[00:00:00] Speaker A: What up, what up, what up? Welcome back to the Bad Podcast Brad and Dwayne.
I'm Brad and that's Dwayne. Just kidding, Bradley, man. What we got going on today?
[00:00:12] Speaker B: I'm getting old is the word on the street. Let's talk about aging and fitness.
[00:00:18] Speaker A: Well, I'm a, quote, the great poet.
It's a great poet, y'. All. Rest in peace. To Aaliyah. She said, age ain't nothing but a number. Let's get it.
[00:00:30] Speaker B: Are you ready? Are you ready?
[00:00:46] Speaker A: Would it be like, Would it be like, what it do? I messed that up, but. Welcome back to the Bad Podcast, Brad and Dwayne, which stands for Brad and Dwayne. And we're super excited to be coming to you with another episode. Super happy to be coming through your tv. Hope you're watching this on the big screen. You can see these, you know, see the fit, see the boys. We always in here. Looking good, man, and just excited for another podcast. Brad, man, before we jump to the topic, man, how you feeling? What you got going on, man?
[00:01:12] Speaker B: Feeling good. I, I've been battling some lower back issues over the last couple of weeks. A lot of the E2M fam knows this, but really leaning into the mobility and just, you know, you know, just the stretching aspect of the fitness part of things and starting to, to recover a little bit and gearing up to get back to Charlotte here in a week. And we'll see, we'll see what that does to my body.
[00:01:38] Speaker A: We'll see, man. We gotta, we gotta get that E2 in private jet going, man, so you can stretch out.
[00:01:44] Speaker B: Amen. I'll tell you, man, if I don't have that extended legroom, that does play a significant role, man. Holy moly.
[00:01:52] Speaker A: Right? You know what it sounds like, man? Sounds like you're getting old, man.
[00:01:57] Speaker B: You know, it's, it's a perfect transition. I had a conversation with a friend a handful of days ago now, and I was like, hey, man, how you doing? And the first thing, the first words he uttered out of his mouth is, I'm getting old.
And a lot of us like to say that. People love saying I'm, I'm getting old, you know, and they blame age on the lack of fitness or the last lack of health or being overweight. That's the first go to is I'm getting old. I don't, I, I can't, I won't, I shouldn't, you know, so on and so forth.
I read articles daily on 90 year old Ironman athletes. 90 year old marathon finisher, 90 year old ultra finishers, 90 year olds getting on the stage.
Age is a number. And as much as we like to blame age and understand that age is something, you know, obviously that is real, but it's not the problem, right? It's not the problem. We have to stop blaming age.
You stopped lifting for a reason. And the hardest thing, Dwayne, is this.
When we're sore, our brains are designed to keep us out of harm's way, right? And when we're sore, our brains are going to tell us stay away from doing the hard thing. But oftentimes it's that hard thing that reduces inflammation, reduces pain, reduces long term discomfort. It's just the thing that we're avoiding the most because we start to blame age and we're like, well, I'm, I'm 38, I'm getting old, I can't lift, I can't run, I can't stretch, I can't do this, I can't whatever. And it just stretches out and prolongs this, this ever, ever ongoing conversation of its age and nothing else.
[00:03:42] Speaker A: Yeah, man, I mean, this is, this is, this topic hits home for me. Um, you know, I, I can honestly say at 44, I'm in way better shape than I was at 34.
I'm, I'm way better in a lot of things than I was 34.
And you know, my part of my. I always tell people this story, man. I always remembered my parents turning 40 and how it was over the hill and I'm dying.
[00:04:09] Speaker B: Yes, sir.
[00:04:10] Speaker A: You know, and I thought it was like the dead end, but I actually kind of like you saw, you see the Ironman 90s folks. I remember when I went to Ohio and one of my cousins, she was 40, she was 42, and I heard some, something in the background. I got out of bed in a little guest bedroom, walked down the hall and she's on the treadmill doing sprints. And I'm like, you can do that at 42.
It opened my eyes to the possibilities. I moved from the folks that were, you know, about to die at 40 to someone that's thriving at 40, man. And, and just seeing that let me know that, okay, this is actually possible. It's not a dead end. It's not, you know, the, the stop. And then also a pastor at the church we're going to at the time. I remember when he turned 40 and it was, I mean, he, he did everything but cut a backflip on stage. You know, it was a whole thing. I mean, he was fit. He, you know, he dressed nice. I mean, he looked young, and I was like, oh, snap. Like, he 40. Like, you know, and I always think about, like, on. If you look online and you see, like, the old TV shows, and it'd be like the.
