[00:00:10] Speaker B: We're going to talk about fear. We're going to talk about fun. The two F's.
[00:00:14] Speaker A: Fear and fun.
[00:00:15] Speaker B: Turn it to page 96. Please rise. Turn it to page 96. If you find yourself on the sidelines of life, hesitant to engage in challenges that could lead to profound growth, I urge you to reconsider. Grab hold of the opportunity to step outside of your comfort zone, set audacious goals and pursue them with fervor. The challenges you take on, like the peaks you climb, are not simply obstacles. They are stepping stone stones to a richer, more meaningful existence.
[00:00:44] Speaker A: That boy is deep. Let's get it.
Are you ready?
[00:00:49] Speaker B: Are you ready?

And I like to also start the show before I let Brad talk. I told you that the Eagles are going to win.
My numbers, my numbers were all. I, I thought it was gonna be a tightest score. I was telling my buddies after they passed 28, I was like, oh, there go my, my numbers. But yeah, man, that was, that was something to, to behold, man. I don't, I don't think the world knew it was coming. There was a few people, you know, all the commentators, you know, hindsight's 20 20. Oh, yeah, they had the best defense.
They just knew it. But yeah, just want to put that out there for the listeners that caught the prediction. I did predict the Eagles to win. Yeah.
[00:02:40] Speaker B: Fight, Eagles, fight. Man. Dude, I was watching this thing the other day and it Was Michael straight? It wasn't Michael Strahan, but Michael Strahan was on the video. And they walked up to this big time, like, die hard Eagles fan. They're like, hey, do you want to do the chat? And he's like, yeah. E, A, G, E, L, S. Bro.
[00:02:58] Speaker A: Everybody'S been misspelling that thing, man.
That is like, the mayor misspelled it like that. That's where it went viral. Like, the mayor on the podium in front of everybody misspelled it like, you know, and I, I am, I am not picking because I suck at grammar, spelling, all of those. That is not me. But that. Yeah, I think, you know, I think she got caught up, man. You know how you get caught up. Yeah. There ain't no coming back. I would at least try to correct it. Yeah, man, she. Yeah, she got caught up, man.
[00:03:31] Speaker B: She thought she was just trying to own it at that point. Jay.
[00:03:35] Speaker A: Yeah, we already, we already out here now, man. You know, like, spell check the verbiage, man.
[00:03:45] Speaker B: You get, you get in, you get into the zone, and you just kind of forget what you're saying. You forget what you're spelling. I, I, I've been there. I mean, I make up a word every day on, on. In my workouts. Every. Everybody, everybody knows today I, I had a word.
I can't even remember what it was, but I'm like, can somebody fact check that? I don't know if that's a real word, but we rolled with it. We rolled with it.
[00:04:05] Speaker A: Gotta roll with it, man.
I love it, man. All right, man, let's. I got all. I paid all the bills and we had our banter, man. Let's get into today's topic, man. The two F words, man.
[00:04:17] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:04:18] Speaker A: Fun and fear. Let's get it.
[00:04:20] Speaker B: Fun, fun and fear.
Yeah. So I'm coming right off, fresh off a ice cold bath. I just shot a promo video for literally. Literally. I, like, I'm like, I'm still dripping, but I'm shooting a promo video. I'm helping a friend out for a polar plunge up here in New York, and we've always done one in January. We pushed it to March this year, but I'm shooting a promo video, and I, I got to thinking about, like, you know, this idea of the pursuit of fear and the pursuit of fun, and we're naturally wired to seek comfort. We're naturally wired to, like, go in the direction of fun and comfort and all those things. And I want you to think about this and, like, in real life terms, right? So I'm going to give you two examples. Okay, so example one, I give you a couch. I give you a Snuggie. I give you a bowl of ice cream. I give you Netflix. All right? I don't sound too bad.
[00:05:12] Speaker A: Not today.
[00:05:14] Speaker B: Yeah. And then the second thing I give you is a towel and a cold bath. Which one are you picking? Which one are most people picking?
[00:05:24] Speaker A: Definitely Netflix. And the snacks? Netflix and chill, for sure.
