Episode Transcript
[00:00:00] Speaker A: What up, what up, what up, what up? Welcome back to the Bad podcast, Brad and Dwayne. And man, listen, first of all, happy Monday, Brad. What are we talking about today, brother?
[00:00:11] Speaker B: We're going to talk about mileage. We're going to talk about the grind. The grind, it doesn't just demand your time and your body. It demands your focus, your belief, your willingness to keep going when no one's watching and when every fiber in you wants to quit.
[00:00:26] Speaker A: I like that quote, like the great group clip said, grinding.
[00:00:35] Speaker B: Are you ready? Are you ready?
[00:00:51] Speaker A: What it looked like, would it be like, what it do, man, after the intro, brother, you came back clearer. Just so you know.
[00:00:58] Speaker B: Clear.
I've been working on my skin.
[00:01:00] Speaker A: Oh, okay. Good job.
So, man, before we jump in, first of all, man, I want to shout out the folks that caught us live. Bro, we did a live episode.
It was really hype. A lot of people was in interacting. If you missed it, I will not be uploading that audio by podcast. So you have to go to YouTube to check it out. That's the only place it is located. And while you are there, make sure you subscribe because it was a really good show.
We interacted with the crowd, with the crew, had a really good time, and so much so. Brad want to do it more often, so we'll see what comes of that. But I definitely wanted to remind you, you, most of you on the, on the podcast side heard my interlude. You know about the live that night. And then if you hadn't caught it yet, you have to watch it on YouTube.
Just wanted to put that disclaimer out there.
[00:01:51] Speaker B: Yeah, and, and just shout out to those folks that joined us. And folks, if you're listening to this, whether it's on Apple Podcasts or YouTube, do us a solid and share with a friend if you get anything from this podcast, share with a friend, Share it with a family member. Share it with somebody that you work out with or somebody that may be in the darkness, needs a little bit of motivation or just a little bit of encouragement. Share it with them.
We. We don't get anything in return for, for you sharing it other than what we get to keep this podcast alive. We, you know, we're on the, we're on the tracks. We're, we're choo chooing along and you know, we hope to keep this podcast going for a very long time. So do us a solid and share that with a friend. And hey, let's, let's give our clients something today. Dwayne Hoist is One of my favorite electrolyte drinks. If you use the promo code Eager to Run, it will. Will hook you up with a discount. Eager to Run. And I've estimated number two to get a discount on the product Hoist. And if you've never tried Hoist, give it a shot. So we give a.
[00:02:55] Speaker A: Give our.
[00:02:55] Speaker B: Our friends and family a little discount today. And Dwayne, take the show, because I'm just gonna go ahead and double check on that discount code.
[00:03:04] Speaker A: All right, man, no problem.
No problem. No. So, you know, I can. I can vouch for Hoist because we had them at our events and they are definitely delicious. As well as, you know, the. The electrolytes, man. So they. It's vital when you, when you're a runner, when you're working out, even in. Even in bodybuilding, it's. It's super important, you know, that you get that. That in. And, you know, this is.
Hopefully we'll get more of these, man. You know, we have great vision and great, you know, dreams of having, you know, more sponsors and the more codes we can bring to you. I was just talking to Brad before we went live. You know, I'm talking to supplement companies and, And I'm. I'm gonna put y' all on, man. I'm gonna put y' all on, get y' all to use my code, get your discount as they come through. So. But the. The actual code is step jam20. So let me throw that on the screen for the YouTubers just so that we. We don't have nobody putting in eager to run at.
At the joint. And they were like, what is this code that keeps getting denied? Yeah, listen, I've done this for a while. I put out some wrong codes before.
You know, funny story, the first kind of sponsorship that I had with, with Protect Protect the Wrist Grip Company, I was telling everybody, Dwayne21, and he actually had used my name like, you know, Dwayne A was the. The code. And so people's like, man, your code's not working the right code. The correct code is step jam20. Actually, let's. Let's make it scroll down at the bottom just so you know. But yeah, that is for.
For Hoist.
Hoist Electrolyte Drink.
Really good. Really will help quench your thirst. All right, we good?
[00:05:01] Speaker B: Bri B. Yeah. Yeah. And I apologize for that, guys.
