[00:00:03] Speaker A: What up, what up, what up? Welcome back again to the Bad Podcast. You guys don't know, but this is take two. But we are in here, man. Super excited. Another episode. Your favorite podcast. In here, my brother. Brad. Brad, what are we talking about today, baby? [00:00:15] Speaker B: We're gonna talk about that internal voice that can control us, but we will not let it control us. Turn it to page 76 if you got your prep rep, repeat book. To overcome the hurdles of daily life, it's crucial to recognize that the existence often resembles a battle. The sooner you accept that life's challenges require strategic effort, the quicker you can thwart the constant internal negotiations that arise each morning. Make a promise to yourself that on each day that you can place two feet firmly on the ground, you will rise and take a small risk. You will resolve to take that first step, whatever that may look like for you, and activate the momentum that will drive you forward. [00:00:54] Speaker A: I like it, man. Let's get into it. Are you ready? [00:01:00] Speaker B: Are you ready? Ready. [00:01:15] Speaker A: What it look like, what it be like, what it do? Back in here, man. Super excited to let you guys know. First, big announcement. Huge announcement. If you never had each one of them kitchen meals before, Huge announcement. We always had a code. Bad pod. One word as a code. Used to be 20% off. Now you can get 30% off your first box if you're a brand new customer to E2M Kitchen. If you don't know what E2M Kitchen is, we'll drop a little commercial a little later, but stay tuned for that. But yes, 30% off. Brad. We are the leading code providers for E2M Kitchen. Like, and I. I have to. We have to thank our listeners, man. You guys make that possible by using the code. I mean, you trust our recommendation using the code. We got word this week that the bad pod code leads all sales. So big shout out to you guys. You're amazing, and we appreciate you. So what they did to kind of reward is they upped it, man. We. Our value has upped in the. In, in, in the process, man. So now you get 30 off your first box of e2m kitchen. So go to e2mkitchen.com hit that bad pie. She went right by Brad. Hit that bad pie. I'm about to go chase down the mail, people. Y'all catching it real time. I'm actually gonna step off real quick, but hit that bad pie code to get 30 off. Brad, take it away. [00:02:45] Speaker B: Yeah. So, guys, I'm actually. I'm big on competition, and I. I talk about this often. You Know, competition is something that's. It's ingrained in our DNA. It's ingrained in our blood. It's deep within us. You know, we're born with a competitive edge, you know, and. And along the way, we lose that competitive edge oftentimes because of the. Of the. The calluses that are developed over time with teachers and coaches and friends and parents and siblings that tell us we can't do something or tell us we. We're not worthy, we're not strong enough. So I'm big with competition, and the reason that I bring that up, because I got my own personal code now. My, My main sponsor is E2M Kitchen for the Flying Pig Marathon. So for the rest of the month of April, if you use promo code, Run Brad 30, you get 30 off. So we use Run Brad 30, get 30% off, man. And, and, and honestly, guys, if it's your first order, you can use that promo code and then. And then shot over to a different email or something and use the Bad Pod 30 discount code as well. So I'm all about competition, man. So. But I want to dive right into the topic this morning, and I'm excited about this topic because this is a topic that everybody deals with. Everybody fights this, this same fight. And it's that internal voice. And a lot of people will say, well, I don't have that voice. That's the voice. You're. You're literally talking and negotiating with the voice right now. And this is. This is oftentimes our biggest enemy. It's our biggest opponent, and it lives within us. It's that. It's that. It's that voice that says, hey, let's make an excuse today. Let's find out. Let's find a way not to take action. Let's make it. Make a decision not to put ourselves in harm's way. And I. And I said it in that book. You know, you find yourself talking to yourself first thing in the morning. That's your first battle. When that alarm clock rings, you know, the first thing that goes through your mind is, do I really have to. Is it going to be worth it? Should I rise? Should I grind? Should I put that work in again? Man, I worked a little harder yesterday than most days. I could probably take a couple extra Z's. I've been working extra hard this week. I could probably grab a couple extra hours. Maybe today I will take a day off and you start to negotiate. You go to this negotiation system with that voice. And the, the problem is this. It's not it's not necessarily taking a rest day. It's taking the test day and not winning the test day. There's. There's difference between rest days and test days. If your legs are extremely sore and you need a rest day, absolutely 100%, take that rest day. But the problem lies here. Your mind will test you. That voice will test you. It will put you through a series of questions. Is today going to be worth it? Am I strong enough to keep going? Should I stay in bed? Should I get out of bed? Should I go to work? Should I not go to work? Should I have that conversation? Should I not have that conversation? And the problem is, is our voice knows exactly what to say to lead you to an excuse. Your voice knows every single one of your flaws. Your