to bed, she's like, I'm thinking about scary things. Like, no, you can think about, you know, green hills with clouds floating by and, you know, Papa Smurf and spongebob dancing around. That's the things you could think about, you know, and even in, in the good book, man, it gives you a list of things to think about. It says, think on these things. You know, what's good, what's prosperous, what's, you know, what's profitable. And so that's where it all begins, man. And I know we're going to deep dive it, man, but I just want to just, you know, just on a, A, everyday level dealing with my, my baby girl, like, you know, trying to help her understand that she controls her mindset. Like, she can determine whether it's. I'm gonna be nervous when I go to bed or I'm gonna think about the fun things. [00:04:08] Speaker B: Yeah, yeah. And the mind, the mind is extremely powerful. And I'm gonna tell a story. This is, this is a story five years ago, I think this happened. And it's, it's, it's all. It all starts with, with what's between your two ears. And what had happened is the news started streaming across all the broadcasting stations, the radio, everything. And they said, oh, this, this storm's coming in out of the, out of the south. It's going to be the worst storm that we ever saw in history. And this, that and the other. And you know, the mind does powerful things. And. And so what had happened is our superintendent, she had canceled school without even. The storm had hitting yet. Had hit yet. And you know, and because she had formulated this hypothetical, well, what if. Yeah, we all, we all try to attempt to come to school, and what if the storm wipes us off the face of the earth? And so the following day comes and this, this storm was supposed to hit. We literally. It was sunny, it was blue skies. The storm missed us by 50 miles. The roads were bare. There was nothing on the roads. But because that, that formulated story had been in her mind, it had been brewing and stewing all day. She let that hypothetical scenario dictate what she was going to do. And how is that applicable to life? How is that applicable to fitness? Well, we do it every day. Well, what, what if I go to the gym and what if I can't run that five miles? What if I can't bench press that 220? What if I. Well, what if you can. You got it. You have to start switching that mindset. You have to start. Start believing and, and the person that you can become. And it starts with, it just starts with your, with your personal beliefs. [00:05:45] Speaker A: Yeah. Yeah. You know, me, Me and Brad, we're almost like a married couple now, because I know that I'm familiar with that story, you know, and, you know, and I, I brought up, you know, when I used to work in the buses, my. One of my jobs was to check the roads whenever there was. And, you know, we're in the Carolinas, man, so, you know, we get, we get a couple little dust, you know, we shut it down. Especially if that was my job, I was like, man, close it down. Let me go home. But no, that, that's amazing, man. I mean, and, you know, just the fact that that one decision or that one thing affected so many other people. I'm sure the kids enjoy it, I'm sure the teachers enjoy, you know, you have to make it up, but other than that, you know, but just letting, Letting your mind take you there and, you know, a really good example of that, you know, and it might be a little controversial, but just the pandemic, man, like, you know, how people mine, you know, originally there was so much fear and so much, you know, and then things kind of, you know, settle down, but that people sitting around watching the news and I, I see you got a point. But before you get to that point, hold on to it. Because that also reminds me of 9 11. Like when 911 happened, people were going into depression. They were like just sitting and watching and just letting that, that, that thing, you know, it was dictating their mood and just, you know, it just put them in a sour placement. But go ahead. I see. [00:07:14] Speaker B: No. Yeah. Dude, this, this is so, this is so wild because this just happened in my life. So my dad, he's a, you know, he's an all country boy and you know, he's, he's hands on. He's. He's a blue collar worker and so he works for an apartment home. He's. He's the manager of all these apartment complex complexes. And there was a bat in his, in one of his complexes. I'm like deathly afraid of bats. Bats, snakes, spiders. No thanks. Like just. No, like a rat with, with wings. Like. No, I'm not. No. So there was a bat in the, in one of his complexes and he, he was in charge of getting that bat out. He thought it was dead. So what he did is he put a paper towel over it. He went to grab it and, and it bit through the, the, the paper towel and it bit him. And you know, bats carry rabies. They're, they're known to carry rabies. And so he went to the doctor's office and said, hey, this is