Talk about it. [00:02:22] Speaker B: B. I'm seven days in as of this dropping live. Pop. Pop. My abs are starting to pop. Pop. [00:02:31] Speaker A: Baby. Listen. [00:02:35] Speaker B: Yes, sir. Hey, man, I want to talk about eagles today. So I was watching this neat documentary on eagles and, and this is going to pertain to everything that we talk about with, with the fitness and, and Self development in general. So did you know at, at the age of 40 years old, an eagle will start to, the beak starts to curve a little bit too much. The claws, they start to dull so they can't hunt. The talons, they're a little doll, so they can't hunt. Their feathers start to become weighted so they can't soar through the air like they once could. And they can't, they can't hunt in on their prey as, as well as they once could. So what they do after around 40 years that they, they have to fly into the mountains. And what they do is they fly into the mountains, they, they separate themselves from all the noise and all the hustle and bustle of what's going on in normal life. And they go up there and they sm. They put themselves through intentional pain and intentional discomfort. They smash their beak. Once they smash their beak, they let that beak grow in a brand new beak. A sharp beat, a bright yellow that you see on the cartoon boys. And it grows in sharp and it grows in just nice and perfect. And what that does next is it takes its talons and it's plucks its talons again, pain and discomfort. Plucks the talons. Once the talons grow back in, it pells out all the feathers. And this is, this is a process that takes about 150 days. And the reason that I wanted to talk about this is because how many people that are listening to this on Monday or whenever they listen to this, how many people are ready to endure something for 150 days with no deviation, no, no, no cutting corners, no bend, no break. How many people are willing to do that for 150 days? [00:04:14] Speaker A: That, man, listen, that is tough, big dog. That is, that is tough. Intentional pain, intentional separation, intentional like making yourself uncomfortable and then sticking with it because you can't start the process and, and jump out too early because if you do, I mean, it's, it's detrimental. Like, you know, if the beak ain't growing back fully, if the talons aren't all the way back, if the feathers aren't, you know, pulling properly, it's bro, that's deep man, that you can apply it to so many things. So keep going. [00:04:46] Speaker B: That's, that's a wrap, man. Like you're saying, okay, so say, you say the eagle smashes out the beak, okay? That's the most painful part of the process for us in the fitness industry. The most painful part of the process is starting day one is the most difficult. You have some excitement because you can be reborn. But that first day is the most, the most difficult day of the process. So you smash out the beak. So say you rushes the process, right? You, you rush the process. The beak isn't fully grown back. You start to pull the talons out. Well, you fall short there. And then when you only pull two out of the 10 talons out, what happens then? Then you can't pluck the feathers, you can't be light. Then you go back out into the world and that's how you die. So many of us are dying quick, not, not in real terms. We're dying out quick in self development because we're not embracing the entire 150 days. This is what I've been encouraging big time for the last couple of weeks, man, is try the 150 days. No deviation, no cheating, no cutting corners for 150 days. See if you can say stay true to a plan for 150 days, then come talk to me. You want to see massive breakthrough. You want to see yourself be reborn? You want to see a brand new version of you try 150 days of no bend, no break, no, no, no shortcuts, no taking less when you should have taken a right. Trust the process. Like really trust the process for 150 days. Beyond that, come talk to me and tell me you're not reborn. Come talk to me and tell you. Tell me you haven't taken a massive leap with your life. 150 days. Don't cheat. [00:06:19] Speaker A: Hey, listen, that's dedication, bro. That's dedication for that long. What is that, like 21 weeks? Like that? Something like that? You know I don't math. My math. [00:06:30] Speaker B: Long time. We went into phys ed for a reason. D. You're right. You're right. [00:06:37] Speaker A: Okay. Actually, I looked it up. 21 weeks. Yeah, that's. I looked it up 21 weeks. So that, and here, here's something. I mean I, I know most of you guys listening may not be aspiring to, to step on stage, be a bodybuilder, but that's actually Coach Eric's favorite length of prep is 21 to 20 weeks. [00:07:00] Speaker B: My, my, my. [00:07:01] Speaker A: Very interesting. The young boy might be smart. He might know something. [00:07:06] Speaker B: You know, if you're training for a marathon, I, I recommend 20 weeks. My, my. When you do crazy things that like literally give you new