[00:00:00] Speaker A: What up, what up? What up? Welcome back to the Bad podcast. Brad and Duane in here. Another week, another podcast, Brad, what we're
[00:00:08] Speaker B: talking about, brother, we're gonna talk about reigniting the flame and that we are not grandfathered into greatness.
[00:00:16] Speaker A: So what happened yesterday?
[00:00:18] Speaker B: Don't matter, sir.
[00:00:20] Speaker A: We'll find out.
[00:00:25] Speaker B: Are you ready? Are you read.
[00:00:41] Speaker A: What it looked like. Would it be like, what it do? Welcome back to the Bad Podcast. Stands for Brad and Dwayne. Super excited. Like I said before, come to you another week, man. I love doing this podcast, love talking to the people. And what I love more than all of that, Brad, is the feedback man. Shout out to everybody that's watching, that's posting, that's letting people know about the podcast, man. Super excited about that. And since. Since I. I got a. I'm gonna call this an indirect permission from the boss man. Today's episode is bought to you by Legion Supplements. Use my code, Dwayne21. Go to legion. Use my code, Dwayne21. Everybody's talking about protein. Everybody's talking about creatine. Why not go to a company that is third party tested?
Dwayne21 gets you a percentage off.
[00:01:32] Speaker B: So.
[00:01:33] Speaker A: And, And Brad, I'll tell you how I got that little side permission. He was like, hey, y' all should put y' all codes in the newsletter thing. So I was like, you know what?
We out here, baby.
[00:01:46] Speaker B: I'm gonna have to go hit up some. Hit up the discount code and get me some creatine then.
[00:01:50] Speaker A: Yeah, yeah, yeah. Legion, man. I. I love their creatine gummies.
It's a simple, easy way to get your, you know, five grams of creatine. And a lot of people don't know when you take creatine, you should take it with a carb source so that it's absorbed better. When you do it in gummy form, the carb source is already part of it. And so just. It ain't even shameless. Just a plug.
[00:02:18] Speaker B: Plug. Just for a minute.
[00:02:20] Speaker A: Yeah, man.
[00:02:22] Speaker B: Make sure you're drinking water. If you're. You're rocking the creatine, make sure you drink, you're hydrating, but, you know, absolutely should be hydrating regardless. Right?
[00:02:29] Speaker A: Absolutely. Absolutely. Great point. Great point, man. So let's get into it. Unless you got something, Brad. I mean.
[00:02:36] Speaker B: Okay, no, I'm just gonna. I'm gonna preface with an apology, guys. Up here in Western New York, it's. It's. It's hot, it's cold, it's ebb and flow. It's it's up and down and all around and, and we're, we're going through the weather. It's very emotional up here in the weather.
And so you'll, you'll just have to bear with my allergies.
But we are going to have a very good conversation today, Dwayne, because this is relatable to a lot of folks in E2M, outside of E2M, on the border of E2M, on fence, everything.
And the reason that I wanted to talk about this is because I had a buddy and he did E2M about four, four or five years ago and he had some massive success. And we know a lot of great transformation stories, right? And the first time that you do it, you get the trash bag out, your hydration's on point, you progress with your cardio, you do the high knees, you do the pushups, and you see the progress in that eight week span.
What happens a lot of times, I apologize.
What happens a lot of times is we feel a sense that we are owed that same success. We're grandfathered into that same success. When in reality, the torch isn't just going to be passed on for your next eight weeks. You have to reignite that, that torch. And I asked him, I said, well, are you doing 30 minutes of cardio and then 45 minutes of cardio, then 60 minutes of cardio? Because no, I'm just doing 30 minutes three days a week. I said, well, the first time that you did it, you progressed. You went 30, 45 and 60. I said, you cannot have the expectation of the results that you had five years ago if you're doing something different than that. Right?
And it was like a, it was like a, it was, it was like an aha moment for him. He's like, oh, yeah, I forgot about that. But a lot of us, we just kind of float along and we just kind of exist. We're complacent. We're not doing the same things as one as, as we once were. And we still had that same expectation to get the, that we're going to get the same results that we did three, four, five years ago.
[00:04:41] Speaker A: Yeah, man. No, that's, that's a deep topic, man. Just because, you know, it's. I think it may be human nature just to, you know, kind of ride the wave of the success and, you know, and feel like you put the work in already. You know, I put the work in.