[00:05:31] Speaker B: That's easy. That's on the extreme side, right? That's on the extreme side. But the same thing can be applicable to your fitness, to your profession, to your. Your relationships. Right?
Say my wife and I have a fight. What would be easier? Me going up there and. And consoling the situation, having that difficult conversation or saying, you know what, Deuces? I'm gonna go in this direction, and I'm just going to avoid that conversation. And. And that's probably the easier way out. And. And that.
[00:06:02] Speaker A: Oh, froze up on me, boss.
So not only is he cold from the cold plunge, but the Internet is cold as well. All right, you said that was probably the easy way out for them. Go ahead, get back in it.
[00:06:15] Speaker B: Well, that. That's the easy way out. And again, that's. That's how we're naturally programmed, and that's how we've been naturally programmed. Our ent is to seek these comforting situations and comforting circumstances. But oftentimes, if you apply that 3, 6, 9 rule that I use in almost every facet of life, you ask yourself, what is this going to do for me? Or what kind of value is this going to have for me in three, six, nine days, weeks, months, years?
And, you know, I bring up the cold bath because it's fresh on my mind. But there's a lot of health benefits, a lot of recovery benefits. But at the end of that cold bath, what. What do I feel? I feel a little chilly, but I feel accomplished, like I just did something hard, you know? And you can. You can relate because you do the same thing with your workouts, man. You're out there grinding in the gym. What would be easier? Sleeping button 10 times, like, meal prep. Like, I'd rather just go to McDonald's every day and get a cheeseburger and a large fried. A chocolate milkshake, man.
[00:07:12] Speaker A: Listen, listen. You know, so, yeah, no, that. Not. Not to cut you off, man, but, man, like, when you. When you want, you have to be disciplined, man. Like, I. I just. I thought about this yesterday. This now, this fresh on my mind. I was leaving the studio, headed home, man, and you Know, I probably pass 20 fast food restaurants, and I was like, man, I hadn't had that in a while. I hadn't had that in a while. I look, I mean, Bojangles, you know, Popeyes, Bojang James. Yeah, man, Like, I was just thinking about it, like, God, like, how. How it. I mean, and we're gonna. It's gonna be full circle. But, man, how free. How liberating would it be just to pull in that driveway, get whatever I want with a large sweet tea, you know, extra season on the fry? Like, how. How freeing would that be, man? But I. I got goals, man. I gotta be focused and, you know, and not. And I'm not only tempted by, you know, fast food, but service station, man. Like, you know, Reese's, man. Like, they got all. They had all kinds, man. They got the six pack, they got the. The fast break. They got the.
[00:08:24] Speaker B: They got the double Reese's, man.
[00:08:26] Speaker A: Listen, so it's. It's the. Easy is so easy to just turn into one of them spots. Get whatever your heart desire, you know, get the boberry biscuit. You know, get whatever.
[00:08:39] Speaker B: I don't even know what that is. But you don't know what a blueberry biscuit is. Explain. Oh, my God. Explain.
[00:08:45] Speaker A: Listen, y'all, listen. We gotta get. When you come to Charlotte, you got to go to Bojangles, get a boberry biscuit. So what a boberry biscuit is, I'm breaking the story for this. Like, you know, the biscuits, they have, they're really big and soft, right? So what they do is they. They mix in blueberries into the. The dough, and they. They bake the biscuit, and they had actual blueberries in it. Then they put some.
Some. Some frosting on the top, and it's warm, and you eat it with a fork, and it's amazing.
[00:09:18] Speaker B: Boberry.
[00:09:19] Speaker A: Boberry biscuit, bro. You got to get you one. You gotta try. You gotta experience it.
[00:09:23] Speaker B: I'll be on the road and I'm heading your new direction. So I am going to find a Bojang Jays and I'm getting a boboberry biscuit.
[00:09:31] Speaker A: And you need to throw it in the. In the stories and say, listen to this week's episode to find out why.
[00:09:36] Speaker B: I like that, you know, as a matter of fact, Done. Right, Right.
[00:09:41] Speaker A: But no, I. I said all that to say, man. You know, it's. It's the. It's the scenario.
[00:09:46] Speaker B: It's.