And, you know, so why I promote this drink, it's. It's great for not just fitness, but overall wellness because it rehydrates you a lot faster than water. It does have those added electrolytes. It has essential nutrients and without excess sugar helps you with recovery and just staying balanced, you know, with the fitness game. And that's one of those components that we miss out on a lot with the, with our, with our water because you know, being sat, being saturated and hydrated is extremely important with, for our, for our joints, for our mental state.
But you do need those electrolytes and essential nutrients. So hoist is my, my go to and not now that I'm off the soapbox man. Let's talk about this grind.
And you and I are both on a similar journey here. We're both on a similar path where we are in the grind.
It does demand a lot of our, our physical attention and it does demand a lot of time and effort. But at the same time you, you have to sort of keep that vision at the forefront because when you get, when you start to slip away, you start to get tired.
The willingness to keep going, just like I said, it's, it's every fiber in your body trying to push you to the, to the sidelines and push you out of the game where you need to have that willingness to keep going. I call it the, the iron, the uncommon iron will. And that's the preface of my book, my next book Prep Rep Forever.
But having that uncommon iron will.
And I'm just going to deliver one tool that I use and that's forecasting. You know, like to see what's ahead of the game for me being present, but forecasting what the future could look like if I get through this ride or I get through this workout. And the same applies for anybody that's in sports or a professional setting, relationship setting. If you can forecast what you want and what you desire out of a relationship or what you desire out of yourself at your place of work or what you desire out of yourself for the stage or you know, I'm riding my bike to Orlando. Like I can already see them forecasting people at, you know, in Orlando, Florida, cheering and hooting and hollering and us being able to raise 10 or $20,000 so we can put that many pairs of shoes on kids feet. Like I already see that on a ride. So we're watching, we're, we're recording this on a Thursday, folks. And I've already done 25 miles this morning in right after we get done with this podcast. I gotta hop on my bike and it's rainy up here in Western New York, so I'm indoors and I'll be on this bike for another 75 miles, which is like 4,4ish hours for me. It's a long time, man. And, and you're, you're gonna grind it out. You're gonna lose that vision from time to time, but you learn to learn to discover that vision real quickly. When you get that board.
[00:07:51] Speaker A: No, absolutely, man. The, the. You know, the first thing I thought about when you talked about the iron will aspect, you know, as human, Human beings and living in human bodies, your body naturally will take the road that is the easiest by nature. Your, Your body just in reaction, if something is difficult, it will try to find. The easier way it always does is it's just the makeup of the body. It's the way that it preserves itself. Itself, pretty much. And so don't think what you're fighting against is like, you're the only one dealing with that. You know, I, I ran into people that think, you know, how, how can you, how can everybody has that. You, Everybody naturally would much rather sit on the couch, watch tv, put the feet up, you know what I'm saying? Like, that sounds amazing.
You know, sleep in, don't get up at three.
Like, by nature, people, you're, you're like that. But it's making that decision, man, to, to. To, you know, tap in. And, and again, like you said that, that forecast and that forecasting, it, it gives it, it gives you inspiration to, you know, to, to, to keep going, keep trying.
I remember this, you know, back in the day, headed to, you know, the football, the basketball game, and coach would say, hey, boys, you know, cut out all the talking, Think about the game. Think about where you're gonna be on the floor. Think about the mood, think about who you got tonight. You know, remember the scout report? And so you. That's that I, I cultivated that mentality from that time frame of just sitting on the bus and quiet, thinking about the game, kind of, Kind of meditating on it pretty much. And that same kind of thing. I'm doing that with the show. And I'll be honest with this show, there's no, no stress on me. I mean, I'm home and, you know, I, I'm thinking about after the show. Brad, I ain't gonna hide.
I mean, you know, how you, you saying you can see the cheers or whatever. I'm thinking about the after the show, man, and all my friends that are coming and how we're gonna hang out and, and I'm gonna get to enjoy some stuff again. So. But, but it's the, it's the, it's that Vision that, vision, casting that. That keeps me going because I don't want to disappoint those folks showing up. You know, it's not pressure, but also I do. I. I do want to go out there and. And make everybody proud, man. So all of that stuff kind of ties in.
[00:10:24] Speaker B: And I.
I'm gonna use what you just said. I'm gonna put a little bit of a twist on it. A lot of us were so connected with that external connection and in the, in the sense of we do want to, you know, we have people that watch us. Right. And for me, like, I've already set a very large stage for myself and now people that. Now that people are watching, I'm like, man, I. I have to do this right? I. I gotta follow through.
