[00:00:00] Speaker A: Foreign. [00:00:12] Speaker B: Welcome to the Eager to Motivate podcast. This is the podcast where we don't just talk about fitness. We talk about all aspects of life. So we're going to have people from all types of industries and backgrounds. We're going to keep it fun, we're going to keep it real. Stay tuned for some great guests. What's going on, everybody? Today I have a super special guest, but, you know, I gotta do the right thing. I gotta first introduce my lovely co host, Mandy. Hey, Mandy. All right, what's going on, sis? Okay, now we're gonna get into it. Cause I gotta be a gentleman. I gotta do the right thing first. Now we're gonna jump into my special guest, my boy. I'm actually his personal trainer. People don't know that, but they gonna know it today. Today, today, they don't know. But my boy, my friend, an inspiring man of God. [00:00:57] Speaker A: Let's go. [00:00:58] Speaker B: Tim Shropshire. [00:00:59] Speaker A: What's up, baby? [00:01:01] Speaker B: How you feeling, man? Bro, I'm feeling blessed, man. I'm real thankful to have you, man. I know you've been on tour. I know you've been doing your thing, man, and you made some time to come in, you know, and talk with us. And, you know, today I really hope that a lot of your followers and people that, you know, follow your journey, follow your comedy, go to your shows, they learn something they didn't know about you. [00:01:20] Speaker A: That's it. That's it. [00:01:21] Speaker B: So, Tim, for the rare people out there who don't know who you are. [00:01:25] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:01:25] Speaker B: Tell them who you are, brother. [00:01:26] Speaker A: Well, I'm. I'm. I'm Jeff's biggest guest. Literally. Literally, we. [00:01:32] Speaker B: This is fact, literally, our first podcast. [00:01:35] Speaker A: I'm the biggest one. I'm the biggest one that said this. [00:01:37] Speaker C: Ch. [00:01:38] Speaker A: I'm about 3. About 3:15. I'm the biggest guest. We ain't talking about fame either. We ain't talking about the biggest guest he's ever had on the show. Big time, baby. I'm Tim Shropshire. I'm from Fayetteville, North Carolina, and I'm just the son of Sammy and Sonia, the greatest parents ever. And so raised up the whole Christian home and loving home, very supportive crew, and played football all my life. And so that was me. I just played sports. Me and my brother. [00:02:09] Speaker B: You were Aggie. Go ahead and plug them Aggies, man. [00:02:12] Speaker A: A and T, they took good care of me, gave me a scholarship coming out of high school, and I just really thought that was my world, just to play ball. And it wasn't until I got hurt in my going into my junior year, I got hurt. My grades got hurt, too. I went from a 3.1 to a 1.4 GPA. Oh, man. Lost my scholarship. [00:02:32] Speaker B: Wow. [00:02:32] Speaker A: And that was like the biggest wake up call. It was like the worst, best thing that ever happened to me. And so. But that let me figure out, like, what am I gonna do with my life? I'm not gonna blow to the league. And then that's when comedy came about. Read my pastor's book called Understanding youg. And I've been doing comedy ever since, like, 2008. And just. [00:02:52] Speaker B: 2008. [00:02:53] Speaker A: 2008. 2008. [00:02:55] Speaker B: You know what, Tim? You know you're from the south, right? [00:02:56] Speaker A: Yep, yep. [00:02:57] Speaker B: And so most of us from the south and, I don't know other places in the world, but there's a lot of naturally funny people to me in the south, right? [00:03:05] Speaker A: Yeah. Yeah. [00:03:05] Speaker B: So when did you realize that you could do something with comedy? And it wasn't just, I'm just naturally funny. So you said 2008. [00:03:12] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:03:13] Speaker B: What was it that made you feel like I could do something with this? [00:03:17] Speaker A: I did an event. So again, I'm in church. I think the biggest thing I saw glimpses of it. And so it was like, one of the things that you said, like, in the south, like, so many of your guys are funny, your friends are funny. So when you playing football? When I got there, one thing I realized, it was like, even playing field, like, everybody's dope, everybody's strong, everybody's fast, you know? And then it's like, everybody's funny. Especially, like, the older heads, you're like, oh, man. I was like, I was a class clown. Literally, I was a class clown of yearbook, all that good stuff. In high school, when I got to college, I was like, oh, I'm in the back of the line. So I was like, I'm a freshman, you know? And when the older guys was like, man, let Schrop do it. I'm like, nah, y'all the ones. And so that's when I saw a glimpse of, like, I must got a little something on me, you know, like, if the older guys are telling me to step up and do something humorous or tell a joke or in front of, like, the pep rally, have Schrop go out there and do something, like. But I'm the freshman. So my guy saw that in me, and I still use that till today. [00:04:18] Speaker B: I like it. [00:04:18] Speaker A: And I'm like, I'm 39 years old now. I'm going to these comedy clubs, and I always think, like, man, am I going to a space because I do clean comedy? [00:04:25] Speaker B: Yeah. Yeah. [00:04:25] Speaker A: And so sometimes I had this feeling like, man, what is clean comedy? Will this work in this and this little hood club in Columbia, South Carolina, or Wilmington, Oklahoma? Like, will this work? And I always reminded, like, man, you're the seniors and juniors they used to put you on. So use that same thing to keep you motivated, to show you that you can. And you got the validation early. You don't need no more. You got enough validation earlier. And so that really showed me there's a path in comedy. And I did an event at my church one time and that just really started getting the ball rolling. A lady booked me. She said, hey, I would love for you to do stand up for this event. And I was like, I never would have thought about it, doing stand up comedy. And that turned into. That's all we do. [00:05:09] Speaker C: That's awesome. You're just a natural. I mean, and now you're viral. You