[00:00:00] Speaker A: What up, what up, what up? Welcome back to the Bad podcast, Brad and the Wayne Bradley. Bradley. What are we talking about today, man?
[00:00:07] Speaker B: We're gonna talk about that Sophie, Dennis Rodman style get up mentality.
[00:00:12] Speaker A: I know it, man. You gotta do the point. You gotta do the point.
[00:00:19] Speaker B: Are you ready? Are you ready?
[00:00:35] Speaker A: What it looked like, what it be like, what it do. Back in here, another episode of the Bad podcast. Brad and Dwayne, super excited to be coming to you another week, man. I might, man. Brad, after our meeting, man, I might drop this on a Saturday, man. I don't wanna.
[00:00:49] Speaker B: I like it. I'm in.
[00:00:51] Speaker A: Nah, we, you know, we look at numbers, man, we look at algorithms and all of that stuff. You know, you have to be diligent. And we noticed that a lot of people look at content on Friday, Saturday, Sunday, which is the opposite of regular socials, man. We always hear you got to hit them Monday through Friday. So I didn't mean to get into a whole social media deal, but you might be, listen, you might be tuning into this on a Saturday, man, but I'm excited nonetheless.
I actually took some time, Brad, during our call, in between our call to look at some comments, man, and man, the community has been commenting, showing love and, and I just went through and read a whole bunch, man, and just. I want to shout out everybody at least comments. We read them, we love them, we appreciate you guys continue to do that, continue to spread the word about this podcast, man. And yeah, I'm excited to talk about the, the Sophie slash worm, if you. You will mentality, man.
[00:01:53] Speaker B: I like it, man. You know, just to kind of pivot it. It's as if we just got off a social media meeting there in the beginning of this podcast. I.
But, you know, I, I've been asked so many times over my life, you know, who's. Who's the goat in basketball? And we've always Talked about the LeBron debate, the Michael Jordan debate, and, you know, I've also been asked, like, who's my favorite basketball player? And growing up, one of the hottest, probably most controversial basketball players that I grew up watching, and maybe you did too, was the worm was Dennis Rodman. He had played for the Pistons and the spurs and the, in the Bulls and the Lakers and. And he bounced around the league for a little while. He was my absolute favorite player back in the day. He was so controversial and, you know, he wasn't afraid to express himself in the slightest.
But fast forward to today.
There's a. There's another individual that's been hot in the. In the social media eye. And that's Sophie Cunningham. She plays with the fever, I think.
[00:02:56] Speaker A: I don't.
[00:02:56] Speaker B: I don't follow the WNBA like that. I. I see her.
She's always in the. In the news feeds and always in the social media feeds. You know, she's always, like, bleeding out of the mouth and just all that. That raw enthusiasm and that raw intensity. And that's kind of what I want to talk about today. You know, that's something that can be fabricated in a life, you know, And a lot of us, all of us, not a lot of us, all of us will be knocked down in our lives. And the whole point of anything worthwhile in life is getting back up. And I've seen so many instances where she was knocked down. She was, you know, taken down by the shoulder, whatever, and she's. She's always getting back up. And, you know, she just has so much in common with Dennis Rodman. And I. Like I said, I don't. I don't watch the WNBA like that, but if I were to get into the wnba, I'd probably be rooting for the Fever, not because of Caitlin Clark, but because of Sophie Cunningham, because she's my. My kind of dog.
[00:03:56] Speaker A: Nah, I like it, man.
Yeah. You know, Dennis, you know, he. He has an amazing story. Like, I watched the documentary, like, he was like, five, seven, you know, in high school, and, like, woke up one morning, he was like six. Something like he had an amazing, you know, was not. Didn't really, like, care for basketball like that. It was like, something to do. And he just. He was a different kind of dude, man. But I remember, and I. He. He actually joined E2M. A buddy of mine, I went high school with Dennis.
No, no, no, no.
[00:04:30] Speaker B: I mean, I get excited. Wait a minute.
[00:04:32] Speaker A: No, no, no, no. My buddy Gary, man, from high school, he. When I tell you he was our worm on the team, like, he came to the sideline, he had a towel, he took his shoes off. Like, you could not tell this meter. And he was. He was the same kind of player. Like, all the hustle points, all the, you know, the defense, the rebounds. Because I think that that speaks to something else, Brad. Like, the things that make, you know, Dennis and. And. And Sophie different, like you mentioned, they're. They're not the. The Caitlin Clark shooting the threes, you know, it's not the Michael Jordan fade away. They're doing the. The grind work, the grunt work. You know, rebound is not flashy. There's nothing pretty about you Know, getting a rebound. There's nothing pretty about diving on the floor. There's nothing pretty about, you know, playing defense. And so they found love and passion in. In the grind, man. And that. That's, you know, that's pretty much what it was. And, you know, before Dennis, you know, you. You saw the stat sheet. Yeah. So it says rebound, but Dennis just. He just made. He just took it to a whole nother level. He put a personality with, you know, the grind and. And that, you know, that kind of all played together.
