[00:00:01] Speaker A: What up, what up, what up? Welcome back to the Bad Podcast. Brad and Dwayne. Bradley, my friend. Man, what you got for us? On this episode? [00:00:09] Speaker B: We're going to talk about environments and circles, and I'm. I'm bringing the book out. I'm bringing Prep rep Forever out. It's important to audit your circle. You have to take inventory of who pours into you and who drains you. I was blessed beyond belief to have my team with me throughout my bike ride. I had a lot of supporters, a lot of family members, even strangers. But as energy started to fade away, I found myself looking for all that support. I had an army behind me, yet somehow I still found myself following the opinions of opinions of a few negative voices to live rent free inside my head. That's the crazy thing about negativity. Even when it's outnumbered, it can still become louder if you allow it to. We like to pretend we're immune to criticism. We say things like, I don't care what people think, but deep down, most of us to some degree do. We're human, especially when we're trying to improve ourselves. Growth exposes insecurity. It exposes fear. Growth exposes self doubt. Even the strongest people wrestle with those thoughts. The goal is not to eliminate doubt completely. It's to stop feeding it. [00:01:15] Speaker A: Let's get it. [00:01:20] Speaker B: Are you ready? Are you ready? [00:01:36] Speaker A: What a little, like, would it be, like, what it do? It's your boy Dwayne and Brad. Or I should say Brad and Dwayne, which stands for bad, B A D. Welcome back. Shout out to all the folks, man. That's rocking with us, man. Super excited about this episode, getting in, talking about circles and all those things, but I have to kick it off with this Brad and not to change the. The vibe. I ain't even tell you this, man, but have to take a moment, man. Salute. Rest in peace. Rest in heaven. To my brother, Poly. Yo, he was a fan of this show and, man, super, super amazing guy. That's a picture before. If you want to talk about positivity, you want to talk about making an impact, that is it all together, brother. That is a picture of it. [00:02:24] Speaker B: Yep. He had a. He had a superpower of kind of knowing when somebody was going through something. I don't know if it was a sixth sense or just, you know, Poly being Poly, but, you know, he'd always send out one of those. One of those hype videos or hype messages, you know, go, go, go, coach, right when you needed it. And, you know, the. The world is it's not the same without Poly. You know, we all know this. And shout out to Poly. I know. Hey, listen, he's our number one listener right now. He'll be with us every episode when we drop this baby live, so. [00:02:59] Speaker A: Absolutely. [00:03:00] Speaker B: In his entire family. [00:03:02] Speaker A: Absolutely, man. Much love. Much love. Not. My bad. I didn't mean to. [00:03:07] Speaker B: No, no. I think that aligns with exactly what we're talking about today, because everybody needs a pulley. Everybody needs a pulley in their life. And, you know, you guys can use that hashtag, everybody needs a pulley. Absolutely, man. I don't know. I don't open up Instagram and just have one of those hype messages. And, you know, it's. It's one of those things where, you know, a lot of people will view you and me, Dwayne, as these motivational people. And, you know, it takes a lot of energy to be that uplifting person. But who. Who motivates the motivator. And it's guys like Poly that step in and, you know, and it was just such a. He's such a selfless guy and, you know, he poured in. So, I mean, you're. You're seeing it all over social media. Thousands and thousands of people that he was, you know, pouring into. And. Everybody needs a pulley. [00:03:57] Speaker A: Yeah. What I love, Brad, is that what we're seeing is so amazing because each person thought it was only them. Like, he made you feel like you are that important in each person. And, you know, that's. No, that's not a bad thing. But it's just amazing how he was able to hit so many people to the point. Because, like, you see all these messages, like, I thought I was the one getting them, you know, this man was a. He was a motivation dealer, man. He was serving us all up, man, behind the scenes. Never asked for nothing, never asked for accolades. No. You know what I'm saying? Like, never was that guy serving up motivation just across the board, man. It was just. It was just oozing out of it, man. So, you know, and I. I've had. I mean, not. I don't claim to, like, be, like, the best as a friend. Everybody know him, and Chad was really close, but I've had some really great encounters with a man, and it's just. It's whatever you see online, that's what it is. You know what I mean? Like, there's no. There's no. That's the same guy. All the videos, all the comments, he's always that man. [00:05:10] Speaker B: So I was legit, just about to say that. And I obviously have not had as many encounters as you or Chad or any of his closer friends, but, you know, the handful of times that we got together, you know, at meetups or our gala, he was just extremely genuine, you know, and absolutely, he. He'd dap you up, give you a big hug, and, you know, use that loud pulley voice and up, coach, let's go. You know, and it's hard to find genuine people like that that are out there to gain something