what happened. So he went through the series of tests and everything and in the 24 to 36 hours following his, his bat bite, he was, he was sick to his stomach. He was sick in his mind. He thought he, he thought he had caught something from this bat. Right? [00:08:26] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:08:26] Speaker B: And then, and then the test results that came in. This is negative. Right. And all, all of a sudden mood changes. [00:08:33] Speaker A: Everything was good. [00:08:35] Speaker B: Right. And that's, that's what happens quite a bit is, is, you know, and, and this used to happen in the, in the COVID era too, with. [00:08:42] Speaker A: Sure. [00:08:42] Speaker B: When you were told you had Covid, your demeanor changed, your energy levels changed and yeah, you know, we know the placebo effect of energy drinks and all that. I, I told the story 100 times and I would tell it one more. 100 people, a thousand people. I don't know the number. A thousand people, 800 of them had a placebo energy drink. It was nothing but a sparkling juice with, with sugar in it. 200 had the energy drink. Well, across the board, it was like 85 of people saw a spike in their energy level. It's, it's, it's, it's mindset, it's mindset. [00:09:18] Speaker A: Oh, that's so funny. That's so funny, man. You know, so I got a couple of different ways I'm gonna go back to this one with your pops, man, because I. First of all, I'm just surprised. It's just scared of bass and stuff, like. Because Mr. Volcano Hopping, you know, skydiving. Nasty little aficionado, you know. But. But second, I would. I would see pops put a napkin down. I would have kicked that sucker out or get a broom or something. I wouldn't have grabbed it up. You know, that's. That's another thing. But, you know, just that feeling he had, you know, that day. And I don't even know if I told the story, but if I did, whatever, just enjoy it again. There's an old story about, you know, the little boy, you know, he would. He. He went to Mom's like, you know, mom, you know, grandpa is going to die. It's like, no, he's fine. And like, you know, a day later, grandpa dies, and then he goes to Mom's, like, I had a dream that dad died, and dad heard it, and he had the worst day ever. He was just waiting for the amber to fall. Got home, saw his wife, crowns. What's wrong, baby? It's like the male. The milkman dropped dead this morning. [00:10:34] Speaker B: I've never heard that, but that is. [00:10:35] Speaker A: Oh, okay. Yeah, man. That's a classic right there. That's a classic. Oh, my God. But is that mindset. He. He. He thought. He thought it was his last day, man, and he just wore on him so much, and, you know, and. And. And it's just amazing what your mind can do. It can make you sick. It can make you nauseous. You know, it can. It can do all of those things, but because it can do all of those negative things, what can it do on the positive side? [00:11:01] Speaker B: B. [00:11:02] Speaker A: Like, what. What. What can you unlock by making. Training your mind to be positive? Like what? Like, because it kind of goes to the energy drink. Like. Yeah, yeah, they thought they had some energy. Their mind told them they had energy, they got energy. So that's what I need to tell my wife, because she said she need. Angel. Hey, just need to think. You need some energy. [00:11:21] Speaker B: Yes, I. Yes, I can. Yes, I will. Hey, you know. You know where. You know where that. That mindset shift comes in is. Is. Is daily affirmations, man. Tell yourself that. You can tell yourself that you're worthy. Tell yourself that you are. You know, that's one of the big things, affirmation on the daily. That's how I start my day. I wake up, I write some things in a journal. I, I say things to myself, I say things out loud. I look in the mirror, I talk to myself. I'm, I'm, I'm a, I don't know, I'm funny like that. I like to talk to myself. But I think daily affirmations is key. Journaling is huge. Sitting down in silence, you know, and, yeah, being, being, expressing some gratitude, you know, and I, I think a lot of people miss out on that because it's, it's, you know, we're in a fast paced world and it's, it's, it's loud and you know, there's a lot of commotion and all the things. And sometimes it's hard to quiet that noise. Sometimes it's hard to sit down for five minutes and just relish in the things that you got going for yourself. I mean, I, you know, 10, 10 years ago I couldn't run 13 miles. Now I run 13 miles every week and, and you know, I'm doing the biking thing and same can be applied with your life. Like 10, 15 years ago there was something that you, you, you never thought was a reality. [00:12:34] Speaker A: Absolutely. [00:12:35] Speaker B: You know, and, yeah, and here we are. [00:12:38] Speaker A: Yeah. Because I actually this is Monday that you listen to this, but Thursday, Wednesday night, I hung out with a guy that I went to college