One of my. My favorite stories about him is there was in. There was warming up, and he was just standing there looking at the rim. Yeah, they're looking at the room, man. And Jordan's like, man, you ain't gonna shoot. You ain't gonna. He's like. He's like, what are you doing? He's like, I'm. I'm calculating how many times the ball spin and how it hits the rim and which direction is going.
[00:06:12] Speaker B: And.
[00:06:13] Speaker A: And he was like, yeah, you're different, bro.
[00:06:16] Speaker B: And, you know, it's just. For those that don't know what we're even talking about when it comes to basketball, you're wondering why we're talking about. This is, you know, the Sophie Cunninghams, the Dennis Rodmans, those. Those grind players, right? The ones that are willing to get on the floor. The reason that we bring these folks up is because they are making a choice, right? They're making a decision.
And how can basketball and these two players. Players, how does this relate to our lives?
You know, in the fitness game and just life in general is every single day, you're. You're gonna have your. Your, Your. Your adversities and your peaks, and you're gonna have days that you feel unstoppable. You're gonna feel like Michael Jordan, you're gonna feel like Kate and Clark. But there's gonna be more days than not that you're just gonna be knocked down and you're gonna have to make a decision, make a choice to grind through those days and. And not expect the journey to always feel good.
I remember that. I think it was in the documentary. You know, he just stood under the. The hoop, and the ball hits here, it's going to bounce there. If it hits there, it's going to bounce there. If this. If this player shoots it, it's going to do this. And, you know, that's just that next level commitment to. To really fine tuning your craft. And there are so many people within the E2M community that have a craft that's very specific to them. Everybody has, has a craft and something that they can hone in on, but, you know, finding your craft and not trying to replicate what somebody else is doing as far as what they're physically doing, but finding that mentality, finding that, that decision making skill and really honing in on your craft and, and, you know, bringing the energy, right?
Good days and bad days, you got to do your absolute best to, to bring that positive energy because like, what's, what's the alternative? Right, right. Like you put out into the universe that you're, you know, negative vibes and, and, you know, toxic energy, like that's, that's going to full circle you every single time. So do what you can do to make the decision.
Bring the energy, you know, be the, the, the toughest version of yourself even through the hard times of, of fitness in, in life.
[00:08:22] Speaker A: Yeah, I think this also goes to the, the comparison thing. Like, you know, Dennis, you never, he never compared himself to, you know, Scotty Jordan. He never tried to be something that he wasn't. You know, he stayed in his lane. You know, I mean, I even take it back to the, to the, the Piston days, man. I mean, he, he, he never, he never tried to be Isaiah or Dumars or, you know, any of those guys. He found his space and he stayed in it, man. And I think that there's something we can definitely learn from that, you know, don't compare yourself.
And then another thing, bro, and this is big for me, it might necessarily apply for, you know, personal fitness journeys, but being a team player, bro, like having, being willing to stand up, get knocked down all in the name of the, the big picture, you know, the, the big picture of the win. It always, you know, my, my saying is, you know, I don't, I don't care if I score, man, as long as we win, you know, and that's, that's the kind of mentality that that this whole attitude brings, man, is like seeing the big picture. If you're a part of a team or your accountability group, your accountability group or whatever, like, you don't, it ain't have to be, you don't have to be the star in, in every, every form or every place, man. You can, you can be a role player, you can get those rebounds, you can take those charges, you know, things like that, man. So I think it's super important that we, we understand that aspect that those kind of players bring and then see how they can apply to our, our lives, whether it's fitness, whether it's professional wherever it all applies.
[00:10:06] Speaker B: Yeah, and, and you had mentioned that it didn't really tie into the fitness side of things, but I think it 100 does, because you even full circled it and went into the accountability piece. And, you know, fitness, especially with what we do, Dwayne, can be, can feel a sense of loneliness because we are virtual. And, you know, although you and I, we, we meet a minimum of one time a week and our clients will see us, you know, two or three times a week, we are, you know, scattered throughout the country. And so those accountability groups, being a team player, right, are so very important because there are certain things, there are certain things in life that are contagious, like toughness, right? That's contagious. Your energy, that's contagious.
