[00:00:00] Speaker A: What up, what up, what up, what up? Welcome back to the Bad Podcast. Brad and Duane in here with Brad. What's up, Brad? What we doing today, man?
[00:00:08] Speaker B: Yeah, we're gonna talk about appreciating the journey, appreciating life and how it will take you to places you ain't never been.
[00:00:16] Speaker A: Well, let's go.
[00:00:20] Speaker B: Are you ready? Are you ready?
[00:00:36] Speaker A: What it looked like, would it be like, what it do? Back in here, Another episode of the Bad Podcast. Brad and Dwayne coming to you. Another week, another podcast, man.
Brad, we're a little ahead, so this episode isn't real time when you're hearing it. We've already dropped it. We already recorded it by the time you hear it. But nevertheless, all the inspiration, all the motivation, all the things is still relevant, man. And that's what makes this podcast so good, man. They can start anywhere, any place, and is relevant to where they are in their fitness journey and their personal journey, wherever they are, man. So super excited, bro. What you got?
[00:01:12] Speaker B: Yeah, well, watching that. That intro always just has so much nostalgia. Gets me in my feels to kick things off, man. And it. It really just ties so nicely into the topic of the day. And the topic of the day is appreciate appreciation. And just looking back on all those. Those. Those quick clips, those meetup clips, and, you know, the stage clips and the Iron man clips and all that stuff, it just. It reminds you that, you know, a lot of times in our lives, we have expectations, and, you know, those expectations are not always met.
And to replace expectation with appreciation. Now, Tony Horton was quoted, or, excuse me, Tony Robbins, one of the great motivations.
Yeah, yeah. The other Tony, he was quoted saying, trade your expectations for appreciation and your whole world will change in an instant. And I've been thinking really hard about this lately, and I think he's spot on in that sense. And now without.
Or.
I want to talk about this before diving in, I think expectations are fantastic. I think having standards and goals are, you know, something that we have to have to push forward.
But the problem is, is we attach our happiness to those expectations. And if we don't, you know, accomplish what we said we were going to accomplish, we get frustrated, we get discouraged, you know, and we get, you know, we. We become this person that is.
That says things like, I should be further.
Instead of appreciating how far they've come, they say things like, why is it taking so long? Instead of, I'm fortunate to. To have worked, you know, this far, this long. My kids are driving me crazy. Instead of There will eventually be a day that my house will be quiet, you know, and I'm going through that right now where, you know, I have an expectation for my kids to be like following the rules and doing everything from top to bottom and step by step.
But I catch myself, you know, after hearing that quote, getting myself into that appreciation mode. And I think this is so applicable to fitness because we do become discouraged if our expectations are not met and if we can start to just appreciate, you know, where we are in the process, where we are in the journey, where are you in the season of your entire life?
I think it will put us ahead of the game.
[00:03:45] Speaker A: No, absolutely, you know, fitness for sure. And our audience for sure because they've, they've experienced some things and then they expect, you know, that, that, you know, something's gonna, is gonna be different this time or it's gonna achieve, you achieve something in a certain amount of time. And that expectation, you know, like you said, we want, we want to put some expectations on ourselves. But like you said, I love what you said when you said don't put your joy in that, don't put your happiness in that. Because although the, you know, you locking down and doing the things that work before is not giving you the exact same results, you should appreciate where you are. You should appreciate that you, you've taken a step towards it. You should appreciate that you're not on the couch, that you, you are trying, you are making attempts. And I think the, you know, you got Always quote Gary Vee A lot, man. A lot of times we, we always, we feel like we should, like you said, we feel like should be ahead. And I see that so often in, in our age range, man, that 30 to 40, you know, we feel like, you know, we should be this and we should be that when, when Realistically, man, there's no time limit on success.
You know, there, you know, there's no time limit on when, when that thing is going to take off, when that, you know, when you, when your habits are going to kick in, you know, and, and as long as you believe that you're, you're behind, you're too late, man. You, you won't aspire to, to keep going, man. So I think this is a really.