got 350 million followers. [00:05:14] Speaker A: Yeah, yeah, we growing, we growing. I mean, I was telling Shane earlier, I was like, man, something happened. Cause we're growing 30,000 followers every month. [00:05:23] Speaker C: That's amazing. That is amazing. [00:05:26] Speaker B: Let me borrow some of them followers, right? [00:05:28] Speaker A: My wife be like, I need that 30,000 to roll in that bank account. You know, I need that to roll over there. [00:05:34] Speaker C: Seriously. [00:05:35] Speaker B: God. [00:05:36] Speaker C: That's the billion dollar question right there. [00:05:38] Speaker A: Monetize on it. [00:05:39] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:05:40] Speaker C: How do you. How does it change how you do now? How you create content now that you have all these followers? Or do you. I mean, to me it sounds like you're just a natural. [00:05:50] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:05:50] Speaker C: Like, people saw the potential in you from your college days and they just said, hey, man, you gotta get up and do this. And you followed that calling, which I love. But it doesn't help the people out there. [00:06:00] Speaker A: Well, no, for people that even want to do it, I was scared. I was scared to. So Again, I said 2008 is when I started comedy, you know, and then I really got heavy in 2010, but I didn't make my first video consistently until 2017. And I knew I needed to make videos years before that. It took me years to just pull out my cell phone and open and press that red button and make a video. I was more worried about one. Like, what would people think about me if I messed up? And so, and. And again, I. I talk to God a lot. Like, like, like, that's. That's how I moved, the way I moved. That's why I'm where I'm at. It's really because of him. But even though how big God is, I still ignored that little, still small voice that said, make videos. And I was like, man, I want to be an international national comedian. I want to travel the world. And I heard the still small. I was leaving from Greenville, North Carolina, and I heard the still small voice say, make videos. And I was like, nah, we ain't doing that. But I was like, you got to be something else. I'm a grown man. I'm a little crazy. Like, I'm not making no videos. And making videos has been the game changer in the Switch. And so we're flying to London in a few weeks to do a comedy show. [00:07:09] Speaker C: Oh, my God. [00:07:10] Speaker A: But my prayer was, I want to be international national, make videos. But what got you there? Creating content. I love that. [00:07:16] Speaker C: And so, yeah, it's scary to be vulnerable because you're vulnerable. You're getting out in front of people, you know, people. You don't. It is scary. [00:07:23] Speaker A: We're really, a lot of us are really worried about what people think and think of us. So we will hold back on what we're called to be because we're. We're people pleasers at times. And so when I had to get over that and know that my calling, my purpose is greater than someone's opinion, that changed everything for me. And still to this day, you know, I post what I want to post and I put it out there and hey, it is what it is. That's what I feel. If I'm talking about me and my wife, I'm talking about how I feel. You don't like going somewhere. [00:07:52] Speaker C: That's what's great, though, about your content. You're so genuine. I think when you're genuine, you can't go wrong. [00:07:57] Speaker A: Yeah, yeah, yeah, that's it. That's it. I love it. [00:07:59] Speaker B: Well, you know, Tim, you know, that's a good way to, you know, kind of talk about or step into just how famous you've become. [00:08:06] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:08:07] Speaker B: Sometimes we don't realize, you know, what that fame brings until we're out and about. [00:08:11] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:08:12] Speaker B: In the city or walking around and somebody says, oh, man, you're Tim. [00:08:16] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:08:16] Speaker B: How do you. How do you handle that? So you live in Charlotte, North Carolina? [00:08:20] Speaker A: Yep. Yeah. [00:08:20] Speaker B: You get to walk around this big city. [00:08:22] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:08:22] Speaker B: How do you handle being a known person, being an influencer, being out there in the scene, being a big time comedian? How do you handle that? [00:08:29] Speaker A: I'm humble. I mean, I don't sound big time. You don't gas. You act you act like my daddy. You don't gas me up. [00:08:34] Speaker C: You know what I'm saying? [00:08:35] Speaker A: But I do. I'm just. I'm humbled by it, you know, and. Because there's been a lot of work that's been put into it, and going back to that still small voice is like this. This. That obedience opens up doors for these opportunities. And you just never know. So imagine if you didn't say yes to the call. And so. But it. Honestly, it's an honor. It's not overwhelming. You know, some people have their moments where they trip out a little bit too hard, but it's more stories, you know, better stories than the worst. But I enjoy the fact that. Cause I love people. Like, my favorite part of doing standup and touring is after the show when I get to do meet and greet. So I love just talking to people, hearing their stories. And you get to hear people who say, like, man, I was just watching your video. Or, man, I had a dark time, man, your video brought me out, you know, or this. I told one guy, was like, man, you helped save my marriage. Because, man, boom, we went to one of your shows, and that was me and my wife's one of our first date nights in a long time. So I'm like, man, so just hearing that, that is encouraging. And the thing is, I know you supposed to have, like, a target audience, man. It's white, black, old, young. I don't care. [00:09:46] Speaker C: Trump's a part of Spectrum. [00:09:47] Speaker A: I don't care. It don't matter. It's like, I'm like, yo, this is an interesting dynamic of the fan base that we have, and it is so organic and genuine. And so because we mix it with the food reviews and the