But to check in with yourself internally and, you know, when you. When you start to feel that, that visualization start to dull and the motivations start to dissolve.
Know when you can visualize, like, you're talking, like, the afterparty kind of thing. Like, I can, I can, man. I will tell you what I dream about the afterparty, because that means I don't have to get on this spin bike anymore. I don't have to get on the road anymore. Like, that's. That's what it means to me.
[00:11:17] Speaker A: And yes.
[00:11:18] Speaker B: And you, you know, I'm a, I'm a. I'm a bucket list guy. Like, I'll probably never ride a bicycle again. Like, I'm never gonna do an iron man unless my. My. One of my sons said, hey, let's let dad. Let's do an iron man.
[00:11:29] Speaker A: Right, Right.
[00:11:30] Speaker B: But that, like, that's what it means to me.
Yeah. But, you know, so when you, when you start to feel this boredom set in, I. I want you. This is another tool that you can use. I don't want you to think of boredom as a negative thing. You think of. Think of boredom as a positive thing. Think of your. Yourself reframing or redefining what boredom is. Treat it as a signal, as a cue to tell you it's. It's time to adapt. It's time to shift your perspective, Turn that boredom and into fuel versus.
Versus, you know, anything in a negative sense. And sometimes you really got to get creative. We talked about this last week. We talked about it, you know, often. Michael Jordan, he used. It wasn't boredom, but he used stories to fuel his creativity. Oh, co. Coach didn't shake my hand. No. Coach never even saw him or Coach wasn't even in the restaurant.
But he would formulate these stories to, to fuel his, his, his greatness. And, you know, so you do have to get creative and keep yourself in the game to that sense.
[00:12:38] Speaker A: Yeah, no, I, I really like that, Brad.
You know, the, you know, have, and, and this is so funny. We generalize things, but, like, I think about it in a sense of, hey, man, have you ever got bored of brushing your teeth? You know, have you ever got bored of, you know, taking a shower? You know, and, and because I had somebody to reach out about. And, and that's, that's. I equate me working out, you know, eating on these macros as brushing my teeth, as taking a shower. You know, it's super mundane. It can feel boring or whatever, but, but I love what you said about just changing your mindset on that.
And honestly, that to me, that's a sign that you're locked in, like, where it's no longer, like, grueling, but it's like, you know, I'm getting it done. Like, okay, well, I've hit a groove here. And, you know, and, and, and it never fails. You stay inside that groove. It. The, the, the payoff is, is phenomenal, you know, but it's the people that, that, that fall off. Like, I don't like this no more. You know, in my mind, I'm like, what's the alternative? You know, either keep going being bored or, you know, go back to, you know, where you came from or what, what you were trying to get away from, you know, so that. I really like that reframing the boredom aspect. You know, I even saw a real. That said, you know, because our kids, we always try to entertain our kids. We always want something if it's not us, a tablet, you know, tv.
And this, this, this real. I saw, it was like, it's good for kids to be bored. Bored because that's when their creativity kicks in. That's when they, you know, because you got. Because my girls, boy, that. It's so funny. Well, five seconds. I, like, put the tablets up. I'm bored.
My response is, hey, bored, how you doing?
[00:14:35] Speaker B: Hey, boy.
[00:14:37] Speaker A: But, but, you know, and it, I watched it with them, you know, you know, I, I, we take the tablet away, turn the TV off, and, you know, Savannah, she's making some kind of a craft out of paper. You know, Charissa is doing, you know, something on a computer. It's, it, it just unlocks, you know, creativity and, you know, and I think, I mean, the same work for grownups, man. Yeah. When you get in that realm, you, you begin to Come up with ways to. To. To get you out of. Or to make it entertaining.
[00:15:05] Speaker B: Yeah, I love what you said, and I. I think we actually mentioned this on the pod, or at least I'm. I'm Dr.
But, you know, when we were kids, you'd use a stick as, oh, you know, 10,000 different things. It'd be a sword, it'd be a. It'd be a, you know, a gun. It would be anything, a hammer, anything, you know, and. And you would take that stick and play with it for hours. And then like, somebody, you know, a neighborhood kid would walk up, hey, what are you doing with that stick? Playing. Okay, let me grab a stick.