life, it's gonna take you around that 20, 20 week mark. And you gotta, I mean when you made the commitment to get on stage, Dwayne, you were really excited for the first week. But that Excitement wears off. But you're up there in the mountains. You're up there in the mountains by yourself. Smashing. It's cold. Let's go. It's cold. [00:07:34] Speaker A: You're hungry in the mountains, brother. You're lonely in the mountains, brother. That's, that's speaking to me, man, like for real. That, that is. It's a tough process. You're lonely, you're cold, you're hungry. But you gotta go, you gotta go through that in order to, to make it to that point, man, you have to be willing to go through that discomfort, you know, And I even remember Gary Vee talking about, you know, you have to fall in love with the process. And we said too, you have to fall in love with the part that nobody sees, nobody enjoys. Nobody gives you accolade. No. Nobody gives you accolades. And for the small, the process part. [00:08:13] Speaker B: And they don't even know you're there. [00:08:15] Speaker A: Oh, no, they don't know. They think you fine, you inside your diet, your beak is smashed, ripped out. You walking around. [00:08:26] Speaker B: When you have the feeling or the emotion that you're dying, that's when you start to live. That's when you start to live, man. When that, when that discomfort is all at an all time high, man. So when I do a half marathon, so it was about 10 days ago, now that we're. Oh, it was about eight. Eight days ago. Eight days ago to be exact. I did the Cincinnati Flying Pig Marathon, right? Mile one, man. I'm feeling life, I'm flying high, shining bright. But when I get to mile 12, that's, that's the, the worst pain that you experience right now. You're pushing the limit. You're trying to, you're trying to convince yourself to keep going. The further you go, the harder it gets. But the further you go, the stronger you get, man. We've said that a million times. When you get that close to the finish line, real, real close to dialing in on what you desire, that's when most people quit. You're quitting one one away. You're quitting one day, one week, one month. You're quitting, you're surrendering. Just shy of that massive breakthrough. How dare us? [00:09:23] Speaker A: Yeah, man. Yeah. Yeah. It's crazy, man, because like, in my mind, and probably same for you, like, you can't imagine make going that far and just giving up. Like, because. Even because. And here, here's the, here's the thing. Part of the reason why people give up is because they think the outcome ain't gonna be what they thought it was going to be. They're like, oh, I'm not. I'm not where I supposed to be. I'm not to this point that I envision. And, oh, I'mma quit. I can't. I can't imagine that, bro. Like, for me, it's like I'm. If I, If I locked in this long, you're gonna get what I have, and that's, that's what it's going to be, you know, and, And I think too many times we, we fall victim to what other people think. You know, we. We fall victim into, like, you know, that somebody gonna ask you what your time was and, you know, like, you know, I just. Or they're gonna ask you, how'd you place, you know, where'd you. Where'd you. How you on the lineup? You know, and. And I think just the, the thought of that bothers people a lot, man. And, and, you know, you have to. You have to really change your mindset, you know, because that eagle, I mean, when he, when he's up there by himself and he's going through that, I'm sure some eagles might fly by like, well, look at George. Hey, hashtag George the eagle. But look, Tim will hit me up in the. [00:10:49] Speaker B: Where's the eagle? [00:10:51] Speaker A: But no, but. So that during that time, he don't, he don't look majestic. He don't look. He don't look like the, The. The national bird that we see soaring and picking up stuff and you know, and the beautiful pictures and painting. He don't look like that in the process, man. And that. And I think we have to understand that there. We call it the ugly phase. You know, I'm gonna relate to something else. I'm gonna pass it back to you. But when I was growing my hair, they. You have, you grow your hair. There's a part where they call it the ugly face, where your locks there, they're not locked just yet. They're not. They're too long to cut, they're too short to lock. You know, it's kind of an in between phase, man, and you just have to stick out the ugly phase and just wear a bunch of hats until, you know, hair start growing. But, you know, a lot of times in this process, people get to that ugly phase, man, and they, they give up because they care too much about what other people think. [00:11:43] Speaker B: Yeah, vulnerability. I think that's one of the secrets in life is vulnerability. So. So I'm gonna tell a funny story, man. I'm. I'm about 100. I'm 100, 110 Swedish. So I, I, I, I can't grow facial hair and people will pick on me. You know, hey, you, you got a baby face. I got it. I, I