The dad on the sitcom, and he's like, yeah, he's 32, and he got, like, a receipt, you know, and. And you see all those imagery, man. But you're not limited to. You're not, you know, your mindset plays a big deal in that. And. And, like, shifting from I'm getting old to, man, I'm getting better, you know, better with time. Sure. Recovery takes longer. I talk about that with. With the guys that I trained that are over 40. The recovery period does take longer, but it don't mean quit. You know, you. You're not gonna, you know, throw up hundreds on the first day. But, hey, what you can, you know, like, it looks different, but you don't have to settle. You don't have to say, you know what?
I'm 40. It's over. You know, and. Shut up. Listen, because I. I know I. I don't. I don't drop name. I don't. I ain't gonna drop no ages. But I know some mature ladies that watch that listen to this podcast that are more mature than me and you, and they look phenomenal. So shout out to them. Y'. All. Drop it in the comments. Y' all know who you are. I ain't gonna call you out because you look like you younger than us. So drop that in the comment. Drop it. You can drop the age of it that. Because, you know, some of the women, they were like, ask me my age, like, I feel good. I look good. But I know that's some of our demographic that listen. So we definitely want to hear from y' all when you hear this part. But, yeah, that's my little spill on it.
[00:06:39] Speaker B: Yeah, Fountain of Youth, man. And that's. That's one of the things that really went hand in hand in parallel with E2M because of the nutrition aspect really is. You know, a lot of these people were reversing their aging process and not the number sense, but, like, how they physically appeared when they. They saw friends that they haven't seen in a while.
I want to go back to that movie thing, that TV show thing. So one of my favorite movies of all time was. Was the Old School Santa Claus with Tim Allen. And he was 41 in that. That movie, but he looked like. You know, even looking back, I. I still Watch that movie today with my kids and I would not think he was a day under 55.
[00:07:20] Speaker A: You know, hey, Tim Allen had a hard life though. You got it.
[00:07:23] Speaker B: Yeah, that was all the actors back in the 90s and 80s and 70s. You see that, you see a 35 year old actor act and they look like they're 65 years old. They had gray hair, they, you know, they have wrinkles, they barely be moving around. But it comes down and boils down to the decisions that you're making. And back then, you know, if you were into fitness like you were, you were a die hard fitness, you know, freak. Nowadays that's just not the case. You know, you can, you can make it a part of your everyday lifestyle, you know, and you know things are going to change that, that's, that's regardless, you know, your body's going to change, your metabolism, metabolism is going to change. You mentioned with the recovery, that's going to change. You know, there are several things that are going to change in your life, but one of the things that you either need to keep going or change yourself intentionally is your mindset. Because mindset is huge when you get to be 40, 45, 50 and beyond.
Because we have this idea of once I reach this certain level, like I can't move like I once could and maybe, maybe you never will, right? Maybe you never will move like you once could. But as we progress through life today, we are setting the stage for three, six, nine years from now. So if you're 50, how do you want to look at 56? That starts today. Like you start to, you start to lay the, found the foundation for what you want to look like at 56. But far too many of us, we are, you know, I'm 38, right. And if I want to feel good at 40, that's two years away from me. That's, that's a year and a half away from me.
If I want to feel good at 40, like that all starts today. And maybe I'm not able to lift like I could at 25. Maybe I'm now not able to run or play like I could at 25, 30 years old, but it's, it's right back to that all or something mentality. I'm gonna go for a run today. I, I may not be able to run for four hours, but I'm gonna run. I'm gonna start with four minutes, then I'm gonna try to get to eight minutes, then a 12 minutes. I may not be able to deadlift 375 pounds. But I might be able to go deadlift 135 pounds. And, you know, all of these little deliberate decisions that we make play a huge role in, you know, how we feel at 45, 50, 55 and beyond.
[00:09:36] Speaker A: Yep. No 100%. And I had to. I had to throw out. Some.
Have to throw out. You. You brought up Tim Allen, man. I had to throw out James from Good Times. This is my favorite one. Yeah. Yeah, because he, you know, he had a big ball spot, and he was 34 when he played on that show, bro. Like, the dude was 34 years old playing Good Times. And that's just one of those things, man. It looks different. It's just a number. It's all about that mindset, man. But I really, you know, I really want us to hone in on just understanding that you don't have to settle. It's not an excuse. It's just a.