voice knows every single one of your vices, every single one of your addictions. And as soon as you think you have a breakthrough, this is what happens. Here's a vice. Take a taste. Try me. Cut a corner. Cheat. That's your voice, man. And. And the voice is always chasing or in pursuit of those temptations, those temporary highs that feel oh, so good in the moment. But what happens is over time. The 369 rule. The 369 rule. If you don't know what the 369 rule is, I've mentioned a handful of times, but if you don't know what the 369 rule is, take whatever decision or action that you're. You're doing in the moment. And will that have value in 3, 6, 9 hours, 3, 6, 9 days, 3, 6, 9 weeks, 3, 6, 9 months, and even furthermore, 3, 6, 9 years. Is what you're doing the decision that you're making, the action that you're taking right now gonna have a good payoff, or does it have value in 3, 6, 9, whatever. Whatever that, that, that. That time frame is for you. And you can apply it right down to the minute. If I, for me, if I eat cheese and pepperoni pizza with that, which. That is my weakness. I love me some cheese and pep. If I have cheese and pepperoni anywhere from two to three hours prior to bed, I don't sleep. I toss and turn all night. My wife doesn't sleep. My son doesn't sleep. None of us sleep if I eat cheese and pepperoni. So when I have cheese and pepperoni, pepperoni pizza, I break it down into that three, six, nine hours. I start with three hours. If I'm three hours away from bed, I will not have pizza. Six hours. I may, but again, you Use that principle. You use that standard 3, 6, 9 in all that you do, and you will see transformation in your life. You will see growth and self development in your life. But you can't get into that. You can't get into negotiating with that internal voice because the voice will always, it will always tell you to do the opposite thing. The then what is gonna give you value. And here's the reason why, folks. I'm a Rambler, so I'm just gonna ramble until Duane comes back on. But the reason is, is your brain is literally designed to keep you safe. It's designed to keep you out of harm's way. Let's just talk real life. I have my hand, I put it on the hot stove. What does my brain tell me to do? Pull back. Get out of there. That's hot. That stings. It hurts. That makes me feel some sort of way. Now let's apply it to fitness. Let's apply it to our lives. Self development, growth. If I get on a treadmill and I start running at a top, top speed, for me, my mind is going to have the same reaction. It's going to have the same feeling. Why? Because my body is perspirating. My legs hurt, they sting. Ouch. Pull back, pole, retreat, surrender. It's the same concept. When I start reading a book, you start having that mental distress. I don't know how to pronounce this word. And I become frustrated, I become discouraged. What do I do? It's natural to start negotiating, right? And the further that you regress in these, in these different realms or these different areas of your life, the harder it is to regain traction. Let me use this for an example. So I'm in the run world. And if I'm on a 13.1 mile run, that's a half marathon, and I get to the start line, I go toe to toe with the start line. There's 10,000 people around me. Man, I'm in good company. I have a lot of support here, a lot of inspiration, a lot of encouragement. This is going to be easy. I start the first mile out of those 10,000. There's still 9,500. Still pretty good. I still have a lot of inspiration. I'm, I'm motivated. I'm encouraged to keep going. As I look around and I'm surrounded by people that are doing the same thing that I am. I get to mile 3, 7000. I get to mile 5, 4000. I get to mile 7, 8, 9, 10. The crowd starts to dissipate. It starts to go Away, it starts to dwindle. Why is that? Because to stay in the game for the long game, people have excitement in the beginning. To stay in the game for the long game, it's very hard to convince your brain to tell you to keep going. But again, you further progress, further progress, further progress, further progress. Now I'm at mile 10. I did a. I did a. I did the Charlotte half marathon, and I got to mile 10, and then I got to a mile 11. A mile 11. There was a hill, and I. I had. I had a conversation in my head. I'm like, this may be the hardest thing I've ever done in my entire life. Was it? Probably not. I've done an ironman. I wrote a book. I've rode bulls. I've jumped out of planes. I've done a lot of crazy things. Probably not the craziest thing or the hardest thing I have ever done in my life, but in that moment, I started to let that negativity or let that doubt creep into my mind. I started to slowly negotiate. Bradley, retreat. Quit. Go back to the start line. If I'm talking about a race, it's like, brad, why would you go back to the start line? You've already fought for 10 miles of that race. You only have three left. I got to mile 11, and I started to think, like, this is the hardest thing I've ever done in my life, and it wasn't. But I started to negotiate with that voice, like, okay, man, I think I'm gonna give in. I think I'm gonna give up. I think I'm gonna quit. And when you. When you reference a race, you're not going to quit and go back to the start line. Like, you're not going to take back that 11 miles that you grinded out. But sometimes in life, we do exactly that. Like, we. We make it 11 weeks, and we're like, I think, you know, I think I'll. I'll take my foot off the gas now. Like, your. Your finish lines are. Are. Are always