[00:15:36] Speaker A: And.
[00:15:36] Speaker B: Yeah, you know, you said something with adults like, you know, it sparks that. That creativity, but it sparks pride, too, man. Where, in the sense of, like, my son, he's working on this. This craft. Hey, dad, I'm working on my craft. And it's. It's like, it's an old. It's a. I think it's a shoe box, like, wrapped with tape, and there's like a. Like a toilet paper roll on top of that. There's, like fuzz balls all over it. And he just. I mean, there's tape and glue and sparkles and all this stuff going on. I have no idea. But it's his craft, and it does create that or it does give him an avenue for creativity, but it also creates an avenue for real pride. Because when he's. When he's working on this thing, like, you can just see the glow in his face. Now, when I'm on that bike, you don't see that same glow.
Even when I get off of that bike, you don't see the same glow. Like, I'm tired. Right. But upon accomplishment, like, yeah, you know. You know, hours later, I'm like, golly, like that. That feels good to get it. To get it out of the way and get it done. Because, like, the masses of society just aren't doing this. And I. I was just reading the stats, like, like 50 of. Of new gym users quit within this first six months. Why?
Because they. They use boredom as a negative catalyst versus a positive catalyst. Like, you're not going to be always, you know, hey, everybody, I'm here. Yay me. You're not going to be that. You're going to walk through the gym and. And you're gonna feel tired, you're gonna be. Feel fatigued. You're gonna be bored. But when you. Like you said, when you're bored, get creative.
[00:17:07] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:17:07] Speaker B: How can you. How can you revamp that energy? How can you recreate that enthusiasm that you had on January 1st or when you had, had, you know, three weeks ago? Like, how do you, how do you muster up that energy to keep going? And I think, you know, reframing your perspective, number one. And number two, you know what, what I said right in the beginning, and that was.
I, I don't remember what it was.
Re. Reframing your mindset. And what was the other thing? D.
Holy cow. I, I'm like, I, you know, I'm, I'm more than, more shot than you could even. Oh, forecasting.
[00:17:50] Speaker A: Okay.
[00:17:51] Speaker B: Yeah, the visualization man. I will tell you this, this bike ride is taking it out on me physically.
[00:17:58] Speaker A: Huh.
[00:17:59] Speaker B: But it is taking it out on me mentally too. Like, huh, you know, and you want to talk about forecasting, like, I have to plan out my ride so far in advance. So as you know, I'm gonna be out of town for a little bit. Next it would be this week. So as soon as I get done with my lives, tomorrow morning, Tuesday, I'm shooting to Charlotte, boom in Charlotte, Wednesday, shooting back, gonna be back Wednesday night, boom. Thursday right back. So I gotta like forecast.
[00:18:25] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:18:25] Speaker B: These miles, like, when can I get my rides in? When can I get this in? When can I be a dad, when can I be a husband, when can I.
It's taking it out on me.
[00:18:35] Speaker A: Oh, brother. Yes, sir. No, I, So for me it's similar, not as extreme.
What my life revolves around food.
That's what I have to strategize and plan the gym. I pretty much got that solid. You know, even when I travel to the studio, you know, we got stuff at this, at the studio. I knocked that stuff out. But my, my, my forecast and dilemma is food, like making sure I either pack a bag, got a bag, you know, know about, you know, and, and, and you, you have to be conscious of it at all time.
But when this drop is the day after. But you know, on Sunday I'm going to the Yorton and that is the national championship for OCB bodybuilding. And so that's pretty much an all day event.
[00:19:28] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:19:29] Speaker A: 10:00Am you know, will Carter, shout out to Will Carter, one of the spin and trainers for each one Premium.
He'll be competing in the bodybuilding competition. And then shout out to coach Eric gonna be doing men's physique. And men's physique don't start to like one like wheels at 10.
Men's physique started one and then there's 46 men physique competitors, and they all got to do individual routines, so. But I. I will be bag lunching that day, but just. Just going back to the.
Everything with me revolves around where I get my meals and how I get my meals. And then when I'm home, I'm like.
It's like, I don't even want to plan because I have to plan so much. I was like, I'll just calculate it as I go.