know. All right, I get it. I, I went to the, I went to the a tavern here locally one, one time, this is about four years ago, and she said, hey, can I get your ideas? Absolutely. Here you go. And she goes, does that say 87 or 97? I said, thank you, I'll take that back. But the reason, the reason that I talk about that is the same concept, man. I can't, I can't grow the, the facial hair. But when we were in high school, everybody would try to grow facial hair and you would always go through the, the rough patches and you go through the ugly phase before you get there. But to, to, what I was speaking to was the vulnerability. Honesty, transparency and vulnerability I think are key elements in the fitness process. Because when you can put your, man, going to the gym for the first time in, in five or 10 years, that is the most vulnerable state you can almost put yourself in in any, any area of life. Because there's, that's intimidating. When you walk into the gym and there's, there's a 300 pound fellow over there, there's biceps are the size of your thighs or, or that, that woman over there is wearing, you know, a tank top and shorty shorts and you're like, man, I want to look like her and I want to look like him and I want, I want to be like them. And you walk in and you're a little too fluffy or, you know, you're a little overweight, or maybe you're just starting your running journey. You see an iron man on a treadmill or you, you see someone training for a physique show, you walk in, holy cow. And you turn right around and go back out. Why is that? Because we're always trying to measure up to somebody else, man. You got to stay in your lane. Get, get vulnerable. Be honest with yourself. I'm not where I want to be. I'm going to put myself in that gym. I'm going to feel uncomfortable and I'm going to get it done. No matter what, I'm going to get it done. [00:13:42] Speaker A: Absolutely. One of my favorite reels, this lady was like, you know, she's talking about the gym being intimidating. She's like, you know, I just, I went in, I was like, I'm just gonna go in. And I went in and I saw the guys, you know, they were so nice. She's like, they had the shirts on and, you know, then they were patting each other on the back. They were, you know, helping with the weights. [00:14:00] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:14:00] Speaker A: Like, then they took off what they call their pump covers and they were copp. Complimenting each other and ask me if I wanted some drink, something to drink. See, it's a lot of time and that's most gyms. Like, once you get in there, you realize it's not that place. Like the person that you're probably envying, envious of. They are, they're. They're not securing themselves. They're looking at somebody else, you know, they're looking, they're looking at somebody else, a couple of Stairmasters down, you know, wishing that they were them. And, and is not that that kind of a place, man. I mean, there are certain, you know, gyms, you know, the Meat Head style, but even there, they're still polite. Like, you know, people aren't like, you know, shunning you or, you know, saying you don't belong. You know, it's ironic. The reverse is at Planet Fitness, you know, no shade to Planet Fitness if y' all want to be a sponsor, but it's the reverse there. Like, they, they shame people that, that do look good. You know, I seen people recently talking about how they're banned from Planet Fitness because, you know, they either wore a string teak top or brought in a gallon jug and, you know, all of those, those things and it's like the reverse aspect of it, which is just, just ironic. But yeah, for those, for if you're listening and you're intimidated by the gym, I, I encourage you just go in, man. People are super helpful. It, I mean, if you come in my gym, you know, I' ma speak, I got my headphones on, I look mean. If we catch eye contact, I'm a smile at you, but, you know, other time I'm gonna look mean. But don't disregard that. Everybody the same time for the same thing. They want to get better, you know. [00:15:33] Speaker B: And, and if the intimidation factor is too big, most people that are listening to this podcast are our E2M demographic. You know, if you're somebody that's not in E2M and you have no idea what E2M is, it's, it's, it's a, it's an at home program, folks. So if you are too intimidated, work up to that point. Like it's, it's not going to just happen overnight where you're like, okay, I'm going into the gym and I'M gonna feel really good about myself. I' that does. Sometimes that. That's too much. Okay, so. So use E2M. Use the skills, the tools, and the resources that we provide, and then get the confidence, because once you start putting in the reps, you start gaining that confidence. Boy. And then you can go into that gym and you feel. Feel pretty good about yourself. But one of the things that you said struck. Struck an idea or a thought in my mind was CT Fletcher, man. So I'm a big fan