You know, I'm just gonna ride the wave and expect things to continue to progress. But no, that that, that stage where you grind it where you, you know, you locked in. Whether it's like with E2M, you know, when you, when you was measuring that peanut butter, you know, like deep, deep. Hey listen, you, when you was measuring that peanut butter, man, you was locked in man, like when you was, when you was counting them nuts and weighing that, that protein and you know, cup to a half a cup like that, that's the part, man, that, that people forget. That's, that's. I mean if you want that kind of response, you have to put in that kind of effort again, you can't, can't put in the sideways effort. And you know, and the thing is, it's funny that his, his response was, you know, 30 minutes every day. So that is a cool standard. That is cool. You're, you're going to see, but you're not going to see the eight week transformation results unless you go about it like you did with the eight week transformation. And so that's, I think it's super important that people just understand like, you know, you, you just, because you did it back then, it's, it's the exact same focus, the exact same effort, which is not easy that you have to have in order to, to see those same kind of results.
[00:06:19] Speaker B: Yeah. And you know, one of the things that I, I continue to preach with the old eight week plan, right. It was a, it was specific to weight loss and a lot of folks have done the weight loss piece and they are content with where they are and now they're starting to build muscle and they get confused and they're like, well, I got to go back to that old eight week plan. That's that, that plan was specifically designed for dropping weight.
And if that's what your goal is, absolutely go do that eight weeks. And I, I always try to promote that eight week challenge because of the discipline aspect. Not even just the weight loss aspect, but the discipline. You're thinking, talking about measuring peanut butter, you're talking about asparagus week, fruit week. You know, I, I don't. The ACV like you, you go deep in some of the disciplinary facts of the eight week challenge. And, and so many people built this like fitness resume, right? But, but this, the standard that you are living by today, it doesn't care about your resume. For from what was you, you, you measure, you measured the peanut butter four years ago. Good. The standard doesn't care about that. Right. You had asparis, asparagus week. The standard doesn't care about that. It doesn't Care about your resume. It doesn't care about everything that you have earned in the past, because you got to earn it again.
That past success is proof. Sure, you can do it. Absolutely. But it's not permission to coast or go on cruise control. You got to show up and do it again.
[00:07:48] Speaker A: Yeah. And Mo, and most people, I mean, I, I can, I can raise my hand too. You know, you, you, you're in a different place you were than back when, when that was going on, man. And that's, that's a, it's a. The line, the start line is different. You know, some, some people, you know, no shame, no judgment. They, they are in places they were that's worse than where. What they was when they started the eight weeks, you know, so the understanding where you are in the process, in the journey, you know, and it's funny, man, because there's a lot of things that I've learned over the years. You know, I credit E2M for, I mean, just the trajectory of my career. But I remember, you know, doing eight weeks over, doing eight weeks over, thinking, okay, this is going to get me this physique that I had in mind, but I'm glad you brought it up. Like, it, yeah. To cause you to lose weight. But what I wanted, I wanted to, you know, be a little bit more muscular. So I, I, I'm saying this because you, you what? I want to make sure your goal lines up with what you're, what you're working hard at. And, you know, I, I talked to a lot of clients, man, over the years, and, you know, they're like, man, I want this, I want that. I'm a, I'm a lock in on eight weeks. I was like, well, I don't know if that's what you need right now. You, if this is what you want, you know, and I throw out another point. Brad and I, we used to say this all the time early in the podcast. You know, the eight weeks was so successful, it spoiled people in thinking all fitness results are this fast.
That is not the case. Building muscle is, ding, slow, grueling.
There is, is nothing pretty about building muscle, but weight loss can happen rapidly, man, and it's super important, man, that we know what our goals are, know what we're striving towards, understanding what we did in the past. Hey, it's great. We got the pictures. We show it off. Cool. But we still have to put in the work today to, to achieve those goals and put in the right kind of work to get to the goal that you're really trying to get to, man. I think it's just super important, man, when it comes to just knowing where you are.
Celebrating, yes, we celebrate that. But being able to move forward.
[00:10:11] Speaker B: Yeah. I always say happy but not content. And a lot of people, I think, are worshiping their old fire, right? And this is an opportunity to reignite that flame. And you brought up a great point. Like, a lot of people, they have these goals in their mind, but as soon as they start to head down one path, they're like, well, I got this goal. And then they'll head down another path. Well, I got this goal, though, you know, and we have clients like that. They're like, well, I wanna, I wanna lose weight. I wanna. I wanna add muscle. I wanna, I wanna get toned. You can really. I mean, you can absolutely do that, but it is a grueling, like you're saying, like, it's a grueling, slow, progressive process.
You gotta set your mind to what your goal is and really hone in on your goal and, and give it eight weeks, give it 16 weeks, give it 32 weeks before you start to pivot and go. Go towards another goal. You know, I, I'm a run coach, and a lot of these people are like, well, I want to, I want to get. I want to get jacked and I want to get toned. And will cardio do that?