[00:09:46] Speaker A: It's easier just to pull in there and grab that. You know, it takes discipline and grind and focus to eat that E2M meal that's been sitting in your, your lunch bag since Tuesday. It takes, it takes discipline to throw that in the microwave instead of pulling over and getting that Boberry or pulling over and getting that Reese's, man, it takes doing that hard thing, man. And you know, I, I'm not going to take a cold, blunt pole plunge, but that in my mind, just, just, just mentally, y'all could tell when the compassion in my voice, I'm still not over it. Like, that was the hard thing for me.
[00:10:23] Speaker B: Yeah. And everybody has a different hard right. Everybody has something that's difficult. Like there's runners in the world, they're like, hey, I get to go for 20 miles. And I'm like this. And, and I'm, I'm somebody that likes the mental, the mental side of things with running. Like the physical side of things. Like, I, I feel physical benefits, but I'm a l, I enjoy lifting, I enjoy lifting weights like you. But you know, being in the run world and having goals as far as half marathons go and that, that sort of thing, like, I don't necessarily enjoy going for my runs and I have people reach out to me all the time. They're like, hey, how does it feel to, to be a good runner? How does it feel to want to go for run? Like, I never, very rarely at least want to go for a 10 mile run and this is going to drop on Monday. So last week, it was last night, you know, as we're recording this, but it was a Wednesday night. I put my kids down, my wife was out to dinner with my mom and my sister and I'm like, you know, I really don't want to do this. I gotta, I gotta travel in a couple days. I got a live in the morning, I got a circuit on Friday morning, but I had a 10 mile, I have a 10 mile run in my training. So I'm like, okay, 8:00 at night, here we go, 10 miles. And that's about an hour and a half for me. 9:30 at night, I'm wrapping up, my legs are killing me. I, I, I jump in the shower, ice cold shower, just to, you know, get that recovery boy. And like, but, but, but to, but to speak to that discomfort and those, those tough decisions. Everybody's born to be great. Everybody's born with greatness within them.
But unfortunately it takes those tough decisions, it takes those tough actions to discover that. And again, you bring that, that Netflix idea back, I would choose, most people would choose Netflix 99 of the time. Over a long distance run, over waking up at 3:30 in the morning every day, over meal prepping, over fasting. All those difficult things that the, you know, the Internet's telling you to do right now, whether it's trendy or not, those things that are going to provide long term value, we run in the opposite direction of those. Because fear, doubt, you know, worrisome of judgment, failure. I heard this thing the other day D it said fear and doubt will kill far more dreams than failure ever will or forever has or ever has or ever will.
I thought that was kind of fascinating because, you know, when I think of it, I have a fear of failure. It's not failure that's preventing me from tapping into my greatness. It's the fear, fear of failure or it's the fear of somebody else judging you or the fear of, of coming up short. But failure, failures, I mean, we've talked about it 100 times. It's a component, it's a stepping stone. It's a building block to, to your big, big comeback.
[00:13:10] Speaker A: Yeah, no, that's, that's really good, man. And it does prevent a lot of people, man. You know, the, the fear of failure, you know, Gary Vee talks about it all the time. You know, we worry so much about what other people think and in their viewpoints that it, it paralyzes us. You know, we, we worry about them seeing us fail, you know, and we, and it, it will, you know, it will cause you to not take advantage of different things or not challenge yourself or not, you know, going out on the limb and it will cause you to do that, man. And that, that's so unfortunate because people got a lot of potential and the very thing is holding them back is worrying about what someone else's perception of them is, you know, because every, if you look at every success story that, I mean, isn't. There is no success story without failure, right? No, there, there is none like it don't matter. What if it's a business, if it's fitness, you cannot find nowhere where someone, you know, made it to the pinnacle and didn't have shortcomings and failures and all of those things, man. And so, you know, that, that is, that, that, that's going to resonate with a lot of people, you know, because even with, even with weight loss, you know, we, we deal a lot of people with weight loss. A lot of people, they're unhappy with their body, they're unhappy with how they feel, how they look, they're very unhappy. But they fear that if they Start something and then fail. Then people are gonna, you know, talk about them or, you know, oh, you know they're gonna do that, man. And that very thing prevents them from taking that step.