comedy, and we get into barbecue. So now you have a barbecue fan base. It's really cool. [00:10:09] Speaker B: You know, I've been around you for a while, you know, another plug. Again, I am his personal trainer. Just so you guys know that it's. [00:10:17] Speaker A: So, you know, it's going. Look, I'm in development stage. You know, I'm one of the. I'm one of his clients that he got to work out and pray for us. [00:10:26] Speaker B: He's a work in progress. [00:10:28] Speaker A: But. [00:10:29] Speaker B: But, Tim, man, you know, I want to give you some flowers, man. You're an excellent father and husband. [00:10:34] Speaker A: Oh, man. Yeah. [00:10:35] Speaker B: You know, there's a lot of things that I want people to pull from this podcast that they may not see behind the scenes, man. But you take your kids to school. [00:10:43] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:10:44] Speaker B: You're always spending time with your wife. And you're balancing touring and making content and all that. So, man, tell the people how you do that. Cause they may see one of your kids pop up in a video, but they don't realize how much time you spend with your family and how much of a family man, you are. [00:11:00] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:11:01] Speaker B: And so let's talk about that a little bit. [00:11:03] Speaker A: I feel like the model is from my dad, my mom, my parents, the most supportive group of individuals I've ever seen in my life. And consistent to this day. You know, my dad still catch at me like, hey, I just Wanna bless you $100. Go wherever you wanted to go to. So, like, he said, I love what you're doing. I like that. Be good, son. Take the money. I'm like, all right. Yeah. He said, but did it go through? I'm like, that is them. Is they set the blueprint. And so it's by nature that, like, I love family. You know, like you mentioned earlier, like, how is it, like, going out and about? That's good. But I'm a home guy. Like, I'm a homebody. Like, I'm at home with them babies, with my wife, and because that's where it's at and because I do know, you know, being honest, like, yeah, them fans could go. If you don't do something right, the fans could be gone. [00:12:01] Speaker B: Right. [00:12:02] Speaker A: But I know who's there, who's always present, who's there, who's there when I didn't have a following, who was there when I didn't have shows, when no money was coming in. We won't get no brand partnerships. Like my wife still wanting to date me. You know, my kids still looked at me as Superman, no matter what, no matter how I felt. And so. And everything I do is for them. The reason why I shot a comedy special was because I wanted to leave a blueprint, you know, behind for them. I said, I don't want to leave this earth. And my kids not know what daddy did. [00:12:32] Speaker B: I love it. [00:12:32] Speaker A: Anybody. Anybody does. So I just. They're my motivation. They're the reason why I move the way I move. And we got four kids. Harmony, Kenzie, Xander and Evan. [00:12:41] Speaker B: That's right. [00:12:42] Speaker A: And so they're my world. So. [00:12:45] Speaker C: So I'm getting teary a little bit. I can. I can attest to this, too, because we were outside working out, and I was like, how do you keep going? Because I could look at you, and I was really impressed by your. Your grit in the workout. And I was like, how do you. How are you keeping going what keeps you. What keeps you going? Like, not just in the workout, but in everything else you do. You're like, easy. It's my kids. I gotta. I gotta do this for them. So, I mean, I've seen it in action, y'all. This is true stuff. And I love, like, just how genuine you are. [00:13:12] Speaker A: Like, I got a phenomenal wife, man. Esther is amazing. You know, she checked me the other week, man. She was like. She was like, man. Cause she's like, I want to see the old shrop doing my fitness. She was like, I want to see the old shrop. You know, because I was £230, people look at me, they're like, you play D line? I was like, no, I play linebacker. They said, what? [00:13:31] Speaker B: And so she said, I want to. [00:13:31] Speaker A: See the old trop. I said, the old shop is gone. And so I was like, man. And I was talking too much because I was like, yeah, those 5:30 workouts, man, I used to do that. I was like, I didn't like working out in college. Cause I was in tip top shape. She was like, I was like, the only reason I worked out in college the way I did is because I didn't want to let my teammates down. And my wife would look in my eyes, she's like, I thought we was your new team. [00:13:54] Speaker B: And I was like, I'm going to. [00:13:57] Speaker A: Get on that treadmill. [00:14:00] Speaker B: We've had some deep convos about that, and we'll keep some of that personal. But, you know, my biggest thing is, you know, especially when it comes to training somebody. And this is a fitness aspect to this podcast. It's like, I want Tim to live longer for that beautiful family that he has. That doesn't mean I want Tim to have a six pack. That means I want him to have good labs and be able to go to his doctor and get a good report. And so sometimes people always look for, let me visually see the muscle bound guy. Sometimes it's, man, you could have eaten 10 plates of wings. [00:14:31] Speaker A: Could have. [00:14:32] Speaker B: But I got you down eating one plate. [00:14:33] Speaker A: Come on, somebody. [00:14:35] Speaker B: Yeah. No, not like that. Go ahead, man. [00:14:39] Speaker C: Oh, gosh. So we get to see the fun cool part and your faith and all that good stuff. But, like, there's a business side of this too. So what are the things behind the scenes that we don't get to see? [00:14:50] Speaker A: Man, when I look at it, I'm like, oh, shoot, we done created a little mini empire. [00:14:56] Speaker C: Yeah, you did. [00:14:57] Speaker A: You know, because there's so many different components to the brand of. You know, it was just Tim Sharp Comedy and we switched it to the Shrop Company. And so because Stand up now is just a component of the brand now. So we have stand up comedy that is able to do tours and we're able to do churches, comedy clubs, colleges, you