Yes and no, right? Yes and no.
You know, you have to, you have to have muscular strength. You got to build that muscle. You gotta, you gotta lift some weights to. To get toned and to get fit like that.
Cardio alone, you know, a lot of the folks that, that listen to us are probably, they, they were born and raised in the car, the 90s, right?
And. And they, they had this, they had this skewed idea that cardio is just gonna make you look like somebody from Baywatch. And that's just truth. So my recommendation, and, and what I suggest you take from this podcast, if you take nothing else, write down your goals and, and not. Don't just write them down up here. Put it, Put a pen to a pad and, and write down your goals and then put that goal on the mirror. We talk about putting that pla. Putting that, that note somewhere where you're going to see it each and every day, because your discipline is. Is going to fade away. And, and there it is. Your. Your motivation is going to fade away. There it is. It's a constant reminder. I always, when I start to get, you know, faded away and, and start to get drowned out by all the noise. I. I usually put my little. Post it right in the bathroom. It's right there. It's somewhere I brush my teeth. Now, I will be honest. I have not put up a goal in my new house, and I've been here for almost four years, but in my old house, I would always have a goal in my bathroom. And anytime I go wash my hands or put my contacts in or brush my teeth, it's right there smacking my face. And it was just a nice reminder. Hey, this is where I want to be. This is what I want to do.
[00:12:46] Speaker A: Nice. Yeah, I'd be real and transparent. I've never done that in my life.
I've never, never done.
[00:12:54] Speaker B: You write your goals down.
[00:12:57] Speaker A: Not really, man.
This is real transparent.
Yeah, I. I'm. My mind. This the way it works. You know, I. I have a running list. You know, I have things. But.
And I know. I mean, it's even in the. In the Bible, like, you know, write your goals, make it plain. I. I know all the things, man, but I just have to be real with y'.
[00:13:18] Speaker B: All.
[00:13:18] Speaker A: I can't be fake. Like, I've never done that for it.
When. When I have a goal that I'm chasing, like, everything in my life revolves around it. You know what I'm saying? Like. Like, there is no forgetting for me, you know, like that. There is no not. Not feeling. Like, everything, whether it's even my job, even what I do with y', all, like, everything has an effect on the go. Because let's say, for an example, stepping on the show when it's time to step on the show, when it's time to step on the stage, everything I did led up to the stage. And what that means is that's, you know, when I'm recording the premium videos, that's extra workouts that count towards the stage. When I travel to Charlotte, I'm packing my meals because I'm going to the stage, like, so that's. That's the way I work. And no. No shade on anybody that. Write it down. Don't write it down. Like, I. I remember. At least you had a really good one. Like, you know, write positive note to yourself, put it in a fishbowl, and reach in later. I mean, that's dope. But I just. I'm. I've never done stuff like that, man. So just letting y' all know, man, it don't feel judged if you have or if you have it. We all a bit different. But I. I love the idea, and I. You definitely have to have Goals. You definitely have to have things that you're working towards.
But, you know, don't get caught up in the method because that might not work for you and Brad. I. You know what? I think the reason why I don't do that is because I.
I can become.
I don't know, like, if I see something, it loses value. Like, it don't catch my attention. You know what I mean? I can kind of become vision blunt. Like, I go wash my hand. Look at that note. It's. Oh, that. No, still there. It's getting wet.
[00:15:11] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:15:11] Speaker A: Oh, you know, you know, you know, like, it doesn't.
[00:15:14] Speaker B: It doesn't lose validity a little bit.
[00:15:16] Speaker A: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. And that. And that's something that. And I did. I noticed that whenever I was trying to memorize something early on in my life, and it was like, oh, put this, Put it here, put it there. And then eventually it's just like paper on the wall. You know, it had no. You know, I. But in saying all that to say still have goals, whether you write it down, whether you put a sticky note, whatever works best for you, find what works for you. If you never try writing it down, putting it on the mirror, whatever, you know, if you never tried that, try that. See if that works. If. If you need to sketch it out, do that. If you, you know, if you find a way to paint the picture in your mind, whatever it is, man, you. You should definitely do that thing, try it out, see if it can help you lock in. Because, you know, the. The goal of this episode is to get you to understand that you have to continue to put in the work to reach your goals. You can't rely on what you've done before. And in order to do that, you have to put things in place to keep you pushing forward to whatever that goal thing is.
[00:16:25] Speaker B: Yeah. 100am I. Am I freezing up on your side? Just.
[00:16:30] Speaker A: No, it was a little bit like earlier, but it's good, though. Am I freezing up on your side?