[00:14:48] Speaker B: And. And two, just to speak to what you're saying, you know, a lot of people are blinded to this concept because they've been just so far, so far out of the game or. Or been on the sidelines for so long that they just don't even understand the idea to. To. To face their own discomforts and face their own fears. You know, they don't even. They don't even get it. And, you know, the. The. I always like to think of this as a start line kind of concept. Like, if you're at the start line, okay, you took action today. You made the decision, and you took action today. You're at the start line, okay, you can actually see the race course. But that. That first day that you take off, well, you take a step back away from the finish line. And that second day, you take off, you take another step back, and now all of a sudden, you're so lost in the crowd, the sea of the people at the. At the start line, you can't even see the start line anymore. It's the same concept. I think we talked about it last week or two weeks ago. This. This mound in front of you, and every day off mound builds, right?
[00:15:42] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:15:43] Speaker B: It becomes a vicious cycle, and it brings you to the purgatory of where. Where dreams are lost. And it's just this wild idea because, like, I'm out here grinding on a daily basis, but I don't recognize the importance of where I'm at in my life. And I've done a lot of cool things, but again, you come back to that start line, and my start line is. Is somebody's dream.
[00:16:07] Speaker A: Yes.
[00:16:08] Speaker B: Yes, this happened.
[00:16:10] Speaker A: No, you're good.
[00:16:11] Speaker B: Popped up on my screen. I'm distracted.
It's great. You know how I am, man. People that are watching this know. Know me. They're like, oh, that's. That's normal.
[00:16:21] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:16:22] Speaker B: I don't remember what I'm saying, but something along the way, you're saying your.
[00:16:26] Speaker A: Start line is some people's dream.
[00:16:28] Speaker B: Yes.
And here's where I was going with that. Is if you're watching this right, as long as you're making the decision to do those hard things, whether it's running, whether it's weight loss, whether it's, you know, something professional, emotional, relationship, ask, I guess your start line is somebody else's dream. So be grateful for that. And, and, and two, stop looking lateral. Stop looking lateral. Look in the mirror. Okay? Because that's the only person that you need to really affirm to is, is your reflection.
[00:17:02] Speaker A: Yeah, no, that's good. You know, and the, the, the start line is someone else's dream. You know, that is, that's so good because we, we always, we're our worst own worst critic. You know, we always feel like we, we short here. We. You know, I wish like the old, that old hip hop song. I wish it was a little bit taller. I wish it was a ball up. You always wish it for something else, man. And the very thing that you have is, you know, a lot of people want that play. Like, you know, although I would, I would love to be able to walk around stage weight and you know, chiseled all the time, which is, you know, almost impossible. You know, there's some, some guy that would love to, you know, have my physique where it is right now, you know, and, and I mean I don't envy you running, but I'm sure somebody out there envies plenty of people.
[00:17:50] Speaker B: Yeah, I, I don't some days, but.
[00:17:55] Speaker A: It'S, it's just amazing. It just kind of gives you some perspective and you know, you just remind yourself of that. And then also, you know, the, the comparing yourself because you know, I look at, you know, I look at like an Eric, you know, that's years of work, you know, like, man, I wanna, I wanna look big like that man, you know, And I can't compare, you know, my day one to his day, you know, 101, you know, I can't, I can't compare myself to that. And, and because that, what that does is that that will I have something to work towards but I don't want it to put me in a place where I want to quit because I'm not where I think I need to be.
[00:18:29] Speaker B: And, and just to speak to what you're saying, there's no two identical journeys, right? There's just, I mean there's no two identical journeys. You could have the same exact physique as, as so, and so, right? I'm gonna use Kai Green because, because Kai Green's, you know, he's, he's, he's the pinnacle of, of bodybuilders and I love me some Kai Green. So I'm just sitting right, relate to you to relate to you to him. If you guys had the exact same physique, right, the exact same routine and the exact same discipline, the exact same eating routine, right? Everything's the exact same. You're still not going to look the same, Right? Because there's no two identical journeys. And just to speak to that, you have to every single person that watches this podcast, you have to reflect, Reflect on where you are, who you are and what you want to accomplish. Right?
[00:19:20] Speaker A: Yep.