Yeah.
[00:05:22] Speaker B: And I think it kind of, it kind of saturates our self belief a little bit or not saturates. I guess it kind of is almost like a, a drought sort of thing. It droughts your, your self belief if you have expectations tied to your happiness.
Because like you said, there's there's no timeline, there's no time frame, that success like falls into place. And I, I find myself in that appreciation more mode, more now than I ever have. Because just for example, that video that leads up to this podcast, like looking at who I was five years ago, leads me to 10 years ago, leads me to 15 years ago. And you better believe that that version, the 25 year old version of me, the 18 year old version of me, like that person right now is looking at me just being like, golly, I'm proud of you. And it's hard to take ourselves out of body and put us 10 years ago, 20 years ago, and look at us today.
Because when we're in where we're in the first person, like right here, I find it very difficult to appreciate where I'm at without looking back and like looking at my past and saying, oh, man, wow. I, I had, you know, I had a lot of issues. I had a lot of behavior issues, I had a lot of routine issues when I was in my twenties. But today I don't have those, you know, I'm, I'm not who I was at 18, I'm not who I was at 28, I'm not who I was At 35. I am where I'm at today in a culmination to all those things. So I think, you know, when once you can get into that appreciation mode and stop saying I'll be happy when, right.
There's something to be happy about right now. Right? There's something to satisfy that desire right now. And that's the thing that's going to attach you to those expectations instead of having your expectations attached to your joy and your happiness.
[00:07:11] Speaker A: Yeah, man. And you know, the funny thing is, if you don't identify it now in your present, the when the win happens, you're still gonna have the same issue. There are, we talked about this, man. There are millionaires and billionaires who are not happy, you know, so a lot of people think, man, I'll be happy when I make a million dollars when I, you know, hit this number. But the, there's no happiness in that. There's no joy in that. You know, I follow enough of them to know, you know, and that's the first thing they say, you know, that, that, that doesn't bring you, you know, money don't bring you happiness. It doesn't, man. You have to find, you know, the things you appreciate now. And, and ironically, and I talked to Jeff about this, he talked about this a lot. Ironically, it's the simple things, man, the things that we take for granted right now in this moment that, that, those folks, they miss, they, they, they, they long for, you know, they, you know.
You know, some people know Jeff, Jeff love cars and things. He was like, man, you know, if I could have a, a Ford Taurus that run and, you know, it's simple, you know, simple life, you know, regular job, regular check, you know, it just, all the stress, you know, I mean, he's not taking for granted, you know, the success. It's beautiful.
[00:08:29] Speaker B: We love it.
[00:08:29] Speaker A: But understanding that the, the humble beginning is a great place to be appreciative, is a great place to kind of get your grounding and, and if you can get it here, if you can get it here, man, when the, when the thing comes, when the one day comes, it's going to be that much more, that much better. But if you're always looking for that one day, that thing to bring you that, I'm gonna go ahead and I'm gonna give you the Cliff Notes. It ain't gonna happen for sure.
[00:09:00] Speaker B: Cliff Notes. Anybody that's younger than I am has no idea what Cliff Notes are.
They know what AI is. They don't know nothing about, you know,
[00:09:08] Speaker A: Cliff, you're right, you're right, you're right.
Demographic, got it. You young kids, don't look it up.
[00:09:18] Speaker B: No, you're spot on. And I want to go back to that Dodge Stratus or what not, whatever you set for.