name it. Then we go into the brand partnerships. And so we're able to collaborate with brands all across the country. And then we're doing the monetizing on social media. So you have your YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok and be able to monetize, create content for that as well. And merchandise is a. It's a. It's a whole different animal. Like, you know, we just left Dallas this past weekend and, you know, it was almost 3,000 people in the lobby at the show that we were at. And I'm like, I ain't bringing up T shirts for all these people, you know, but it's, you know, when you just kind of lay out everything that you have there, you know, speaking opportunities that we have with colleges and student athletes and doing that. So being able to look at that. And then we. We're doing our first festival this year. And so nothing is going to be healthy out there. So don't come. [00:16:10] Speaker C: Wait, what kind of festival is it? [00:16:12] Speaker A: So I'm doing a wing fest, so a strap fest. [00:16:14] Speaker B: So I've never seen Mandy eat a wing, but it's okay. [00:16:18] Speaker C: I'm probably not gonna. But I would still go, if I. [00:16:20] Speaker A: Have a cauliflower, maybe I'll bring one for you in a Ziploc bag. And. But we're doing. I'm doing my first finger festival. And I was just going to do it simple. I was going to keep it and I was going to do it. You know, my thought was just do it in the parking lot and bring a few food trucks. A farm out of carry said, nah, we're going to partner with you. And that turned into my hopefully 300 people. He was like, ah, we probably could probably do about, about 2,500 people. [00:16:44] Speaker C: I'm like, oh, my God. [00:16:45] Speaker A: Yeah, that's what I'm thinking too. Yeah, you know, you're going to do more shirts, right? [00:16:50] Speaker B: It's going to be a hit man. [00:16:51] Speaker A: So we're doing the festival and then so those different things that makes up the Shrop company and just being able to manage that and be able to produce it at a high level. And that's why it's really amazing to be around people like you all who do excellence at a high level and seeing it. And that's how I know we're moving into the right spaces because of the people that guys placing around me. And so because we learn it, because the blueprint of business wasn't given to me, it's been learned. And also it's a no excuse thing because it is accessible to you if you go look for it. But that's what we've been embracing and learning more of and doing more of how to monetize and how to be efficient in everything that we do. And so it's been a really. It's been a blessing. It's been a blessing. [00:17:47] Speaker B: You know, Tim, I really want to highlight, you know, your upcoming tours and your wing fest and that kind of stuff, but I want to go back to the business piece. [00:17:54] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:17:55] Speaker B: Me and you talk about a lot of things, and a lot of people don't know that, you know, you handle majority of the business yourself. [00:18:03] Speaker A: Yep. [00:18:04] Speaker B: So let's say somebody has a restaurant or a rib truck or whatever, that person is trying to reach out to you directly. At some point, of course, you'll get a team that filters that stuff, but you've been handling a lot of that yourself. So how do you filter through? Because you gotta think about it. People see you promote a restaurant or a food truck or something like that, and I mean, you have a ton of reach. [00:18:27] Speaker A: Yep. [00:18:28] Speaker B: So when you promote somebody, I mean, that's a pretty big deal for them. [00:18:33] Speaker A: Yeah, yeah, yeah. [00:18:34] Speaker B: I understand how much a business can be impacted by just having somebody say a good thing about it. [00:18:40] Speaker A: Yep, yep. [00:18:41] Speaker B: So how do you filter? How do you handle that? What's your process? Yeah, if somebody sees this podcast and they're like, man, I want Tim to come to my restaurant. I want him to try my brisket, I want him to try my wings. What's the process? [00:18:53] Speaker A: So pretty much my team is pretty small, and that really consists of one my wife, who pretty much does a lot of strategic planning and just being a wife. Like, baby, don't do that. You know, I think we had an idea this morning. She's like, baby, do it, do it. No, don't do that. And I was like, it was with a network. She was like, no. She said, cause if it goes big, they gonna get it. They need to come here. I was like, I ain't never think about that girl. And so, but my wife Esther, and then Kendra. Kendra's my booking manager, and she pretty much anything that comes in as far as any type of booking, it goes straight to her. And she'll hit me up. We do weekly meeting. She'll like, hey, srap. This is what we got. And so we started just doing straight stand up again. 2008, 2009, and we've been rolling. And then when the pandemic hit, you know, we weren't doing any shows. You know, it was just really slow and. But. And I thank God for a guy who reached out to me. He flew me out to la, and we were just chatting and talking. He showed me his business phenomenal story. But he was like, man, he was like, I want you to not only just track your income, he said, but put everything on Excel sheet or chart and show where the money is coming from. [00:20:07] Speaker B: Yeah, yeah. [00:20:07] Speaker A: And I was able to see, like, okay, this came from stand up. This came from YouTube. This came from that. And then I was just looking, like, one month. Won't nothing popping in social media. Won't nothing popping in stand up. But we were still paying our bills. I was like, how we paying? And I was like, these brands been reaching out to you and hitting you up. Like, this was just so random. So I was like, man, I think there's something there, this marketing. So I was like, let's do promote with Shroff, man. I started promoting brands, and it was just something simple. And it grew to something. I'm like, whoa. I almost couldn't control. And we started doing. I mean. I mean, a funeral home reached out to me. I was like, you only promote your funeral home. He said, yeah, we