You know, the willingness to get back up when you're, when you're getting, when you get knocked down, that's contagious. Celebrating other people's wins, right? Being competitive within yourself to, to raise that standard and raise that personal bar so everybody around you does the same thing. And then, you know, again, you know, we, we've talked about this before. You raise that standard, raise that standard, raise that standard, then you become the standard, right?
So I think that ties in perfectly to what we're talking about.
And just by you holding yourself to your personal expectations, that's, that's, that's being a team player, right? Because you are room, you are making your team, you are making your fit fam better just by holding yourself to that standard. So I think that's, I think it ties in, in very well, you know, and, and, you know, I, I mentioned this being the virtual thing.
I've had people reach out to me personally and be like, man, I'm, I'm doing this all alone.
You know, there's nobody in my house that's, that's supporting this journey. There's nobody at work that's supporting this journey. And sometimes, you know, those physical relationships that we have, you know, they're a lot heavier than the, the virtual, you know, the, the through the screen relationships. But, you know, if you can exchange cell phone numbers or exchange, you know, just messenger information, like, that's, that's the accountability. That's the, that's the chance for you, each and every one of you, to just, you know, really create a bond and hold each other accountable.
[00:12:13] Speaker A: Nah, you're right. You're absolutely right, man. That, and that's, that's a piece that a lot of people overlook. But there's so much value in It. And, you know, we could talk about that every week.
[00:12:23] Speaker B: Sure.
[00:12:24] Speaker A: The value of just finding your people and trying to find some people that connect you and. And keep pushing you.
[00:12:30] Speaker B: For sure. Yeah. Proximity. I. I mentioned it last week when I was in town. Proximity, like, who. Who's immediately to the left of you or who's immediately to the right of you. And if those people are not supporting your journey, you know, some of those people, you can't cut them out of your life. They're blood. Right.
But, you know, if you have somebody in your life that's not supporting something that's very important to you, you really have to rethink who you're rocking with, you know, So I. The reason that I had mentioned proximity last week while we were recording for Motivate Duo was because I was walking and going stride for stride with Jeff, you know, and he's. He's the goat. He's the guy that founded E2M. He's the guy that everybody strives to be like. He's. He's the standard, right.
[00:13:14] Speaker A: He's.
[00:13:14] Speaker B: He set the bar for each and every one of us. And being alongside of him, being in that proximity, he was driving me, he was pushing me, he was motivating me, but I was, in turn, doing the same to him. And it's funny how speeds progressively get a little faster, the reps get a little quicker, and that's just one person pushing another, pushing another, pushing another, and that's contagious stuff.
Um, you know, be. Be in the. The same zone or be in the same circle as somebody that's going to push you, not hold you back, you know, because it's easy to find people to hold you back. It's scary when you see friends or family members taking on these endeavors because, you know, at one point, they probably had an opportunity to do something similar, and they were too afraid to make that decision, to make that choice and take that action, to go, you know, pursue that dream.
[00:14:08] Speaker A: Yeah. Yeah, man. Yeah, you guys. I was there. You guys kept. Kept going, and the people are going to pay for it later.
[00:14:18] Speaker B: I'm still paying for it to today.
I'm still paying for it a week later.
[00:14:23] Speaker A: Yeah, man. So if you don't know what we're talking about. Motivate Duo is now live inside of the E2 and Premium app. Each workout, you get two coaches. Sometimes it's Brad and Jeff, sometimes it's Brad and Mandy. Sometimes you just never know, man. It's me and Nanette and me and Aisha, and we're doing core. So when you see me on the screen, if you need to know when to take breaks, just watch me. I got you. No problem.
I will show you when you can take breaks because them core workouts are brutal.
But now we're excited about motivate duo and about the things that's coming.
We got some more things coming, man. And so we've been busy. It's been a busy couple of busy couple of weeks and.
And, man. So Brad, man, we get ready to land this plane in anything you want to touch on or we're going to close it out.
[00:15:15] Speaker B: What we doing one of the viral things with Sophie Cunningham. Is that that the point in the thing or whatever? So, you know, I think it's. We'll close it on this.
You know, it's easy to point the finger, right? It's easy to point the finger at anybody and everybody else. It's easy to point the finger finger and play victim and make excuses and blame somebody else for you not being where you want to be in life. But I want you to point that finger in the mirror today. I want you to point that finger at your cell phone on the selfie mode, and I want you to call yourself out, and I want you to take some serious responsibility. Own your life. You're gonna get knocked down. Expect that.
[00:15:54] Speaker A: Get back. That's right. Get up.