I mean, it's a fact.
Your number is a fact.
But how you respond, how you. How you, you know, you eat, how you work out or don't work out, all of that is mental. And, you know, right now, my parents are. Are getting up. They're getting up in age, and, you know, and I look like, you know, there's a neighborhood down the street. When you go down that neighborhood, like, there. There are ladies walking and some even jogging and moving and doing. I'm like, what se.
You know, the. The people that I know versus these people, like, what's that thing, man? And it all boils down to that mentality, man. Just having that mindset to just keep going and keep, you know, and. And not giving up and not making an excuse, you know, it's just one of those things. And I really. Like I said, I really look at it when it comes to my parents, and I try to, you know, implement stuff, because a lot of it is they weren't taught. Like, they don't know. And so wherever I can, you know, give them info, like I was telling you about my dad and, you know, standing up without assistance and, you know, when my mom is just, you know, getting the knowledge, not settling, and then, you know, moving past, man. And so I think that's super important, you know, because even if this podcast necessarily ain't for you, man, you could take this message to someone that you love that have that mentality of, I'm. I'm old or I'm too old or I'm getting old and just help them flip it, you know, and it all starts with, you know, hey, my Favorite quote is, look at me now. Like, look at where I'm at right now. Like, this is your perfect picture that you don't have to settle for what you got going on.
[00:11:53] Speaker B: Yeah. You know, a lot of folks will say my best years are behind me, you know, and we get into that, that thought process, like, oh, I guess this is just what 40 feels like. I guess this is just what 50 feels like. I guess this is just what gaining weight. Gaining weight is a part of the process.
I guess I'm going to be tired for the rest of my life. I just can't move, you know, like I used to all of these things. It goes right back to that settling concept in the mindset. Right. The mentality. And when you can start to.
It really comes down to choices and decisions. When you can start to decide, hey, man, this is not how I want to feel at 40. I'm gonna do something about it. I'm gonna make the tough decision. I don't want to strength trading today. And that's, that's, that's honestly the cue to go when you don't want to do something, but it will instill positive change or, or some sort of evolution in your life. You go, go, go, go, go. Right? And you mentioned, like, if this podcast isn't for you, there is always, and I'm saying always, somebody in our lives that can benefit from what we're talking about. You may have a mom or a dad, you may have a grandma or grandpa and uncle, kids even, right. That are not taking responsibility of their lives. And they're just saying, this is how I'm going to feel. Right.
Take this podcast to them. Tell them to listen, train, start training like you're strong. Start training today for your future, and really hammer home the mindset piece with all of these people that you care about.
This is not how 45 has to feel. This is not how 55 has to feel. This is not How 65 has to feel. I'm done complaining. I'm done making excuses. I'm going to make that shift for myself and I'm going to start taking some responsibility, and that's a massive step that we can all take. Share this podcast with somebody that you love, that needs that transformation.
And Honestly, if you're 40, 50, 60, beyond whatever your age is, and you are somebody that's struggling with that mindset of, this must just be how it feels at this age. Get out of that. Get out of that mindset. Start to engage in the mindset of, I don't have to feel like this. I don't have to. I'm going to do something about it. I'm not incapable. I'm not weak. I am strength. I am courage.
[00:14:09] Speaker A: That sounds like a good closing, brother.
That sound like a good closing. But I, I will say this before I give you the close is. You know, there's a, you know, our friend Gary Vee talks about it all the time, man. A lot of, a lot of millionaires and billionaires got that idea in latter years. They, you're, you're not too old. You know, I think it was, was it Colonel Sanders, you know, in his 70s, you know, you know, he could have gave up, but he came up with something that revolutionized chicken man. So not only on the physical side, but on the personal side, on the business side, you're not too old. It's never too late. You always, there's always today.
There's not tomorrow is not promised, but there's always today. All right, Brad, what you got?
[00:14:54] Speaker B: Hey, how about that KFC though? I tell you what.
Hey, so it's inevitable to get older. We all are getting older as we speak. We are aging, but getting older and giving up are two completely different decisions. Make yours.
[00:15:14] Speaker A: Let's get it.
Solid work.