need some more business. I said, now, I don't want. You can't promote. I like, hey, like, we ain't taking nobody out. But, man, I was like, well, I'll do it. We gonna put some humor to it. They loved it. And I was like, man, so we're just doing any type of business. A young lady reached out. She said, hey. She said, can you make. Can you promote my catering business? She's like, I'll come to your house. I said, you gonna pay me to eat your food at my house? I said, okay, you come tonight. So she came over. She cooked some food for us. We filmed it. It went well. Another chef out of Maryland saw him. She was like, I'm gonna show you what a real brunch is. [00:21:24] Speaker B: Oh, wow. [00:21:25] Speaker A: She flew me up to Maryland, and the place was elaborate, Just flowers everywhere. Just the best presentation of food I've ever. And I don't think no one since I've done has topped her presentation. It was. But it caught the eyes of 80 other chefs. Wow. And they flooded my comments and flooded my inbox. And I had been Doing food reviews ever since. So we have been so. My. My manager's the one, Kendra, she was like, hey, I think we need to start considering doing. I know you want to do promoting brands. I think you should start doing food reviews. So we started doing food reviews, and those numbers just took off. And the amount of restaurants that have been the stories, you know, like I was telling Jeff, I was like, man, it's amazing how that whole experience has gone. We've been able to meet with so many chefs, so many, so many food trucks. People fly me to places just to try their food. [00:22:19] Speaker B: Hey, Tim, man, I gotta make that clear. And this is a super big deal. [00:22:22] Speaker A: Talk to me. [00:22:23] Speaker B: When you work with a brand influencer, you're taking a chance. [00:22:26] Speaker A: Yes. [00:22:26] Speaker B: It's like, well, if I give you this hat, right, And I want Tim to wear this hat, somebody may or may not buy that hat. But when it comes to food and restaurants, the, like, the rate of return. [00:22:39] Speaker A: Yes. [00:22:39] Speaker B: Big, big difference. Because people are always looking for a place to eat, right. [00:22:43] Speaker A: A spot to check out. [00:22:44] Speaker B: And so when. When Tim goes into a location, because I've been with you, I've been with you when we're going places, when Tim go into a restaurant, and it's just like that restaurant knows that people are going to see this video or see your review and they're going to go to that restaurant. It's direct income. So I got to plug my boy. [00:23:04] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:23:05] Speaker B: So if you trying to invest your money and make your restaurant better, your chef catering service better, you better, you better, you better check some out. [00:23:11] Speaker A: I got a restaurant just reached out to me and was like, hey. I told him, like, his video is gonna go on Facebook, Instagram and TikTok. And I only had posted on Facebook and Instagram. So he hit me up. I was like, hey, when are you gonna post on TikTok? And I was like. And I was like, oh, I got you, I got you. He was like, no, I don't want you to. He was like, can you wait about three weeks? Wow. He was like, we're that busy. [00:23:33] Speaker B: Wow. [00:23:34] Speaker A: And he was like. He said, don't post it just yet. He said, the amount of volume that's coming through. And this. He just sent me that, like, two days, three days ago. And so businesses. I'm blown away. I thought I was going to be blown away by meeting at the airport or being in la and you're like, boom, there. I'm blown away by somebody saying, hey, the sales that we had this month, or someone saying, hey, we had to slow down a little bit because we had to hire new staff or the one guy saying, hey, the Greensboro location that we just opened, thank you for ensuring this person's salary. I lied to you. Now. The guy was like, hey, we were. We were on the fence. We were about to just shut down that location. And he was like. And we were going to tell him, like, in two weeks, you know? And I'm like. He was like, your video brought so much volume in there. He was like, it ensured his salary. He was like, that flow picked up. He was like, okay, so we're going to teach that, and we're going to be able to. I was like, what? [00:24:38] Speaker C: That's amazing. [00:24:39] Speaker A: I would just try to get me a steak of cheese. That's it. [00:24:42] Speaker B: Bro. Bro. This is a deep one. And I know I'm dragging this one out, but this is important. People see the food reviews, right? And they want Tim to review their food because they automatically feel like it's going to produce business and money. But there's another side to that, too. [00:25:00] Speaker A: It is. [00:25:00] Speaker B: You already know why people, like, they don't believe your food reviews sometimes, because they're like, he can't love all this food. He can't be that crazy about every piece of brisket that he eats. That's gotta be fake. [00:25:17] Speaker A: Yep, Yep. Get it all out. [00:25:19] Speaker B: So like I said, I've been around you for a while, so I got to see behind the scenes. And sometimes people don't know. So lack of information promotes speculation. [00:25:27] Speaker A: Yep, Yep. [00:25:28] Speaker B: And so people believe that. Hey, he's just saying this brisket is good because they're paying him. [00:25:35] Speaker A: Right, right, right, right, right. [00:25:37] Speaker B: He's just saying this restaurant is good because they're paying him. [00:25:40] Speaker A: Yep. Yeah. [00:25:41] Speaker B: Telling the truth, Tim. [00:25:43] Speaker A: All right. The truth. [00:25:44] Speaker B: Tell the real, dark truth. Give him the real. [00:25:48] Speaker A: Ain't none of it good. [00:25:53] Speaker C: You just got yourself fired. [00:25:58] Speaker B: But it's all good. [00:25:59] Speaker A: The. The truth is it's twofold or maybe three. Right, right. One is I'm just like anybody else. And I see why people say, like, it can't be all that good. [00:26:09] Speaker B: Yeah. Yeah. [00:26:10] Speaker A: And I'm really fortunate. [00:26:13] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:26:13] Speaker