of ct. Back in his old days, man, he had some colorful language, so if you're not into that, maybe don't. But ct, man, he was an aggressive guy, a very scary individual, but one of the most supportive people. Like, when he's lifting with somebody, he gets the best out of them. And why I brought that up is because gyms, although, are very intimidating, dude. I'm a. I'm. I'm in very physical peak, peak shape in my life, where I'm at 37 years old. I'm. I'm in good shape. When I go into the gym, I'm intimidated, all right? It's uncomfortable. But guys like ct, the most intimidating guys in the gym, are probably the least. The. The most gentle guys or gals in the gym. [00:17:08] Speaker A: However, when you see the hood up, the headphones on. [00:17:12] Speaker B: You see the hood up and the headphones on, just keep walking. [00:17:18] Speaker A: No, exactly. No, that's so true. That's so true. That's just gym etiquette. That. That's. Yes, that's gym etiquette. You see somebod know good on headphones, you know, kind of zoned out. Yeah, leave them alone. They're dealing with something right now. [00:17:34] Speaker B: They're in the zone or they're in a mood, Right? [00:17:36] Speaker A: One of the two. One of the two. But I want to go back what you said about, you know, just building up to, you know, I. I've. I mean, just personally never been intimidated because kind of grew up in the gym, sports, whatever. But When I joined E2M, you know, I wasn't ready for the gym. Like, I had to, you know, I had to lose a lot of weight. I had to gain some strength. And I remember, like, I didn't step foot in the gym until, like, my fourth or fifth round because I. I remember clear as day, man. This is when we were smaller, and I DM Jeff. I was like, man, I'm ready to. I think I'm ready to start adding some muscle. I lost the weight, and he was like, hey, you know, we Got those gym workouts, get them joints up. So I, I got the gym workout and I went and I started going to the gym and you know, it took me building up the confidence. It took me to lose that weight to confidence to start going to the gym. I didn't go right away, you know, I, I did cardio. My cardio was Zumba and I was doing the circuits and the extra credits and all of that, man, until I built up, you know, the, the confidence and, and even the strength to actually start doing gym workouts. So that may be you, you may be in a place where you got, you need to, you know, do some at home workouts, get more familiar with weights and body parts and all of that, all those things before you actually step foot in the gym. And when you do, you'll have more confidence. And you know, I remember after, you know, going to the gym a while and, and, and you know, you met. There's so there's two different crowds. We, you got some gym education today. So there's the morning crowd. The morning crowd is, is fairly mild. It's, you know, they're the early folks, mostly business folks and you know, people that got to get stuff done. You're not going to find too many like hardcore bodybuilders in the morning crowd. It's kind of a mild crowd, but there's the 5pm and after crowd. That crowd is the bodybuilders. That's the, that's the strong men. That's, that's, that crowd's a little bit more. I remember the first time I went to, to my current gym on a five, you know, after five and I was like, oh, okay. [00:19:36] Speaker B: Oh, all right, all right. [00:19:38] Speaker A: Let me do a couple of extra push ups today. But, but the cool thing was I didn't feel out of place. Like I felt like I, you know, and this was just doing E2M stuff. Like this wasn't bodybuilding prep or anything, it's just E2 and stuff. I feel like I, I look good and I held my own. It was the confidence that I built. But you know, it was just, it was just amazing to see those two different kinds of people that show up at the gym and, and, and you know, and to those that are watching that are listening, you can be that, you can be that confident, you can be that person. If you would have told me, you know, four or five years ago that that would be me, I, I wouldn't believe you. You know, I would go to the gym, you know, I might get on the elliptical A few minutes and leave and have a pizza. But you know, now, you know, it's different. But yeah, they used to serve it at Planet Fitness, man. [00:20:27] Speaker B: Oh, that was before my time. I. What? I, I had heard rumblings of pizza days and donut days. I started during COVID and they, they, they didn't have it. I haven't been back since. So I don't know if they still do, if they are doing it now or not. [00:20:42] Speaker A: I don't know if they're still doing it, but back when they first came around when I was in South Carolina, they had pizza on Fridays. Free piece of pizza. You work out, you're in, just slice and you walk out of that joint. Hey, you know, then they always kept Tootsie Rose at the door and. [00:20:57] Speaker B: Yeah, yeah. One thing I was going to say is the only way to defeat