evolving, right? And when you reach that finish line, it's merely the next start line for the next thing. But you get that 11 days in, you get 11 weeks in, you get 11 months in, and you start to have those. Those funny feelings and those funny emotions, and we got to stop operating on feelings and emotion. We got to start operating on standards and facts. Like, I know for a fact, like, where my finish line is. It's at 13.1 miles. I don't get crowned at 11 miles. Like, I don't I don't get crowned at 11 weeks. I get crowned. I, you know, I get what I want to get. I get my goal, I get my milestone. Get that dream at the finish line and beyond. Like, why, why would I travel 11 months or 11 weeks or 11, 11 miles just to take all that work back? But you see it every day in fitness. You see it every day in, in life. [00:12:28] Speaker A: No, and, you know, I don't know if you covered this while I was chasing the male, male lady, but, you know, a lot of times we, the inner voice talks us out of finishing, you know, and I think we've even, we've mentioned that before just on the, the fact of, you know, cutting corners and, you know, just falling short and, and being right there at it and not, you know, following through. I think we, we all see that, man, and it's that inner voice, you know, and, and like I said, I don't know if you started going in that direction or not, but, you know, I immediately went to how, you know, you can train your inner voice to be, be positive, you know, and how you can, you can. And to be honest, you know, like, for me, because I'm an audio learner, so I, I hear like, people's voices like other people, you know, that, that motivate me. You know, I remember when I was a client, you know, I remember hearing you, you know, Brad, you know, some days, you know, like, you know, some, some sort of, you know, you know, mantra or saying you would say on, on, on Sunday Thunder. You know, I just, I could hear that and play that whenever, you know, whenever times get tough and whenever, you know, I wanted that my voice wanted to say something, you know, opposite. [00:13:47] Speaker B: Yeah. And one, one of the things that I talked about, Dwayne, is our, our. That internal voice knows more about us than anybody in the entire world. Like, it, it knows exactly what to say when you don't want it to say. It's like you have a vice right in front of you or if you have something that you, you know, you try or tempted to, to, to taste or whatever, that voice is going to tell you the exact excuse you want to hear. Oh, you know what? That Bon bond will be all right today. You know, you worked really hard yesterday. It'll tell you exactly what you want to want to hear. And, and you're absolutely right. You're. You have to really train or program your mind to be your greatest ally. Learn to control it. And, and you said one thing that I was going to touch on is mantras get Yourself, three to five mantras that you live by, man. One of my mantras for 20, 25 is if, if you fear it, chase it. Like, we're always afraid to do certain things. For me, if I see something I'm afraid of, like, man, I do not want to go for another 10 mile run, okay? I fear that thing. That's my cue to go, all right, I don't want to read my book right now. Okay? That's my fear. That's my cue to go. So mantras and daily affirmations, man, you have to affirm yourself at all costs. Because there's, I mean, plain and simple, man, like, most of the time, people in your circle want you to win. Most of the. Some of the time, a few of the times. But for the most part, man, yeah. I mean, nobody's going to affirm you. Like, you can affirm yourself. Like, you have to look yourself in the mirror and just say, man, you're worth it. You're strong enough, you're fast enough, you're whatever, enough. You're enough, period. And I've read this thing by, how do you say his name? Hormozi. Hormozi. He's the podcast guy. [00:15:30] Speaker A: Yeah, I know he's talking about. [00:15:31] Speaker B: But on, he said, and this aligns with, you know, if, if, if you don't have confidence. Confidence comes from reps. But he said, if you don't have confidence, leave evidence. And man, I, I thought that was really cool because, you know, by putting the reps in, that's the evidence. Like, you're, you're, you're proving to yourself that you absolutely do belong just by sprinkling, sprinkling that evidence along the way. Like, I, I talked about it, I think, last week. Like, I, I see another hockey goaltender, like, I could never make that. Say, well, I, I've done that same exact. Saved 150 times, two through 200 times. And that's the evidence. I'm sprinkling that evidence throughout my life. And that's what we got to do in fitness, in life. [00:16:16] Speaker A: Yeah, yeah, yeah. And a lot of times, you know, we, you know, like you mentioned, you kind of sell yourself short. You know, you see somebody else doing it and, you know, the, the old thing is, you know, why, like, you know, like, why, why I can't do that, you know, or, you know, why I could never do that. Like, you just, you know, you talked about the other goalie, but then you realize, man, I, I'm capable. Like, if they can do it, I can do it. And that's kind of the thing that I, I really hone in on just when it comes to just, you know, any challenge like if, if somebody make it possible, you know, then that, I mean, it's possible. For me, I think it's CT Fletcher, you know, that said, you know, impossible is always impossible till somebody crazy enough to make it possible. He just added some explicits to