with. And, and you know, we were hanging out, talking and, and he was talking about how we was in college. You know, I didn't go to the gym. Like, I, I, I wasn't playing sports. I was just a student. I was like, why y', all, why y' all go to the gym? Like there ain't nobody telling us to go, whatever, whatever, you know, but he was, he was a guy that, he was in the gym all the time. Whatever, whatever. And you know, that's, man, almost 20 years ago now, now we flip flop now I'm in the gym all the time. And he, he never goes. But it's just amazing. Like you said 15 years ago, I would have never, like, if you would have told me 15 years ago that I'll be getting up 3am going to the gym, lifting weights five days a week. You know, I'll be like, who is that guy? Like, because I didn't, I didn't, I didn't like working out even when I was an athlete. Like I was the mind, old school mindset. I play basketball, man, I don't need to be strong, you know? You know, this is all before the, all the tapes can't see if the tapes of Jordan training would have came out when I, I would have been. [00:13:45] Speaker B: Heavy in the gym. Oh yeah. [00:13:46] Speaker A: Whatever he did, I was gonna do. Yeah, but they didn't come out till later. But yeah, I didn't, I thought, you know, because, you know when you lift, your shot's kind of off. You gotta readjust. [00:13:56] Speaker B: Oh yeah. [00:13:56] Speaker A: I was like, man, want to mess up my shot? You know, I thought I had a nice little three, you know what I'm saying? So, you know, and it's that mindset and, and there's no way. If you'd have told me that, I'd be like, yeah, right. Ain't no way. Ain't no way. Dwayne's getting up 3:00am, going to a gym, you know, today. Push them 10 boys nine times, baby. Yeah, let's get it. 100 boys nine times. It's Monday, so I did it on Friday, but okay, okay. Yeah, yeah. Just, it's, it's amazing just to think like how far we come and you. [00:14:30] Speaker B: Know, I, I like to talk about your shot with lifting because that was something that we were always told, right? We were always coach, that hey, yeah, you can't lift on game day because it screws you shot. And I remember that, that, that was like, hey, you, you can't touch the weights on game day. I, I remember reading an article about Michael lifting on game day. [00:14:49] Speaker A: Yes. [00:14:50] Speaker B: Go and do a bunch of workouts on game day. And I'll never forget this. D. So this is Gus Mac. You know what the Gus Macker is? [00:14:55] Speaker A: It's a. Oh yeah. [00:14:56] Speaker B: Well, for anybody that doesn't know, it's a three on three basketball tournament. Big time, big time basketball tournament. Every year they'd come into town and it was, it was the summer of 2000. It was the summer before my wife and I started dating. So 2011. [00:15:10] Speaker A: 10. [00:15:11] Speaker B: 2010. And my brother begged me to play and I'm like, I, I don't really want to, but sure, okay. And so I read this article. It was in April and in June we had that Gus Macker and we had like an 8 o' clock game. So I woke up at 6 in the morning. I did a little mini lift sesh. You know, first time ever lift before a basketball game. [00:15:29] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:15:29] Speaker B: And we played to 15 points. I had 13 out of the 15. I'm not a baller. I'm not a baller. [00:15:34] Speaker A: Okay. [00:15:35] Speaker B: Out of the 15 points. I'll never, I'll never forget that because my, because I only played one year High school ball. You know, I played hockey, so I, it was same season. So that one year, like I, I didn't touch the weights. But that one day, I'll never forget me, I, I lifted weights before the game, two hours before the game, went out there, dropped 13 out of 15 points. [00:15:54] Speaker A: That's crazy. [00:15:56] Speaker B: Yeah, yeah, yeah. It's all, it's all, you know, what you, what you believe in, what you, what you tell yourself and for sure. [00:16:03] Speaker A: And, and that, that's also mental B. Because someone told us that and we believed it and we, we applied it. And I mean, I ain't gonna lie now, on days we didn't have games that we lifted them. First couple of shots you got to get. [00:16:17] Speaker B: Oh yeah. Oh yeah. [00:16:18] Speaker A: You know, and that, that phase of it make you think that's what it is across the board and that's not it. You just need to warm up, readjust, you know, whatever. But it's just amazing how, how much the mind controls, bro. Like that, that mini computer, man. [00:16:33] Speaker B: Yeah. I mean, so you, you talk about that first couple of shots, right? I mean, that's, that's your warm up. That's, that, that's part of the routine. That's your preparation. When you walk into the gym, you don't pick up the Hyundai boys. What you do is you start with the 20s, you start with the 30s, you start with the. And then all of a sudden you're doing the Hyundai's. You