discomfort is, is get into discomfort. And the reason that I say that is because, you know, you talk about your five o' clock, you know, you, you go in and you see these individuals and it is a different crowd. But because you weren't uncomfortable because you already faced your discomfort, like you already, you already broke free, you already broke through rather in your morning session. And, and that's, that's the same thing to be applied with fitness. Like if you're really uncomfortable or if you're really afraid of running, the best way to overcome that fear is run. If you're afraid of cold water, the best way to overcome that fear, that fear is getting cold water and so on and so forth. But to back up even furthermore, one of the things that my kids used to always come to me when I was in, when I was teaching school, shout out to my Wildcats, man, I love my Wildcats. But when, when I was teaching school, I would always have kids come up to me and hey, Mr. Barmore, can you make me a weight training plan? I'm like, can you do five sets of 10 push ups? And they're like, I can do like three. I'm like, let's start there, there. And I, I was preaching E2M style workouts before E2M was even a thing. Back in 2013, I created a plan for kids that were 14 and above. Right? One, one thing on there was do five sets of 10 push ups. Start there. Like, that's really hard for somebody. That's, that's improbable for some people. But just because it's improbable doesn't mean it's impossible. Then once you break through that improbable, then all Of a sudden, you start to build that confidence that, okay, now it's time for weight training. So just to speak to those people that are intimidated or are afraid of the. The first thing that you got to do is embrace those fears. My thing is, if you fear it, chase it. And that's the same idea of all of this conversation today. Get yourself in those uncomfortable situations and circumstance. Once you can get in there the next day, hey, I, I know that guy looks familiar. Okay. I'm feeling in place. And then furthermore, you stay there for 5, 10, 20 days, it's only going to get easier and easier. It'll never get easier. It'll just get more comfortable until you get intentional with more discomfort. [00:23:04] Speaker A: No, absolutely. Absolutely, man. What they say, you, it don't get easier, you just get stronger. You know, you get stronger, you know, and it might feel easy, but it's because you're. You're getting better, you're getting stronger, man. So good stuff. All right, man. So I know we. I see that metal around your neck, so I want to turn, turn the channel a little bit, talk about that. [00:23:31] Speaker B: I was getting comfortable with the metal around the neck. I forgot it was there. Hey, man. So this is dropping on May. Let's see. 9, 10, 11, 12. May 12th. Okay, May 12th. We're halfway through them, almost halfway through the month of May, and we're doing something called the 24 for 24 challenge. Guys, this is a. This is. [00:23:50] Speaker A: So that would be today. So this is dropping when this is. Is played. [00:23:53] Speaker B: Yes, today. And yeah, no, this has already dropped. So May 1st, it dropped major. Okay, first it dropped live, but I think this podcast dropped May 12th. [00:24:01] Speaker A: Yes. [00:24:01] Speaker B: Is that correct? Yeah. So when you're watching this, it's May 12th. We're almost halfway through the month of May. We're doing the 24 for 24 challenge. What is the 24 for 24 challenge? If you are an extremist like your Uncle Bradley, if you're. You're. You're an enthusiast for these extremes, take on the base challenge. What is the base challenge? It's one mile per hour for 24 straight hours. So you're going to do 24 miles in 24 hours? No, back to back miles. So at the top of every hour is one mile. So when you start, say you start at seven in the morning, you do a mile at seven in the morning, you can rest until eight in the morning. Eight in the morning, you do another mile, you rest until nine in the morning. Nine in the morning, you do another mile. And so on and so forth. Yes, you go through the night and that is where the mental component comes into play. Now, there are some, there are some modifications, and with the modifications, there are no restrictions. There's two modifications. One, individually, solely, you get 24 miles in, in 24 hours. You can do it however you want. If you want to walk 24 miles continuously, great. There are no restrictions. Or you could get a partner or a team to complete those 24 miles. Now, what I've been encouraging people, Dwayne, is if I'm really uncomfortable with doing six miles, but I think I can do six miles, get four other, get three other people on your team, four people total to get right around that six mile range with you don't, don't get 23 other people and just do one mile in that day. I want you to get outside your comfort zone. You want to grow, you want to get stronger. I want you to get outside that comfort zone.