A: To try the food that I've tried. And I'm. I'm blessed, man. I'm like, by the. I don't. People say, how do you find these places? I don't. They find me. [00:26:25] Speaker B: Yeah, yeah. [00:26:25] Speaker A: And so one is. That is. One is. You'll be amazed at how many chefs are out there that do it. Right. [00:26:33] Speaker B: Oh, yeah. [00:26:33] Speaker A: And that are phenomenal. And some of These reactions are too real. Cause I'm like, how in the world did you make this? Because you gotta realize a lot of these people are chefs who are saying, I know I can cook. I just need an opportunity. [00:26:49] Speaker B: That's true. [00:26:49] Speaker A: Like, bro, like, man, please. I want somebody to try this. I don't know what else to do. And you try. Like, one guy in West Union, South Carolina, said, hey, man, I got the best steak you ever had. I'm like, bro, everybody done been to steak 48. I done been like, all right. I'm like, okay. He said, I'm fine with you. I got some of the best. I'm like, all right. Okay. I go down to West Union, was three hours from the house. I'm, like, holding a wall spot. I'm like, man, big Ds. How's the barbecue? I'm like, all right. Ain't nobody in this parking lot. You know, I saw that little, you know, the air conditioner leaking over there. I said, oh, shit. Not the air conditioner. This about to be. I said, I don't even know they got a sanitation grade up in this, man. This man brought out a smoked ribeye. The best thing I ever. [00:27:38] Speaker B: Wow. [00:27:38] Speaker A: What? And I'm like, I would have never drove all the way out here to find this place. He made a. Everybody had peach cobbler. He made a sweet potato cobbler. [00:27:48] Speaker B: Wow. [00:27:48] Speaker A: I yelled all through that place. I said, good. Goddamn. You know, and so you meet people like that, and, like, you're so amazed. And so. And he was, like, in the business. That flipped for him was. Was ridiculous. But. But also, there is this component of, you know. You know, you meet so many different chefs, and people don't realize. There are places that I don't promote that people want, like. And then people don't realize how many people. I don't. Everybody don't pay for a review. Something I just want to go to support. But I see why people would say that, because when I pick a restaurant on my own, when we're on vacation, it is mediocre. [00:28:26] Speaker B: Yeah, yeah. [00:28:27] Speaker A: It's like, so I get it. Cause people are like, can't everything be good? That is true. Because most restaurants are mediocre. Most restaurants are like, they over season or it's bland. It's like. It's very, very few that you find a gym, you know, at these places. And I've been able to get that. And it comes to me, so. And then there's some people. And people say, have you ever had a bad meal? I was like, yeah, I was like. But I will say I haven't had a bad meal from a chef that asked me to come in and showcase. Cause think about it. And I don't know how it is when somebody else comes on a regular day. But think about how if you trying to showcase something, you gonna put your best foot forward and you're not gonna go on, you know, Instagram or YouTube. So they gonna make sure that macaroni just right. They gonna make sure that T is just right. You know, so everything is not like, flipping, running good. But it is like, to the point, like, oh, this is pretty good. And my audience I'm following has grown with me. Cause it's a learned experience on how to do the reactions, how to. But my fans and followers have learned and grown with me to know, like, okay, that place just good. [00:29:40] Speaker B: I never thought about this, brother. [00:29:41] Speaker A: You see in the comments, they be like, okay, it was just good. Trop ain't gonna say it was bad. Cause it wasn't bad. But it was just good. It was just good. So you telling me I don't really gotta go, but I should try it. But this one over here, if he yelling and hollering, if he say, good God Almighty and start moonwalking, I better go pack my bags up. And baby, we changing our dinner plans. We going. So my fan base has learned how my reaction, without me saying, oh, this is 8.5 or this is 10 out of 10, my reactions let them know, okay, that's just good. Or like, yeah, he ain't going nowhere. And I told this one lady, I did, they had a vegan burger. And so she was like, okay, but can you run after it? I said, man, this ain't runnable burger. I was like, this is good now, but I ain't run nowhere. You like the vegan burger over no soy. It was good. [00:30:28] Speaker C: Now, I don't know if I can run over. [00:30:30] Speaker A: It was good. But I said, man, it was good. I ain't running nobody street. [00:30:36] Speaker B: You know what, Tim? Man, I just thought about this, and I never thought about this before. A lot of people make themselves famous, and that's no shame or shade on them. But people make themselves famous for negative reviews. [00:30:47] Speaker A: Yeah. And you can. So I can do that. And so I didn't say there have been places where I haven't promoted, you know, that I've done a review for it that is still in my phone right now because it would have done more damage for that brand. So I'm like, man, I gotta think about that. So I Did it. So let's look on the good side. I did a review for this company, this restaurant, and they didn't ask me to come in. I just. I heard it was a good hole in the wallow spot outside of Goldsboro, North Carolina, in Dudley, North Carolina. And so I went there. I forget the name of the barbecue place, but I made the best fried chicken ever had in my life. But when I did the review, the family reached out. The grandkids were like, thank you for saying that about our grandfather. Thank you. I mean, they were coming out. It was about a good 15, 20 people, just. But it was all family. And I was like. They was like, man, thank you for keeping the story alive, man. He's one of the oldest black pitmasters in North Carolina. And it was like, man, I was like, I didn't know there was that much history in it. And so I was like, what if I went in there and. And talked about the place, the trashy place? Now they're looking at their grandparents legacy