that. But, but it's so true, man. I mean, you know, everything like, you know, back in the day they thought it was impossible to, you know, slam dunk a basketball. You know, they thought it was impossible to run a 4, 4, 4 flat, you know, 40. You know, they thought it was impossible to do all of those things until somebody was crazy enough to believe it was possible to not, you know, have those limitations. And, and yeah, man, so that, that's kind of the, the mindset you got to have. [00:17:31] Speaker B: Well, Roger Bannister and I think we've mentioned it on this very podcast, you know, it was impossible to run a four minute mile, which for me is still, is very much impossible. He did the four minute mile. And since he did that, thousands, thousands upon thousands of people have done the four minute mile and nobody could do it until he did it. Like, leave your evidence, leave your proof, you know, you don't think you can write a book. What's stopping you? It was the great Les Brown that said if you can dream it, you can achieve it. It won't come easy, but you can absolutely do it. [00:18:11] Speaker A: No, absolutely, man. That, that in itself, you know, the, the dreaming and achieving is, is so important, man, when it comes to just, you know, because there has to be a vision and that's what the dream is like. There has to be a vision for it has to be a dream for it. And if, you know, once you have that, once you have that, that image that you can chase, then that makes it that much more powerful and that much more, you know, you're more capable of doing it once you have the, the visual, you know, and that's, I mean it. I almost like I was telling a friend that was catching up on all our podcasts, man, I was like, so I just, I try so hard not to be redundant, but like some stuff just it, it just sounds, it works like it, it applies, you know, but, but it's just that, you know, we talk about the, the Emerald City, you know, we talk about the, the forest, we talk about. It's all of those things, man, that, that, that still holds true. [00:19:10] Speaker B: So. Well, one of the, one of the things that you said. And I want to touch on this a little bit because I just heard this somewhere else and I can't remember where. But vision, right? You have to have a vision. And, you know, so. So Everybody strives for 2020 vision, right? 2020 is essentially what you can see, what you're supposed to see at 20ft. That's. That's what you see at 20ft, right? You can see it clearly, right? That's not vision. That's sight. Because vision goes far. [00:19:36] Speaker A: Brad. Making me work hard, y'all. [00:19:39] Speaker B: Where am I at? [00:19:41] Speaker A: What you see at 20ft? [00:19:42] Speaker B: What you see at 20ft clearly is 2020 vision. Okay? But that's 2020 sight. Vision is seeing three, six, nine years from now. That's vision. You know, your vision is not 20ft away. Your vision's not a day away. Your vision, you have to create that vision long term. Like, this is what I be. This is what I want to look like. This is who I want to become. These are my goals. These are my dreams. That's vision. That's. That's 10 years down the road. 15. You have to create that vision. Then you got to chase it down. 2020 site. Don't be confused. That's your sight. That's 20ft in front of you. Vision. That's the long game. [00:20:18] Speaker A: That is good. No, that's real good. That. Because that, that's spot on. You know, if you, if, if it's right there in sight, you know, you're not going to chase it because it's there. It's something you can't see. I think it was Dr. Miles that said, if your dream don't scare you, dream bigger. [00:20:38] Speaker B: Hey, I wanna, I wanna touch on that too. Now I'm excited. [00:20:41] Speaker A: Do it. [00:20:42] Speaker B: So I, I got the mojo going. [00:20:44] Speaker A: But you're freezing up. But it's all good. [00:20:45] Speaker B: I'll free. Yeah, there we go. Oh, man. So. So I. I was just reading this article about dreaming bigger. Just having massive goals. Okay. Because if you don't have massive goals, what small goals? And it was the great Michelangelo. Michelangelo said, the problem in society isn't setting a big goal and falling short. It's setting a small going goal and actually hitting that target. Right? And so I've been encouraging everybody to try, attempt to win eight days out of seven days. And some people are like, that doesn't even make sense. Fall short of eight days, what do you got? You're winning seven days. You're winning every day of the week. Fall short of 120%. Ever. Where are you at. You're at 100% effort. But if your goal is to win four days a week, because if four days a week, you win the week. But if your goal is to aim at that four days a week, you want to win that four days a week, you fall short of that. What is it? Three? That's a loss. That's a red week. All right, you want. You want as many green weeks as you can. So always strive for a little bit more than what you think is obtainable. [00:21:45] Speaker A: I like it, man. No, that's fire. [00:21:47] Speaker B: Now get us out of here before I freeze again. [00:21:49] Speaker A: Before you freeze again. All right, y'all. So listen, man, we. We appreciate y'all tuning into the Bad Podcast, man. We love what we do. We love being able to do this, and we love the love, man. So continue to share. Tell people about it. We appreciate y'all and Brad. [00:23:04] Speaker B: Anything else, man? I'm just. I'm just blessed to be here. [00:23:08] Speaker A: That's right, brother. Until next time, y'all. Peace. Sa.