[00:16:35] Speaker B: A little bit. I don't know if it was me or you.
[00:16:39] Speaker A: Yeah, no, you're good.
[00:16:41] Speaker B: Yeah, yeah. All great points. And it's funny that you bring this up because I had a client and she's one of our near and dear. And I'm not going to shout out a name or anything, but she was saying something along the lines of, you know, seeing all the coaches every single day.
It kind of like lo. Not. Not loses its luster.
But like the. The. The power of one what once was right. You don't. You See somebody you know a few times and it's like just so powerful. But you see that same person over and over and over and you start to take it for granted. And I think that's what you're saying is you see that goal up on the wall, you start to take that for granted and you're like, I ain't even going to look at it anymore. Um, so you, you absolutely have to find what works for you. Whether that's, you know, putting it in the steel trap, whether it's having it physically on the wall, whether it's having it in your cell phone or on an iPad or computer. You got to find out your method in, in your strategy to hold you accountable. And I think that's the big thing is just the accountability piece in the moment. Like you can always look behind you and say, man, I, I was, I was him. I, I was her. I, I, I was, I was ripped up and shredded.
But you know, those, you, what you did, it's not a lifetime membership to the club.
They're just receipts showing you what you have accomplished. You got, you got to earn that membership, that lifetime membership every single stinking day.
[00:18:11] Speaker A: Yeah. Yeah. And it's funny, you, you brought something to my, to my, my memory when you're talking about, you know, putting it in your phone. I, trying something new.
So those that don't know I drive A20.
Might be 2008 Corolla, Toyota Corolla. Back and forth to Charlotte's got over 200, 000 miles on it. And yeah, she, she got some age on her. But I, I was like, you know what, I wanna, I've never had like a, like, I've never been into cars, like, and I was like, I never had something like nice, nice, you know, so I put a, a nice car. It wasn't crazy. It was like a BMW, you know, it was a BMW. I think it was a BMW, little two seater, nothing outlandish. I was like, I'm gonna put this on my wallpaper and this is gonna be my motivation. And I'm thinking like, I'm gonna try this. I, you know, never been that guy.
Yeah, that picture's not there anymore and I still drive the crowd.
It was up for a good minute. Like it might have been at least four months, at least. It was all through the summer. I mean, but the, the mission didn't change. Like I, because the whole thing was building my, my coaching thing, you know, my little, my, my ebook and the devotional, all of that and all of that still Moving along.
But it just. It was just a car on my screen after a little while, you know, and then I was like, you know, but the mission didn't change again, I guess it never left my mind. But I did try putting it on my wallpaper. Actually, I got that idea from my man Kayla Wilson, the former Tar Heel, now currently Chicago Bulls player.
Before every game, he would put something to make him mad about the team he was about to play on his own screensaver. And. And I was like, you know, I was trying to go that route, but, yeah, it did. So just putting it out there, I. I try. I mean, I try stuff too.
[00:20:21] Speaker B: So. Yeah. Yeah, I think everybody has the Met. Their own method to their own madness. And, you know, for me, I. I did the vision boards for a handful of years. I. I haven't done one in a couple years, but maybe. Maybe this is the reigniting I needed for the 2027 vision board, because I think it just. It gets. It gets the excitement going. It gets the. The juices flowing a little bit, maybe.
And I think, you know, sometimes you do need to shake it up and try something else. And, you know, maybe it works, maybe it doesn't work, but I. I think sometimes to. To shake things up, to keep you going in the right direction. I think that's. That's very important.
Yeah. So, I mean, try. Try something new. Go. Go and print out the BMW. Go out and print, you know, some tyra banks from 1993.
Goal. Lou Ferrigno circa 1987. Like, go print it out. And maybe that. Maybe that's your. Maybe that's your trick. I don't know. But find something that works for you, that holds you accountable today. It doesn't have you looking over the rear view, looking at your old fires, your old victories, your old accomplishments, and really, you know, put you in your place today and reignites you every day. Today. Today's a new day to reignite your flame. Don't, don't.
Don't live on yesterday's flame. I guess.
[00:21:53] Speaker A: I can't end on that, Brad. I'm sorry.
[00:21:56] Speaker B: Yeah.
Hey, listen, this is. This is how we'll. We'll end this, right? I think I already said this, too, but a lot of us, we worshiped. We worship past versions of ourselves. Stop worshiping the old dim light. Reignite the flame today and pour as much fuel on that flame as you possibly can.
[00:22:19] Speaker A: That's the ending right there. All right?
[00:22:29] Speaker B: Yeah.