as like, man, wow. Oh, ain't it your granddaddy they talking about? And so I think about that, like, it's bigger than. Almost even bigger than business. Somebody gotta walk around, you know, realizing, like, man, I'm a failure now because I may have made a mistake or I don't cook up to the expectation of this particular guy who has an influence. I think a lot of people forget, like, you're an influencer. So if I can influence you to go to a restaurant, I can also influence you not to go to a restaurant, you know? And so I have to think about, like, hey, if you're. I'd rather tell you your shrimp and grits was horrible versus telling 500,000 people. Yep. [00:32:39] Speaker C: This speaks to who you are, too. [00:32:41] Speaker A: I would be upset if I did a comedy show and you went on and told your half a million followers or a million followers that I sucked on stage tonight. [00:32:51] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:32:52] Speaker A: Versus saying, hey, bro, was everything all right? Well, that. That joke didn't. Let's tighten that part up. Let's try that now. Talk about me. If you told me that. And I'm like, man, I don't need you. [00:33:04] Speaker B: Yeah, yeah. [00:33:04] Speaker A: Hey, bro, welcome to the Shroud Pocket. That joker, he hob up there, you know, Tell the world. Tell the world. You know, the only way I'll probably blast somebody is if they just. No, man. Trauma real. I promise, man. Put the video out. Okay. Okay. Hey, the rib dry. And I don't mind telling you, it was a popular place. I won't say the name of the place, they're popular for a particular dish. And it wasn't hitting that day. It was not hitting at all. And we was all way out in Cali for this one, and it was not hitting. And I was like, oh, man, it looked great online. It was falling on the bone. And so they even told me. They was like, hey, we're not gonna show. We're not gonna even serve that again. Because something happened. The pitmasters that we're training up messed up that particular item. And it was like, we're not gonna serve that. And I was like, man, thank you for saying that. Cause I would have been in there, I would have made a review off of a bad day in the barbecue world for them that could have said, I knew that place wasn't really that good. And it was like. And the owner said, no, we. We're training up these new pitmasters, and they had just learned. He said, we threw them all out. But the other stuff was great. So that's what I showed. I showed the good. I was like, man, there's a way you can even tell somebody it's not good without bashing somebody, too. [00:34:27] Speaker C: Yeah, it speaks to who you are, too, because you really cared about the guy's family that you were talking about. Like, how does this impact how his grandchildren see him, his legacy? What is this going to do to the customers that might go. It might, you know, ruin their business. But I think that's a really important thing to highlight here, because it's easy to go to the Internet and be like, man, this place was not good. They're lying about how good this is. They're painting this food. But to really go and talk to them and be like, I'm glad that we could talk about this man to man, because it really wasn't that good in there. And they were like, nope, it was an issue. So, like, that is something that I really respect about you, is that it's not that it's all good. It's that we're only showcasing the really good. And you are. You have the conversation to say, I don't know if you really want me to post this, and you're willing not to post this. So, I mean, that's. I really respect you. [00:35:15] Speaker A: That's what it's about. [00:35:16] Speaker C: You stay humble, and you stay really caring about other people and deepen your faith and all of that stuff. So I just really respect that. That's half of why I love your stuff, because it is hilarious. But it's clean and it's Nice. And you still care about people, so. [00:35:31] Speaker A: That'S what I love about. [00:35:31] Speaker C: I mean, that's what's really important in life. [00:35:33] Speaker A: Right? But I got a good daddy, so. [00:35:35] Speaker C: You know, me too. I share that with you. All right, so. So what's the future of. Of Strop? [00:35:42] Speaker A: Yeah, Comedy. I think the biggest thing is. No, I'm ready. I'm not just saying this because I'm with y'all, but I do want to see the. The best version of myself pop up one day. [00:35:53] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:35:53] Speaker A: It's coming soon. [00:35:54] Speaker C: We ready? Let's do it. [00:35:55] Speaker A: Yeah. Esther, ready too. [00:35:57] Speaker C: We got you, Esther. [00:35:59] Speaker A: I think the biggest thing is really to. It's really just to elevate what we're doing and just on the next level, whatever the level that we're on right now, I just want it because I love the spaces that we're in. I don't want to change anything about it. I want to keep on doing the brand partnerships. I want to keep on. I want to just do more. I want to do couture. I want to do more, do more people, write more content. I love the independent side of it. You know, I don't know if I don't think TV is my goal. If that comes around, I would love, you know, it's cool. And I probably may do that again more so for my kids, so they'll be able to see that. But I love having the creative control with content, so being able to create sitcoms and short films and stand up specials and continue to do that and be able to take care of my family in a great way, travel the world and do that, that's the goal, and continue to thrive in that. And I have a heart for student athletes, so I want to be able to, you know, in the busyness of all that we do, I still want to pour into young males, student athletes, and find a way to do that. And so. So. But still, I love what we do and just want to do it on a bigger level. And so that's all. [00:37:13] Speaker C: I love that, man. [00:37:14] Speaker B: Tim, I got. I got two last final questions for you. My first question is, and I don't. I don't think I've. I've never seen anybody ask you this, and they may have. Why do you do clean comedy? Because, of course, that puts you in a