don't, you don't go to work and start working on the biggest project you can think of. No, you can. Got to go in, you got, you got to test the waters. You got to get a cup of coffee, you know, Put your, put your feet on the ground before you go for the hundies. Put your feet on the ground before you go for that jump shot like you. And, and that comes down to expectation. That's. Life is all about expectation and adjusting your expectation. Don't, don't adjust your dial, don't adjust your trajectory, adjust your expectation. Like, okay, I'm not, I'm not there yet. Yeah, I'm not going to change the mission. I'm just gonna change my, my expectation. Maybe I'm not there today, but maybe I can get there tomorrow, bro. [00:17:24] Speaker A: Okay, you hit on something, man, because I've been, I've been kind of accountability coaching lately and in that I'm trying to help because you know, when we, we brag on each one, each one, the eight weeks, it does magic, bro. Like there's, there's nothing, nothing I've experienced like it, you know, but if you're outside of that program and you're trying to do lifestyle or whatever, you have to change your expectation. And I literally pretty much preached on this yesterday to, to a friend of mine that I'm, you know, trying to help with accountability. You know, you can't have the expectation of a really strict, you know, closed end diet when you're not doing that. Like you, okay, you're being a little flexible because you want to be, you know, you want to be more flexible. Now you need to change expectation from what you did in eight weeks, change it and expand it out a little bit more. There's nothing wrong with that, right? There's nothing wrong with a slow process. You know, we, we, we grew because of a rapid process. And you know, some people needed that kind of shock value and it was great for its time. But there's nothing wrong with a gradual process. And then when it comes to building muscle, you don't have a choice. Like there is no, there is no shortcut to build a muscle. There is zero. You, it. Muscle is a long game, no matter what, you know, and, but weight loss, you can kind of, you know, there's different ways to speed that up. But if you, if you, if you change your expectation like you mentioned, man, if you change how, and, and so that prevents you from getting frustrated. You know, I think same, same guy with the, the, the, the graveyard being the wealthiest land miles and Ro, he said when, when expectation is unknown, frustration is inevitable. Like when you don't know what, what to expect, you're going to be frustrated, man. When you change expectation, try to, you know, think long term, then it takes down the frustration because you're not hitting something by some imaginary time frame that you made up, right? [00:19:28] Speaker B: Yeah. And, and you know, we do need a time frame, but why is it so concrete or why is it so etched in stone? Why, why does it have to be eight weeks? Why does it have to be six weeks? Why does it have to Be 12 weeks? Like, you know, on, on the weight of 10 pounds, you still had to lose one pound, like exactly that, that's, that's where you gotta start. Hey, I, I want to lose £20 or I want to lose £50. I want to make a million dollars in a year. Whatever that, whatever that goal is for you, you have to make the first one. Before you can get to the goal you have to lose, you got to make a dollar. [00:19:56] Speaker A: That's it. So true, bro. So true. Good stuff. [00:19:59] Speaker B: It's them it stems from you. It stems from you find people. So, you know, I think that's what we can leave them with is d. Is, you know, adjust your expectation. Don't adjust your mission. £50 is the goal. Don't. Don't leave that goal, all right? Just. Just. Just adapt, evolve, and, you know, accept the fact that, hey, 50 pounds is going to be a. It's going to be a journey. It's going to be a hard journey, and that's what makes it worth it. [00:20:22] Speaker A: Absolutely. And that's the closing, y'. All. No, no, real talk, man. [00:20:28] Speaker B: We. [00:20:28] Speaker A: We appreciate y' all tuning into the Bad podcast, man. Like I said, it's such a joy. And we. We love the feedback because. Continue to share, post in the group. You know, there's so many folks that. That do it, man. People pay to hear stuff like this, and you're getting it absolutely free, and we love to do it, and we wouldn't have it any other way, man. So definitely want to shout you guys out on that. [00:21:00] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:21:01] Speaker A: All right, Brad Fisher, clothes, brother. [00:21:02] Speaker B: One last thing. I am giving out a book, so I'm gonna. I'm gonna be drawing, I guess, the. I guess next week, so I'm going to be giving out a prep, prep, repeat book. Starts with one pound. Starts one dollar. It starts with one bullet. Let's get it. [00:21:34] Speaker A: One step late. Yeah. Boom, boom. Yeah.