[00:20:16] Speaker B: Yeah. And. And, you know, Dwayne, you and I are on. On extremes, and I always like to try to water things down because not everybody's training to ride a bike from Jamestown to Orlando. Not everybody's trying to get on a physique stage. But I think the. The foundation of what you and I are talking about right now is just that intent, right? You have to be intentional with what you really want in your life. Like, if you. If you want to be financially.
Financially wealthy, and every time you get a paycheck, 3/4 of your paycheck goes to fun and margarita money like that, you're not gonna. You're not gonna be financially wealthy. Like, if you want to have a physique, you want to be really healthy, really, really fit.
Every time you have an opportunity to eat bon bons at. At the office like that, those goals don't align with. With your actions and decisions. So I think intent is extremely important with all that you do. So, you know, take a step out of the box. You know, a lot of times when we're in the box, it's hard to see, like, oh, I'm really making these. These toxic decisions and doing, you know, taking actions that don't align and that you're just lacking intent. You're lacking purpose. So find that intent. So those are the three tools that I got today. First, I love it.
Forecasting.
[00:21:27] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:21:27] Speaker B: Second, reframe that negativity. Reframe that boredom. And then third, like I just said, you know, just dial in on. On what you want and what you really, truly desire and not just today. Long game, you know, what do you desire? Long game. Like, how do you want to be defined? Like, let. You want to talk legacy here.
That's. That's like long, long game. Legacy.
The actions that you take and the decisions that you make today, that's. That's what your. Your mark is going to say about you when you're long gone.
[00:21:56] Speaker A: Absolutely. Absolutely, brother.
I love it, man. So before we get ready to close out, finish out, I just want to take a moment, man, and. And just, you know, thank you Guys, thank you for the love. Thank you for, you know, the post. We see them, we see them. We, we just want to see more. That's why we keep talking about it. We see the faithful, like, you know, I only want to call names, but there's some faithful crews that post that tag us on their personal in the group. And we appreciate it, keep doing it, and maybe that inspires some more folks to do it as well.
Bradley, I'm gonna let you get back to that bike. So let's go ahead and. Go ahead.
[00:22:37] Speaker B: We, we. Two weeks ago, we did a question, a random question. I got, I got one for you. Yeah.
[00:22:43] Speaker A: All right.
[00:22:43] Speaker B: If you could be any animal, what would it be?
[00:22:49] Speaker A: If I could be any animal, what would it be?
All right, so I'm gonna go with a. Probably an obvious. Well, no, it's not obvious.
I would be a grizzly bear.
[00:23:01] Speaker B: I was gonna say grizzly bear.
[00:23:03] Speaker A: I would be a grizzly bear. No, you get to sleep all winter.
Ain't too many people messing with you.
You know what I'm saying?
[00:23:10] Speaker B: Nobody messing.
[00:23:11] Speaker A: Yeah, ain't too many. Ain't too many messing with you. And you get to sleep, you know, several months at a time.
[00:23:18] Speaker B: That's true.
[00:23:18] Speaker A: Eat good.
[00:23:20] Speaker B: Well, since you took that, I'd go bald eagle, man, soaring higher than any other bird, you know, the most attractive bird out there. I'd have to go bald eagle. Grizzly bear was my first choice.
All legal. Second choice. So drop in the comments. If you could be any animal and flying would be cool. Just, I mean, just to be flying, man, that'd be pretty cool. They pick up small children and deer and jaguars and stuff, man. So I'd take the bald eagle, but yeah, folks, man, just, you know, to reiterate what D said, we are extremely grateful for our community. For you folks that are listening non stop and just religiously, you know, tuning into the bad podcast, we don't get a whole lot for this. Just chance for us to, to talk back and forth, chop it up real quick and hopefully motivate and encourage just one person. That's all we're trying to do, one person every day. So hopefully that was you today. And if it was, give this a share. I am still doing the Prep Rep Repeat deal. So if you share the podcast on Facebook and tag us, you get a chance to win a copy of Prep Rep Repeat. I'll sign it in. In the last giveaway that we did, the person that won, she actually had already had a copy. She already bought a copy.
So I, I pre ordered the Prep Rep Forever book for her. So, you know, so if you share that podcast or share the. The screenshot of the podcast, guys, tag us.
Get in on that entry, boy, and get a chance to win one of the books.
[00:24:47] Speaker A: Nice. All right, till next time, man, we are out of here.