box, especially in the comedy world, and hinders your ability to do certain things. So why did you make that choice for you and your career to stay clean? [00:37:42] Speaker A: I think the biggest reason I chose to do clean comedy is because All I can do is be me. I can't. It's hard for me to be anybody else. And that's what I naturally am. Like, that's how I naturally roll. And people always say, how do you not cuss on stage? I'll be being the opposite. If I was cussing on stage, Like, I'll be being an image that I'm not just to fit a norm in comedy. So I'm naturally. That's what I naturally do. Like, I don't be cussing and going crazy like that, but I still have a good time. Like, when I was in college, I mean, I did have 22 citations in one dorm room in one semester. Yeah. But all my buddies were like, man. Man, Like. I mean, I don't know what it was about. I just had this desire to make real life. And I'll go to the extreme again. I'm in college and cutting up. If it was a cop car right there, we cutting up in front of that cop car. I'm doing football drills in front of that cop car. And they like, man, what's rock drinking? But I knew that joker drunk. It's after the game. It's like, no, that's the thing. He's sober. Wow. He's sober. They're, like, sharp sober. Like, that's how sharp. He got his shirt off and he wearing church shoes. Yes. That's chirop. And so that was just me. And I just knew that I could win being me. And I just. That's just. That's just what I do. And so I do Klingkind because that's just what I naturally do. And I can only be me. I can't live a lie. [00:39:17] Speaker B: And I love what you do, brother. So let's talk about how people can find you. Your upcoming tours. Tell them about everything. Tim. Don't leave anything out. [00:39:25] Speaker A: Yeah. So Tim Shrop come. I gave you my address, but, you know, I don't trust y'all, y'all. But. But timshropcomedy.com is my website. That's where we put all of our information for our tours. We have about 16 dates that we're getting ready to just, you know, do starting in June. Shrop Fest is May 17, but Tim Shrop comedy on all platforms, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok. Just. We ain't hard like Deion say, hard to find. Then someone trying to figure out, like, how you say your name, how can I find you? I said, if you type in Tim and Wings, just Tim, then Wings and Google. I'm gonna Pop up. That's how crazy it is, Tim. When you'll find me. So my Necklace and unashamed Tour, it's coming June 6th. We kick it off in Birmingham, Alabama. So, yeah, necklace and understand I had this, like, this whole little name. My wife was like, yeah, necklace on the shame. We gonna rock with that. [00:40:17] Speaker C: I'm thinking neck like you wear a necklace, too. [00:40:19] Speaker A: Yes. [00:40:20] Speaker C: Necklace that made me giggle. But I am sorry for the delayed reaction. [00:40:24] Speaker B: It's all good. [00:40:24] Speaker A: Out of time. Necklace and unashamed. I'm gonna get my neck back. That's the thing. So I'm just gonna give you an inside scoop. I'm doing necklace unashamed this year. I hope next year I'll be doing the neck is back to it. That's the goal. The neck is back to it. So we're excited we coming to Charlotte. Yeah. I could go ahead and say now we book night theater. [00:40:50] Speaker B: We're going to pack that one out. [00:40:51] Speaker A: Night theater. I've never done a theater on my own before. All the dates that we're doing are all comedy clubs. And so. But I want to do something different from North Carolina, and I didn't want to do something that was going to stretch me. And that's night theater. 1100 people gotta feel that place. And we're going for it and we're. [00:41:11] Speaker B: Going to do that. [00:41:13] Speaker A: So that'll be Thanksgiving weekend. So we just got a date. So that'll be that Saturday. And so we can't wait. [00:41:19] Speaker B: So now I know a lot of people will see this that have businesses and chefs and people that want food reviews. How specifically? Because, you know, people will send you a dm. I sent you a dm. What's the professional way to reach. [00:41:32] Speaker A: Go to my website, TimSharkComy.com and then we have our booking page. And you'll see booking at the top tab back there. And you could all. You just submit what it is that you have, what it is that you do. And people always ask me too, like, do you only just do restaurants? Like, nah, we do all types of business. We're doing. We're partnering with a construction company. Really soon a general contractor as well, a roofing company as well. Lawn care company. It doesn't matter. I feel we can put the humor to anything. And I feel that humor breaks the ice for the conversation. And so that's why, you know, we've been working with so many different brands. [00:42:07] Speaker B: I love it. [00:42:08] Speaker A: And so it could be a clothing brand. You know, they were like, how can I promote this? I said, hey, let me wear. I said, the bulk of what I'm getting, my sales for my merchandise is either at a show or I'm wearing it in a video that I'm doing a skit in. I'm not even mentioning my merch. They're like, man, that thing was funny, but he wearing God family chicken wings, you know, so boom. So this podcast, I could have been wearing your shirt during the podcast. Hello. [00:42:31] Speaker B: That's right. That's right. Shirt. Shirt for sale. [00:42:34] Speaker A: Come on. You know, so pretty much, I just. If a brand wants to reach out, we'll direct you. If you need to DM me, we'll get you there to where you need to go. [00:42:44] Speaker B: Well, Tim, it was great having you today, man. [00:42:46] Speaker A: Thank y'all for y'all. Thank y'all. [00:42:47] Speaker B: Of course, man. [00:42:48] Speaker A: Y'all been instrumental, you know, fundamental my life and so appreciate you all. My wife, I asked my wife yesterday. I said, what you eat for lunch yesterday? She's like, oh, I have my E2E2M meal. [00:42:57] Speaker B: I said, let's get to work. Eat to n meal. Plug e2kitchen.com eat2n. [00:43:02] Speaker A: Hold it down. [00:43:03] Speaker B: No, man. Great job, Tim. [00:43:04] Speaker A: Great job. [00:43:05] Speaker B: To my lovely co host, Mandy.