from. From something. And I, I just feel like all the time that he had, you know, reached out to any of us, all of us, he just, you know, it was just, you know, it was a selfless act. And I, I, you know, I. I told a kid this the other day. He asked me, he goes, why do you always help people? I said, you know, I think selfless acts always have a way of paying, paying off and paying. Paying out somehow. Absolutely. You know, if you're selfless, you know, you'll. You'll be rewarded. And he was always, always just a bright race, a son, and absolutely, man. Yep. [00:06:17] Speaker A: Yeah. No 100. And, you know, just kind of circling back around to, you know, having. Having a poly man, having somebody in your circle, how important is that? But you said something in your quote, man, that I definitely want to tag into. And, you know, I think we can blame social media for this. You can have a hundred likes on a post and one bad comment, and you disregard the hundred likes, and all focusing on is one bad comment. It's amazing how the human brain works. Why do we focus on that one thing, man? Why do we let that. That. That thorn sticking outside? Why do we, you know, and it's. I. I know for me personally, because, you know, most of y' all don't know. I've been in social media and podcasts and, you know, and, you know, I used to do controversial stuff. So I've been in this space. And so the. The way I navigate social media is a little different because I had my phase, Brad, out in2012. I was typing up the long responses, and everybody, you know, this is. We're talking about over 10 years ago. So I've had that phase. Now I'm to the point where, you know, I want everybody else to get where there's this magic button I'm gonna show you across my screen. It's gonna go like this. If you do that. That's a magic button, Brad, that swipe up even. Even when. When you see a bad comment. And that Swipe up, bruh. That's a game changer. You can figure that out, man. But let's talk about that, man. Why does that piece. [00:07:56] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:07:57] Speaker A: So much? [00:07:58] Speaker B: Well, you know, I, I was reading something recently. You know, thousands and thousands and thousands of years ago, the human beings that, that recognized and noticed dangers, they were the ones that survived. And that's something that has been inherited over, over time. You know, if you, if you didn't pay attention to the, the rustling in the bushes, if you didn't pay attention to the, the red flags, you're done. You know, it's, it's not the same today, but our brains are developed to pursue that negativity and focus and pay attention to the threats, the criticism, the mistakes, the worst case scenarios. We're always creating hypotheticals in our mind. And again, that's just an inherited trait that we have had over thousands of years. And I'll use myself as an example. So when I did my big bike ride, I had so much support out on the road. People were honking in a positive way, waving and people are cheering on the road. But I only remember three trucks. I only remember three trucks. And they were the three trucks that tried to run me off the road or gave me an aggressive honk or flip, you know, give me the bird. Those were the only three trucks. And I remember it was a burgundy truck, a silver truck and a gray truck. And they're, all three of them were Chevys. [00:09:10] Speaker A: And hey, hold on, you got a tag number? [00:09:14] Speaker B: You know, I, I told my mom, I said, if you hear them, hon, can you get a picture immediately, because I'll give them a shout out on social media. But it's, it's, you know, we have that natural tendency to, you know, look at the naysayers and, and really, you know, focus on all that negativity and, and it's just something that we were inherited over, over time. And it is, it is very intentional to focus on positive vibes and, and good things because there is a lot of darkness in this world. There's a lot of negativity, hate in this world, a lot of, you know, a lot of doubt, doubters and it's just easier to, to, you know, have something in common with them, you know. [00:09:55] Speaker A: Yeah, no, I, I, I appreciate you bringing up that, that idea of the whole survival because of the recognizing the negative, because that's something I didn't even think about. Like, it's almost like an innate thing to do that, which makes sense because, you know, most people deal with that and you have to be intentional with the positivity, and you have to be intentional, which. That goes back to, you know, creating that circle, you know, creating that installation that you talk about, you know, creating that. That. That boundary. So when you do get that negative, that you got more encouragement, more positivity coming right back at you. But it's. It's amazing that. I mean, that's a great scenario when you was on the bike and, you know, the three. The only three that stuck in your mind were the negative aspect. But again, that's survival, though, because, you know that it could have been ill intentions. So that's a natural. Yeah, so that's not necessarily a terrible thing, but it's just a matter of just what we focus on. And. And. And. And actually, I mean, we're. Right now, we're turning it into something positive. Like, we're. We're telling you, like, hey, everybody's not rooting for you. You