[00:19:21] Speaker B: We spend a lot of time, a lot of time wishing I had this and wishing I had that. Just like you said. I wish I was taller. I wish I was this. I wish I was that. Right. And I want to apply this to this Step Jam theme. Right? There's 300 million kids in the world with inadequate footwear without. Without shoes or within inadequate shoes. Right? Here we are. I'm rocking a 150 pair of sneakers. Don't even think anything of it. I take it for granted. If you have health, if you have air in your lungs, man, you got something to be grateful for. You have something to be thankful for. If you have shoes on your feet, you have something to be thankful for. There's a lot of people. 1. Over a billion people in the world. 300 million kids. Over a billion people in the world don't have adequate shoes. Get involved with Step Jam. Get involved with our mission. But at the end of the day, just be grateful for what you have. You know, if you have a roof over.
[00:20:16] Speaker A: Yep, you got a roof over your head. You still looking at the ceiling?
[00:20:22] Speaker B: I cut out.
[00:20:24] Speaker A: Yeah, you did.
You were still looking at the ceiling.
[00:20:27] Speaker B: He was like, hey, that's. That's perfect timing then, right?
[00:20:31] Speaker A: You got a roof over your head.
[00:20:32] Speaker B: He was looking like I was looking at it.
But you know what? Just. Just be grateful, guys, and be thankful for the things that you do have, because we spent a lot of time wishing and hoping and dreaming we had something else. And you got health, you got life.
[00:20:46] Speaker A: Absolutely. No, that's. That's spot on, brother. That's spot on, man. And to be honest, that's. That's. That there's nothing to come back on that, man, because you know that if you have those things, that's what it is, man. It's just, you know, so just for the record, yo, I don't have $150 pair of shoes on.
[00:21:05] Speaker B: Just.
[00:21:05] Speaker A: Y'all know, I teased. I teased Brad on that because he. He likes. He likes some good sho. And I'm on the opposite spectrum, man. Give me some pumas, man. Get. Keep it between 30 and 40 bucks. I'm good, dog. Like, we solid.
[00:21:19] Speaker B: You're like walking on clouds. You got 150 pair, 50 pair of shoes on your feet. It's like walking on clouds.
[00:21:24] Speaker A: Okay, well, you know, I'm on the ground, so we're good.
We are good. Nah, man. Anything else, man? You know, this is. We. We talk, man. It's so fluid now with our conversations. And, you know, people say they get a lot from it, and we appreciate the. The feedback, man. So anything else you want to kind of dive in or any direction you want to go to before we get ready to close this out, man, if.
[00:21:49] Speaker B: If you have the means to get to Columbia, South Carolina, on April 12, we want you there. The more people that we have there in person, the more impact we can make, because we're going to be collecting monetary.
[00:22:03] Speaker A: Monetary, something.
This is important. So I'm away.
[00:22:09] Speaker B: Yay.
[00:22:10] Speaker A: All right, There you go.
[00:22:11] Speaker B: Monetary contributions.
Souls for Soul is going to be on site at Benedict College on 412. We'll be collecting lightly used shoes. We'll be collecting new shoes that day and everything that we collect that day. So, like I saying, the more people we have, the more impact we can make. The bigger the impact. The more people we can get there, the more shoes we can collect, more monetary donations. We can collect. Collect. 412, if you have the means to get there, whether it's a flight, whether it's a trip on. In a car, get there if you can. But if you can't be there in person, we have a link up on our Eager to Run page. It's in the feature tab. You can hit that. That link, and it takes you right to our landing pages page. For Souls. For Souls, you have a link to. To donate monetarily, you have a link to donate shoes. You know, we get credit for all of that. We don't need credit because impact is impact, right? But it shows us what. What we. As far as levels go, what we've accomplished as a. As a community, as. As a family. So 412, Columbia, be there. It's going to be a great day. And again, you know, this is one of those prime examples. If you fear it, chase it, right? 60 Minutes is scary for a lot of people. Your greatness is on the other side of that. 60 Minutes.
[00:23:19] Speaker A: That's right. Man. I love that, brother. All right, y'all. Y'all heard it first. Get to Columbia. Let's get it. Till next time. Tag a friend. Let people know, subscribe. All the things, man, we out of here, y'all.
[00:23:30] Speaker B: Peace.