I had a Dodge Stratus, man. And you know, some of the things that we complain about today are the things that we once begged for, we once dreamt for. We put our hands together and says, I want to be at this point in my life. And the things that you have today are those things that you're complaining about. But 18 year old version of Brad, like my, my dream truck still today, my dream truck is a GMC Denali. That's what I drive today, right? At one point in my life, that was merely a dream. And now I have that. And now I'm like, oh man, gas prices and oh man, the truck is white and it's hard to keep clean and all of these things. And I think sometimes we are so obsessed with just being. We're so obsessed with, you know, with building a life that we desire that we forget that, man, we already have it pretty good, you know. And I just, I, I really struggle with this topic because I'm just using myself as an example. Like if my kids are loud and they're out of Control and. And all of these things. Like. Like, this is something that I prayed for at one point in my life. This is something that I was like, I. I so badly gravely want this. And now that I have it, a loud house is something that I'm like, oh, man, you guys are being too loud last night. So, you know, a lot of people know that I travel for work, and I was in Charlotte recently, and I got home, and my kids were fighting, and I was like, hey, I gotta show you guys something. And this is a part of that appreciation, right? So I gotta show you guys something. So I. I pulled up this old video of Macho Man, Randy Savage, and the. And the ultimate warrior fighting.
My kids were going bonkers, right? And. And then, of course, they went off to reenact the fight, all of that stuff. But, like, I found myself just letting go of that expectation of having a calm, quiet house and just, like, falling, like, just being obsessed with being appreciative of that moment. And, like, yeah, all. All the worries just see, seem to fade away. Like, all the stress just seem to fade away. And it was one of those moments I was like, golly, like, this. This is what it's all about.
[00:11:32] Speaker A: This is.
[00:11:33] Speaker B: This is peace, man. This is. This is. This is a part of chasing more, right?
[00:11:37] Speaker A: Yep.
No. 100%, man. That's. That's beautiful. You know, we used to have those wrestling pillows that were shaped, man, you should tear them jackers up.
Everything, man. That's what that remind me of. But, you know, there's an old gospel song, man. It's a. It's called I'm blessed. Better than blessed. But one of the lines that speaks to what we're talking about, she was like, I once complained that I had no shoes, and then I found a man with no feet to use. Like, it's perspective, man. Like, we. We. We get. Like you said, you. You're complaining about the noise, but it's the very thing that you. You really want it, man. And so that we have to take that perspective. You know, of course, we all want all the things and whatever, but what you have right now, you're blessed, man. You have something amazing right now. And if you switch to appreciating that as opposed to, you know, just kind of neglecting it. And. And we're not saying being, you know, content is good. You know, you should be content in your spot, but we also want you to be ambitious. We're not saying. Not do that. We want you to just realize that where you are right now, currently is a great place. And like, and, and taking that perspective, man, that the 18 year old you, the 25 year old you, they didn't even see what, what they're looking at right now. They didn't even know it was possible, you know, so definitely take that in, man, when, when you listen to this.
[00:13:04] Speaker B: Yeah. And I think some people get mixed up or confused because they think gratitude will kill hunger. Gratitude's not going to kill your hunger. It keeps hunger from consuming you. Right. So, you know, if you're driving a Dodge Stratus like I was driving when I was 18, like, be grateful for that. If you're driving a GMC Denali or a Chevy Corvette or, or a Maserati, like, be grateful for that.
Great. Gratitude doesn't kill hunger.
It just, it just keeps hunger from consuming you.
You know, we're not telling you to stop climbing. We're not, we're not telling you to stop pursuing your dreams or to stop dreaming, period.
We're just, we're just telling you to appreciate the view while you're climbing, while you're in pursuit. Just look around and say, golly, I, I do have it pretty good. I do appreciate the life that I have today.
[00:13:55] Speaker A: Yeah, no, that's good, man. That's so good. Because that, that's something that we, I mean, we have to do. We can't, we can't let it consume. I like that. Because, you know, hunger is eating, so you don't want it to, to consume you, man. You, you don't want that, that to get you to a place where you're, you're not grateful, you're not, you know, you're not happy. You know, I think that that in itself is the message, man. Like, don't let it consume you. Be grateful for where you at.