know, unfortunately, you know, everybody's not rooting for you, and everybody's not on your side. But there are several people that are. We are. If you listen to this podcast, we're rooting for you. We're on your side. But it's just a good reminder of that. [00:11:25] Speaker B: Yeah. You know, the focus thing. Right. It's a focus thing. And I got a really neat story so. In my hometown right now. And. And when you're listening to this and watching this, guys, it was last week, so it's called Rodeo City, and we have the longest consecutive rodeo east of the Mississippi. And so it was Wednesday night. Opening night is big family night. So we brought the kids down, and it was sort of a damp night. It was raining a little bit, and we had a really. So this is. This is perfect timing, actually. So I had my boys with me, and I was holding Rushy's hand, and we were walking down what's called the fairways. Just, you know, a bunch of vendors, et cetera, et cetera. And we're walking, and there was a mud puddle, right? And we came up to this muddy puddle, and Rushy goes, oh, no, there's a muddy puddle. This is gonna ruin our. Our night. Or something along those lines. And at the same time, I was looking off into the distance, I was looking at a rainbow right in front of us. So, you know, again, where that focus is, like, we were in the exact same point on that fairway. He was looking down at the mud. I was looking up at the rainbow. And sometimes if you spend your life staring at what's wrong, you'll miss out on the beautiful things. Right. We were standing a foot apart. [00:12:43] Speaker A: All right? [00:12:44] Speaker B: Perspective won't remove the. The mud puddle, all right? But it can absolutely help you see the rainbow. And that was something that. It's just perfect timing with this. You just really have to focus on what you. What. What. What you want to see, because everybody can see that muddy puddle, right? And. And you might accidentally step in that muddy puddle if you're watching the rainbow and what's beautiful in life. But you got. You gotta. You gotta. You gotta just. Just really pay attention and be intentional with where you're looking and where your focus goes. [00:13:17] Speaker A: So my mind, because I. I think, like, movies, music, so what I heard was, you gotta keep your head up. Yeah, that's. You got. That's what's gotta happen, man. You got. You gotta keep your head up, man. Don't. Don't focus on. Don't hold your head down. You know. You know, you can glance down so you don't step in the puddle, but. Right. [00:13:44] Speaker B: Well, it's easy to just, you know, you lose. And. [00:13:48] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:13:50] Speaker B: You know, it's. You have to have intent. Like, you have to activate your muscles to keep your chin up. Like. Yeah, it's an action to keep your chin up and, like, look. But it's. It's very. It's very easy to just. [00:14:03] Speaker A: Yeah, yeah. You remember that. That clip, that. It went kind of viral. The basketball player. Yeah. And his teammate held his head up. Yeah, man. Yeah, that's. That's. That. There you go. He took it right out. [00:14:16] Speaker B: No. [00:14:17] Speaker A: Yeah. Somebody help you keep your head up, man. Yeah, that's. That's. Yeah, no, that's. That's the poly mindset. We talk about mama mentality. That's. That's the poly mentality. Poly mindset. Let's. Let's coin that. Get it out there. [00:14:33] Speaker B: Hashtag poly mindset. [00:14:35] Speaker A: Yeah. Holy mindset. Yes, sir. [00:14:38] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:14:38] Speaker A: Yeah, that's. That's the. That's the thing, man. And it's full circle, man, having somebody help you change that perspective and, you know, and. And not look at the puddle and look at the rainbow, you know, having that and you being that for somebody else, you know, because we all. A lot of times, we come from the perspective of somebody's going through, man. But you may be the person that needs to. To be the. To have. You may need the poly mindset for somebody else, man. And that being selfless and. And encouraging and motivating and sending a message and checking up. You know, you guys know I talk about you know, all the time. [00:15:13] Speaker B: How. [00:15:13] Speaker A: You know, those messages are the things that kept me going and now, like, you know, ain't nothing gonna stop me. But if it wasn't for those messages early on the game, you know, that I wouldn't even be standing right here doing this podcast or only any to him. So, you know, we just gotta keep that in mind. [00:15:30] Speaker B: Yeah. And I think that's something everybody has to keep in mind. And, and also, you know, going through life and, you know, especially in the fitness space, you have to have the expectation that life's gonna, you know, put muddy puddles in your path. You know, you're gonna have to face adversity. And, and you're, you're not. The deal with naysayers, if you're trying to take care of yourself, if you're trying to level up in any, any capacity in your life, you're gonna have somebody out there that just, you know, it's a jelly, jealous, jealousy thing, you know, they. People don't want you to win as much as everybody should want you win. And I, I'm a firm believer in law of attraction. Like, what kind of energy you put out is what you get back. And, and people that are, that are losing in life, the reason they're losing in life is they're throwing so much shade on other people and they're hating on so many other people, and that's the universe just saying, hey, you give it, I'll give it back. Here you go. And, you know, the, the power of positivity, man, is, Is incredible. So law of attraction, put out what you want. [00:16:32] Speaker A: Listen, I thought it was gonna have to change the rating of the podcast. He was like, they throw so much shade. [00:16:40] Speaker B: Shade. [00:16:45] Speaker A: I was like, well, I guess I got to change the rating on this. [00:16:48] Speaker B: I don't know, PG 13 on the old pot. Boy, [00:16:53] Speaker A: that's funny. But no, that's. That's real, man. That's real. You. You dish it, man. It will return. And, you know, and that, that's, you know, the, the whole being positive thing, like, is it. It works with that, too. It works for the negative, works for the positive. You, you dish it out, it's going to reciprocate, you know, when you need it the most. You know, when you, when you're not even thinking about it, it's going to reciprocate. [00:17:18] Speaker B: So. [00:17:19] Speaker A: Yeah, yeah, no, that's good. Real good. [00:17:21] Speaker B: Yeah. You know, I always like using my kids, and, you know, kids are so, you know, so innocent, and it's, it's, it's really neat to watch kids go through life because kids are. I mean, for the most part, kids are just very positive. Right? And over time, you know, being around naysayers and being around coaches and teachers and family and friends tell you you can't, you won't, you shouldn't, it just. It just becomes almost acceptable in our lives, and we become numb to those words, and then all of a sudden, we start to doubt ourselves. So I. I always, you know, promote in my family, get around a bunch of cheerleaders, get around a bunch of people that are going to promote you and push you to be better. And, you know, that that's just something everybody can take from this podcast is, you know, get a bunch of cheerleaders in your life and, you know, people that want you to win as bad as you want you to win. So that's what you got to get. [00:18:13] Speaker A: Absolutely, man. Absolutely. You know, I. So it's. It's funny, I. I remember certain phases of my life where, like, you know, I was faced with that negativity, you know, that I never seen before. And it's funny because. And I'll tell this story before we. Before we land. You know, I was a seventh grader, and I was actually starting seventh grade basketball. And the very first game, we had super nervous, you know, game feel like it's moving a thousand miles an hour. But we were up by one with, I think it was like six seconds left, and I wasn't playing point that I was playing two. So the guard came down, we up by one, six, seven seconds left. He threw it to me. What did I do? I shot that sucker. All I had to do was hold on to the ball. It went in. After the game, the coach said, hey, you know, if you would have missed that shot, I would have cut your head off. And my whole. It was like my whole. I could see my. I can see the world from outside my body. It was like, I've never. You know what I mean? Like, hearing that, bro. And I was already scared of him because he was hot. Like, that was. And that's where I was like, oh, snap. Like this. The world is not all good. You know what I mean? It was that moment, man. And. And I know he didn't mean nothing by it, but for me, because I was so impressionable, young, so positive, you know, play wreck. Everything is high. Da da da. This was like, you almost cost us the. You know, and it just. It was like a switch. And I was like, oh, I would never be the same. I remember that Bro, like to this day. [00:20:00] Speaker B: Yeah, well, you know, take, take that for what it is, folks. You know, the power of words, you know, they are very lasting. And I, you know, a handful of experiences myself that you, you hang on to those things for a lifetime. And you know, if you're, if you're in the, if you're in the, the field of coaching or teaching or anything that's going to leave an impression on a young person, just be extremely careful. Like I, I've, I've mentioned that English teacher. You know, it took me 20 years to write a book. You know, she, she had left an impression on a 17 year old kid and it, I mean, I, I don't know, I could have been Edgar Allen Poe for all we know. If she would have said, hey, you are gonna be a great writer, go write your book. Yeah, I'd be out there writing Harry Potter number six right now. [00:20:52] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:20:53] Speaker B: You know, so very, very be very careful with careful words that you absolutely leave with kids, young people, anybody, anybody, anybody, anybody. [00:21:03] Speaker A: Everybody's impressionable. You don't know what weight your words carry with people. You know, how they view you. Be super careful with that. You know, make them positive. Holy mentality, man. Make them positive. Cheer them on, you know, uplift the best you can and correct when necessary because that'll be balanced. [00:21:23] Speaker B: Yes. [00:21:25] Speaker A: All right, Brad, what you got, man, to get us out of here? [00:21:27] Speaker B: Hey, man, in a life full of mud puddles, let's focus on the rainbows. [00:21:32] Speaker A: Let's focus. I like it.