[00:14:22] Speaker B: For sure. Yeah. Yep. I, I mean, I, I could talk about this topic for days and days and days. And when I heard that quote, it was one of the Instagram things, I heard that quote from Tony Robbins and I was like, man, I just, that, I don't know, it just hits different when you have kids, I think, and, and when you are hungry for more and you're always trying to climb the mountain of success and you know, success is, is defined differently as anybody. And I think it was Gary Vee. He's like, I know a lot of people that make 30 grand that are the happiest people in the world. I know a lot of people that make 30 million a year and they're just miserable. So you know what you have in your wallet, like, appreciate it, you know, what you. What you have in your home, because your wallet, it may double in size tomorrow. It may cut your size in half tomorrow. You know, the. The. The noise that you have in your home, it may be quiet tomorrow. And I was just talking. So school's back in session for us, and all summer, my. My older kid Beckett was home all summer. And, you know, he's not a quiet kid. He's not one of those crazy loud kids. He's my firstborn. But he was, you know, being a kid, and he would, you know, have. Have some ruckus. You know, he's six, and the house was loud all summer. And the day that we sent him back to school, house is quiet, right? Again, having that expectation of a calm, quiet house like, that just. It just, like, kills your appreciation for those moments. And when my house was quiet, I will tell you what you want to talk about miserable. I want my house loud. I want it chaotic. I want it just. I, you know, I just want it wild all the time. I want my kids to be screaming. I want my kids to, you know, appreciate their home because, you know, we appreciate them in our home, you know, And I don't know, man. I could talk about this forever. And one other thing that I saw on Instagram just recently, this lady was, you know, she was reading through some of her comments on her Instagram post, and she was like, one of the posts was. Or one of the comments was, ah, man, I wish. I wish I had a nicer shirt. And then it flashed to this kid in a third world country, and he didn't have a shirt. And it was the same concept as that of that song that you were just talking about.
Another comment was like, I wish I had nicer shoes. And it flashed to a kid with no shoes and so on and so forth. And you guys can paint the picture yourselves, but there are so many people in this world that are wishing, hoping, and dreaming that they are in your circumstance, right? They're in your position. Even your younger self is probably wishing, hoping and dreaming that they are where you are today. So appreciate it, guys. Don't stop climbing. Just appreciate the view. Look around. Enjoy it.
[00:17:00] Speaker A: Sound like a close to me Nah, man. Before we get out, man.
Listen, y', all, we appreciate you guys.
You know, speaking of appreciation, you know, we. We, of course, we want a million views. Of course we want a million subscribers, but we appreciate the ones that tune in. We appreciate the ones that share and. And shout out to the lady. I forgot there was A lady that reached out and, and because I uploaded the same episode for the new week, and she was like, hey, this is the same episode. I need, I need a new one. I'll be listening to these. That you don't know that that message, I, I, it, I loved it because it lets me know that people are listening. A lot of times me and Brad get on here, we don't even know. So every time you guys share and, and tell us about it, we, we appreciate it, and we appreciate the journey, man, that we're on. So, Brad, anything on the way out?
[00:17:53] Speaker B: No, I think that's just a good message for you and I, Dwayne. You know, we have an expectation that we're putting out good content, and we should have a million views, we should have a million subscribers. But, but appreciating the, the hundred, two hundred people that watch this consistently week in and week out, and we, you know, we, we've heard this firsthand. We've been to meetups where somebody comes up to us and says, hey, you changed my life, and if it wasn't for you, I don't know if I'd be here. Like, that stuff right there, that, that's enough for you and I to keep going. And that's, that's enough proof for you and I to, to, to say, hey, man, it may not be 10,000 viewers, it may not be a hundred thousand viewers, but, but the five people, we changed their lives today.
That's all I need.
[00:18:32] Speaker A: That's it, man. Till next time, y'. All.
[00:18:37] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:18:38] Speaker A: Boom, boom.
[00:18:43] Speaker B: Yeah.
